RABBI GROVER’S TORAH ON TOUR
ESTHER’S ELEVATION
The Story of Purim, as told in the Megillah of Esther, is replete with deceivingly insignificant events that ultimately make
possible the redemption of the Jews of Shushan.
One of those events occurs when Esther tells the king about an assassination plot involving two of his chamberlains. Instead of
simply relaying the information, or pretending that she revealed it, Esther gives credit to her cousin Mordechai for discovering the
plot. Her concern to give credit where it was due lands Mordechai a good name in the king's diary.
Pirkei Avot teaches that all who listen to the Megillah should pay heed to its special lesson: that we were redeemed because one
person spoke something in the name of another person.
By our power to elevate another individual, we elevate the whole world.
