Hesed Projects:
We Need Your
Help
A message from Hesed
Volunteers: Louise Singer
and Lois Michaels
We all have busy lives. We have commitments
to our children and spouse, and to
our jobs. We are also part of a larger community
that has nurtured us, and it is
important to give back to this community,
and nurture others.
As members of the Hesed Committee, we
have found tremendous personal satisfaction
as well as affirmation of our Jewish values,
from the projects in which we have been
involved. We now call upon other members
of Beth Tikvah to join us in supporting
these vital projects
1. The Kosher Food Drive
The need: To provide food to the hungry in
the Jewish community.
The investment: A few hours, two – three
times a year
The payback: Tremendous satisfaction in
meeting a vital and growing need
2. Carefree Lodge – Visiting elderly
monthly Friday afternoons
The need: Providing spiritual support to the
elderly
The investment: A few hours once a month
The payback: Satisfaction in connecting our
Jewish elders with their traditions;
Satisfaction in letting them know they are
not forgotten
3. Rides to Beth Tikvah
The need: Rides to shul for Shabbat and
sometimes other occasions
The investment: A few extra minutes once a
week
The payback: The joy of enabling someone
to go to shul who might otherwise be housebound
due to temporary or permanent disability,
or frailty
4. Telecare
The need: Providing telephone support to
the newly bereaved
The investment: Your time and caring
The payback: The good feeling of reaching
out and supporting someone at their
time of loss (Training provided)
5. Greeters
The need: Regulars appreciate a warm welcome
as well as new visitors to our shul who
are often unsure as to where to go and what
to do
The investment: A once or twice a year commitment
of one hour
The payback: The good feeling of welcoming
and assisting
These are a few examples of Hesed’s work.
Our current members of Hesed have given
many hours and years to these projects, and
welcome with open arms new people to join
them in these endeavours. The projects are
established, but we need new members in
order to be able to continue them. Please
call Ruth Frankel (905)709-1420 if you
are able to find a small bit of time to help us
help others.
We Want to Know Your
Name
Wouldn’t it be nice when in shul to:
Know the name of the person beside, in
front or behind you—or even across the
aisle? Hesed is inviting you to join us in
WE WANT TO KNOW YOUR NAME
DAY.
This will be the FIRST Shabbat of the
month—any month!
Please pick up a name tag at the coatroom
or wear one of your own!
We’d love to know who you really are!
