LEARN TORAH READING SKILLS<br />

Those with the ability to read Hebrew are invited to come<br />

learn how to read from the Torah. The class, taught by Rabbi<br />

Markose, will take place one hour before Shabbat Minha on<br />

the following dates: <strong>March</strong> 3 (Introduction), <strong>March</strong> 10, 24, 31;<br />

April 21, 28; May 5, 12, 19; June 2,9,16,30. Regular attendance<br />

is crucial to yield success.<br />

LEARN HOW TO READ HEBREW<br />

A Beginners’ Hebrew Reading class taught by Irv Kirshenblat is<br />

being offered on Shabbat afternoons, one hour before<br />

Shabbat Minha. This course will begin <strong>March</strong> 3, <strong>2012</strong> and run<br />

GUEST HAZZAN AT BETH TIKVAH<br />

MARCH 16-17, <strong>2012</strong><br />

Join us for a special Shabbat Hazzanut when we welcome<br />

Hazzan David Edwards from Beth Emeth Bais Yehuda<br />

Synagogue as part of a Cantorial exchange program.<br />

Cantor Edwards will lead the Friday night service<br />

followed by a catered Oneg Shabbat dinner. On Shabbat<br />

morning he will chant the blessing of the New Month<br />

and lead the Mussaf Service. The congregation will then<br />

be invited to a special Kiddush. This promises to be the<br />

first of a series of Shabbatot promoting hazzanut. Cantor<br />

Kovari will be the guest at Beth Emeth Bais Yehuda<br />

RABBI GROVER’S TORAH ON TOUR<br />

LIGHTING AND LEARNING<br />

Among the prescriptions related to the Menorah, which stood in the Holy Temple, was the injunction that the lights of the<br />

Menorah stay kindled throughout the night. The sages comment that even though the summer nights were longer than the winter<br />

nights, the same amount of oil was always used. But, why?<br />

According to most opinions, this special rule was not just about making simple the daily Temple routine. Rabbi Moshe Feinstein,<br />

of blessed memory, taught that each element of the Menorah's rules was related to proper educational practice.<br />

It is a common error to devote more time to weaker students and less time to stronger ones. We make the assumption that our time<br />

and effort is best utilized giving grease to the "squeaky wheel." The lighting was an every day reminder that all of us need good<br />

guidance and good teachers in our lives, no matter what we think we already know and already understand. Not only that, but you<br />

might even be surprised by who you can learn from!<br />
