Position Concept:
The Deputy Sheriff – Crime Suppression Team is a sworn, certified member who possesses all the requisite knowledge,
skills and physical abilities incumbent upon the position of an entry level deputy sheriff. In addition, the Deputy Sheriff
performs investigative, operations, documentation and court-related duties and tasks specific to the position.
The most important and essential job function of the position is attitude which includes the following: interacting
positively and cooperating with co-workers, responding politely to customers, working as a team member, functioning
under intense time pressure and responding in a positive manner to supervision.
The Deputy Sheriff – Crime Suppression Team may perform other related duties and tasks, as required and shall have the
physical, mental and emotional abilities to perform the essential job duties of the position.
Essential Functions:
Secure and process crime scene
Utilize electronic listening devices
Conduct surveillance
Investigate various crimes
Obtain arrest warrants
Manage informants
Obtain search warrant
Manage investigative funds
Perform field training functions
Attend neighborhood watch meetings
Prepare and update *BOLO’s
Prepare lab letter
Prepare proficiency reports
Conduct forfeiture proceeding
Prepare case for prosecution
Maintain or pick up evidence for court
Locate witnesses for court
Primary Functions:
A deputy sheriff in this position is required to meet the primary duties of the pursuit, apprehension and arrest
of law violators or suspected law violators and maintain same apprehension of suspects, inmates/prisoners or
trustees during transportation.
Education, Professional Certification or License:
High School or GED
Valid Florida driver's license
State of Florida, Basic Recruit, Certificate of Compliance
Prefer specialized training in interviews/interrogations and/or investigations
Professional Experience:
Completion of probationary period with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office as a deputy sheriff

Environmental Conditions:
Physical acts requiring strength and endurance may be required
