Millstone is the new Assistant Director? Did you
know that scholarships to Camp Ramah are
available for BT members? We are actively looking
to put BT families on the Ramah roster for this

Dinner & Dilemmas: Saturday, January 19 th
beginning with Havdalah at 6:30pm: Parenting
Your Teen Behind the Screen: Parents, tweens &
teens are invited to join us in a mediated discussion
with Larry Borins, social worker and
psychotherapist, and Rabbi Grover offering the
Jewish perspective as we investigate issues
including video games – how much is too much,
cyber bullying, the role of the internet in today’s
society, how has privacy changed and more. Enjoy
a Chinese food feast for the entire family. Open to
the Community. Concurrent movie program for
younger children will be available upon request.
Cost: Members $30/family (max. 5
people/family), Non‐members $50/family (max. 5

Tikvah Tots Winter 2013: Now with two groups
running simultaneously: one for the kids ages 1‐3
and another for kids ages 4‐6 and their
parents/grandparents. Sing Hebrew songs with
Tibi, big toys, crafts and more. 6 session series on
Sunday morning January 6 th – February 10 th from
9:30am – 11:00am in the Gym, Assembly Hall and
Youth Room. Play and crafts led by Karmela Klasner
and Monica Nemani. Ages 4‐6 also enjoy sports and
games with Tibi. A light brunch will be served at the
conclusion of each session. Members: $60/series,
$15/session, Non‐Members $70/series and
$17/session. Contact Helen in the synagogue

Alliance of Synagogues Youth (CASY). February 9 th
Motzei Shabbat from 6:45pm – 11:45 pm.
BTY (Grades 9‐12): Motzei Shabbat February 2 nd
from 6:45pm – 11:45pm. Travel in style by limo party
bus, lots of food and fun. Trip leaves and returns to
Adath Israel, 37 Southbourne Avenue, Toronto. Cost:
$25/person. Space is limited! Register by January
18 th and be entered into a draw to win two movie

Havdalah & Ice: Join us on Motzei Shabbat
February 9 th at 7:30pm at Canlan Ice Sports: York
University (989 Murray Ross Parkway). The evening
begins with a special Havdalah service on the ice
followed by 1 hour of private ice time, music, hockey,
snacks and fun for the entire family. Free parking is
available. Skate rental is not available. Helmets and
hockey equipment are welcome. Cost: Members
$7/person, Non‐Members $11/person. Contact Sigal
by February 4 th to reserve.

Shabbat morning and share in the celebration of
services through women’s voices. The women of
Beth Tikvah are coming forward with knowledge bred
from study, and with a commitment to participate
fully. This will be the first Shabbat at Beth Tikvah
during which women will carry out every role that is
permissible in the egalitarian Torah service. Beth
Tikvah Women is sponsoring a Kiddush following
services, and we invite everyone to attend. Come and
be included as we mark this significant service, on this
significant day.
HESED – The next meeting is this Monday, January
14 th at 11:30am. New members are always welcome.
We are still collecting eye glasses and used clothing
that can be reused. Thanks for your assistance.

RABBI GROVER’S TORAH ON TOUR
The Boring Part of the Bible
The Torah dedicates 34 verses to the creation of the world and nearly 600 detailing the construction of the
tabernacle by the Israelites in the wilderness. Should we be surprised?
Not according to Rabbi Jonathan Sacks. He reminds us that it is no great feat for an omnipotent,
omniscient, and infinite God to create a home for human beings. But for the finite and fallible human being to
create a home for the infinite God, that there is the great challenge humanity has yet to meet.
