<strong>Shidler</strong> <strong>College</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Business</strong> completed its 29th Annual<br />

Asian Field Study themed “Experiencing the Diverse<br />

Asian <strong>Business</strong> Environment”. Seventeen EMBA, one<br />

MBA, and one BBA student were hosted by various businesses<br />

and agencies in Tokyo, Shanghai, Kuala Lumpur, and Ho Chi<br />

Minh City. Led by Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Jack Suyderhoud, the program<br />

consisted <strong>of</strong> country reports, individual reports on a subject<br />

<strong>of</strong> interest, pre-trip classes with guest lectures by country<br />

experts including Ray Burghardt, former US ambassador to<br />

Vietnam, numerous country specific readings, Harvard case<br />

studies, Economist Intelligence Unit country reports, and<br />

post-trip reflective sessions. While touring Ho Chi Minh City,<br />

the Asian Field Study students had many opportunities<br />

to network and interact with VEMBA’s current students<br />

and alumni, including a dinner networking event<br />

attended by over 50 UH Manoa and VEMBA students,<br />

and visiting the companies VEBMA alumni/students<br />

they worked at and sharing their experiences, such<br />

as Johnathan Moreno VEMBA-HCMC’ 13 (Sandhill<br />

Scientific), Nguyen Thi Huong Giang VEMBA-HCMC’ 09<br />

(VinaCapital), and LE Thanh Phong VEMBA-HCMC’ 13<br />

(BetterWork).<br />
