On Monday, 20 th April, 2009 Queensland Movie Makers - Northside and Southside Branches, were
treated to a practical lecture and demonstration on the Art of Make-up for Film and Television by
Kelly Dower at the Southside Club room.
Kelly is a graduate from the Peter Frampton Institute on Queensland's Gold Coast and not only showed
how Make-up is important to the success of movies but also told anecdotes on films she's been associated
with and methods used by the big studios and known actors.
Amanda was the model for the night and was transformed from an ordinary QMM Member to a girl
who was frightened on her way back to her car and who started running in a panic. Perspiration
formed on her brow. She fell and bruised the side of her face and, finally, had a large wound appear on
the other side of her face. It was all very realistic!
Kelly made mention of the fact that it was necessary to always follow the script as the state of a bruise
on an actor needed to change in just the right way for continuity in the movie.
Members had many questions for Kelly and she answered them all in a most professional manner
and gave us, not only an informative evening, but a very entertaining one as well.
TEACHER’S TALES
Teacher: “Clyde, your composition on ‘My Dog’ is exactly the same as your brothers. Did you copy this?”
Clyde; “No sir. It’s the same dog.”
Teacher: “Harold, what do you call a person who keeps talking when people are no longer interested?”
Harold: “A teacher.”
Teach: “Millie give me a sentence starting with ‘I’.”
Millie: “I is …”
Teacher: “No, Millie...always say, ‘I am’.”
Millie: “Alright… ‘I am the ninth letter of the alphabet’.”
