CeBIT EXPO 2009
REPORT By Joe Leon
CeBIT EXPO 2009 Report …
The show was interesting as it took us 4 hours to go
through hall 5, 5 minutes through Hall 4 and about an
hour through Hall 3. Unfortunately practically nothing for
the Video Maker. As you can see by the photos we still
managed to have fun.
As you can see that’s a huge price difference. Most
common use for SSD is in Laptop computers which can
range in capacity from 32 GB to 128 GB. Toshiba recently
announced a 512 GB SSD for one of its Laptop
computers, price unknown.
Take Me to your Leader …
Oops, wrong turn ?
SSD (Solid State Drives) …
Follow Me …
Mike O’Leary & Creevey
Specifications according to the brochure for the Corsair
P256 SSD: Up to 20x average Read/Write speeds over
HDD. Up to 220 MB/s Sequential Read. Up to 200 MB/
s Sequential Write. Corsair SSD use specially selected
ICs to enable a Life Expectancy over 100 Years and Impact
Resistance up to 1500 Gs (Gravities). That’s quite
impressive.
SSD have no moving parts, require less power to operate
and for all intents and purposes looks similar to a
2.5” SATA Laptop HDD.
While at CeBIT I was able to talk to one of the experts
there and what I read on the Net, SSD at present suffer
from Limited Write Cycles, approximately 10,000
(about 10 years under normal use). It’s hard to know
who to believe. The best idea is to find out the warranty
period.
SSD are similar to other SSDevices like USB Memory
Sticks, Digital Still and Camcorder Flash Cards, SRAM,
DRAM, etc which at present are affordable. SDD will be
an alternative or replacement for conventional HDD.
They are available now and are very expensive at present.
256 GB SSD: US $ 580.00
256 GB 2.5” HDD: US $50.00
Expect like any new product for SSD to improve in reliability,
increase in capacity (1 TB later this year) and
come down in price due to advances in technology and
market demand.
On the plus side. The better SSD can boot an operating
System in seconds instead of minutes and run most applications
faster than HDD.
11th September
A DATE TO REMEMBER By Jim Dunn AFAMM SSFAMM DSFSMM
The date of the attack on the World Trade Centre Twin Towers in New York was September 11th.
9th month 11th Day, so 9+1+1 = 11.
September 11th is the 254th day of the year, 2+5+4 = 11.
After September 11th there are 111 days left to the end of the year.
119 is the Area Code to Iraq/Iran. 1+1+9 = 11.
Twin Towers - Standing side by side looks like the number 11.
The first plane to hit the towers was Flight 11.
But.....There’s more.......
State of New York was the 11th State added to the Union.
New York City - 11 letters.
Afghanistan - 11 letters.
The Pentagon - 11 letters.
Ramzi Yousef - 11 letters. (Convicted of orchestrating the attack on the WTC in 1993)
Flight 11, 92 on board 9+2 =11.
Flight 77, 65 on board, 6+5 = 11.
Crazy huh??
My daughter, Rosanne and her husband, Frank did not know until after they became engaged that they both have their
Birthdays on the same date, September 11th.
