Position Concept:
The Detective – Identity Theft Strike Force is a sworn, certified member who possesses all the requisite knowledge, skills
and physical abilities incumbent upon the position of an entry level deputy sheriff. The member performs documentation,
operations and investigative duties specific to the position.
The most important and essential job function of the position is attitude which includes the following: interacting
positively and cooperating with co-workers, responding politely to customers, working as a team member, functioning
under intense time pressure and responding in a positive manner to supervision.
The Detective - Identity Theft Strike Force may perform other related duties and tasks, as required and shall have the
physical, mental and emotional abilities to perform the essential job duties of the position.
Essential Functions:
Provide investigative support
Retrieve and disseminate information
Provide investigative assistance to other
agencies/divisions
Assist SAO and county attorneys in case
preparation
Connect suspect to evidence and/or crime
scene/criminal activity
Conduct overt/covert surveillance of
suspects
Maintain confidential informant files
Monitor suspect telecommunications
/electronic mail
Conduct proactive investigations
Establish motive
Develop suspect list
Manage investigative funds
Receive training
Analyze computer drives/discs/diskettes for
evidentiary/intelligence information
Clip newspaper articles
Run FCIC/NCIC and warrant checks
Provide assistance to the public/
members/other county personnel
Analyze interview/interrogation statements
Primary Functions:
A deputy sheriff in this position is required to meet the primary duties of the pursuit, apprehension and arrest
of law violators or suspected law violators and maintain same apprehension of suspects, inmates/prisoners or
trustees during transportation.
Education, Professional Certification or License:
High School or GED
Valid Florida driver's license
State of Florida, Basic Recruit, Certificate of Compliance
Professional Experience:
Two (2) years non-probationary experience as a Polk County deputy sheriff preferred
Interview/interrogation training preferred

Blood and Viral Pathogen Risk: [ ] Minimal Risk [X] Foreseeable Risk
Environmental Conditions:
Works primarily in an office setting with normal stress levels
May be called upon to perform the duties of a deputy sheriff
