(<strong>15</strong>) (44)"Licensed Practical Nurse" means a<br />

nurse holding a valid current license as<br />

required by G.S. 90. Article 9A. North<br />

Carolina Statute.<br />

(16) ft§)"Medical Director" means a physician<br />

who directs the medical aspects <strong>of</strong><br />

the hospice's patient care program.<br />

(17) {+6)"Nurse Aide" means an individual<br />

who is qualified authorized to provide<br />

nursing care under the supervision <strong>of</strong> a<br />

licensed nurse, has completed a training<br />

and competency evaluation program or<br />

competency evaluation program and is<br />

listed on the Nurse Aide Registry ,<br />

North<br />

Carolina Board <strong>of</strong> Nursing as set forth in<br />

21 <strong>NC</strong>AC 36 .0400 at the Division <strong>of</strong><br />

Facility Services .<br />

(18) {47) "Occupational Therapist" means an<br />

individual who is registered as such with<br />

the American Occupational Therapy<br />

Association.<br />

(19) {+8)" Patient and Family Care Coordinator"<br />

means a registered nurse designated<br />

by the hospice to coordinate the provision<br />

<strong>of</strong> hospice services for each patient and<br />

family.<br />

(20) (+9)"Pharmacist" means an individual<br />

duly licensed to practice pharmacy in<br />

North Carolina.<br />

(21) {20)" Physical Therapist" means an individual<br />

holding a valid current license<br />

required by G.S. 90, Article<br />

(22) {24)"Physician" means an individual<br />

licensed to practice medicine in North<br />

Carolina.<br />

(23) {23)"Primary Caregiver" means the<br />

family member or other person who<br />

assumes the overall<br />

responsibility for the<br />

care <strong>of</strong> the patient in the home.<br />

(24) (24) "<strong>Register</strong>ed Nurse" means a nurse<br />

holding a valid current license as<br />

required by G.S. 90, Article 9A. North<br />

Carolina Statute.<br />

(25) {24)"Respite Care" means care provided<br />

to a patient for the purpose <strong>of</strong> temporary<br />

relief to family members or others caring<br />

for the patient at home.<br />

(26) (2-5)"Social Worker" means an individual<br />

holding a master's degree or a bachelor's<br />

degree in social work from a school<br />

accredited by the Council <strong>of</strong> Social Work<br />

Education with experience in a health<br />

related field and who is capable <strong>of</strong> providing<br />

for hospice patients' and families'<br />

psychosocial needs. An individual holding<br />

a bachelor's or an advanced degree in<br />

psychology, counseling or psychiatric<br />

nursing may also function in this capacity<br />

if the same criteria are met.<br />

(27) {36)"Speech Therapist" means an individual<br />

holding a valid current license as<br />

required by GJL 90^ Article 22. Neftb<br />

Carolina Statute.<br />

(28) {37)"Volunteer" means an individual,<br />

who has received appropriate orientation<br />

and training consistent with acceptable<br />

standards <strong>of</strong> hospice philosophy and<br />

practice.<br />

SECTION .0400 - PERSONNEL<br />

.0402 INSERVICE EDUCATION<br />

AND TRAINING<br />

(a) Written policies shall be established and<br />

implemented which include orientation, hospice<br />

caregiver training,<br />

volunteer training and inservice<br />

education for all hospice staff. Records on the<br />

content <strong>of</strong> volunteer training<br />

sessions and on the<br />

subject <strong>of</strong> inservice shall be maintained by the<br />

hospice; attendance records for both shall be kept.<br />

(b) Training for hospice staff providing direct<br />

patient and family services shall include, but not<br />

be limited to,<br />

the following:<br />

(1) hospice philosophy and concepts <strong>of</strong><br />

(2)<br />

(3)<br />

(4)<br />

(5)<br />

(6)<br />

cares<br />

physiological and psychological aspects<br />

<strong>of</strong> terminal illness^<br />

symptom managements<br />

family dynamics and copings<br />

communication and listenings<br />

emergency procedure.;<br />

(7) procedure for death occurring in the<br />

homes<br />

(8) grief and bereavement-^-afidj and<br />

(9) documentation and record keeping.<br />

(c) In addition to the training described in<br />

Paragraph (b) <strong>of</strong> this Rule, the following additional<br />

training shall be provided to hospice caregivers<br />

assigned to a hospice residential facility:<br />

(1) training specific to the types <strong>of</strong> medications<br />

being administered when assisting<br />

the patient with self administration <strong>of</strong><br />

medications<br />

and provision <strong>of</strong> personal<br />

care from a curriculum approved by the<br />
