Here, about one year ago now, we were all congratulating ourselves on the success of the Convention at
Bridport - where has that year gone and what have we done video-wise, since then? Not much and disappointingly
little, I’m sorry to say.
But I can report that Tas Movie Makers are developing some plans and are looking at scripts so that we
will have some videos for the Queensland Convention in 2010.
One of the activities that some club members were involved with has been concluded very successfully –
the filming of Clive Brook’s demo of his gothic gore script “A Psychotic Bit of Gore”. His friend, Ken
Prescott with Broadway credits as a dancer, choreographer, singer and actor, directed local and mainland
talent to successfully complete twenty mins of song and dance and action. The “master” has gone to Ken
in LA and we can now only wait for someone, somewhere, perhaps to provide some financial backing and
take things to the next stage. Oh, how we would love to see, and be involved in, some real production taking
place in Hobart again!
A shot from the all singing, all dancing, all gore demo
Our current Club activity, although probably done before, is the production of a TMM “ This is Tasmania”,
DVD. At this stage it will be simply a collection of some of the existing footage taken by members
over the years. The instigator and now coordinator of the project, Barrie Balfe, sees it as a promo for the
Club and as a wonderful “exchange” item with other clubs here and overseas. Perhaps there will even be a
place for it “on the net”. It is not seen as a commercial venture at this stage.
We have been lucky to find a prospective new member with loads of experience in audio production and he
has offered to run a session on “producing good audio for video”. We have him lined up for the very next
meeting!
So as winter approaches and this reporter starts to plan the “escape to the Sunshine Coast” things in Hobart
are really quite upbeat.
