PROPOSED RULES<br />

(b) If the credentials and application are approved, the applicant<br />

shall be so informed and is then given information regarding the<br />

examination National Marriage and Family Therapy<br />

Examination.<br />

(c) If the credentials or application are deemed unacceptable by<br />

the Board, the applicant shall be informed with an explanation <strong>of</strong><br />

the areas which are considered deficient. Applicants may<br />

remedy deficiencies within one year from the date <strong>of</strong> notification<br />

without having to reapply. After one year <strong>of</strong> application<br />

inactivity, the file shall be closed and a new application and fee<br />

is required.<br />

(d) If during the review process, questions arise from any source<br />

which may pertain to the applicant's qualifications for licensing,<br />

the Board may seek to resolve the questions by communication<br />

with the person who made the comments or any other person(s),<br />

or may refer the matter to counsel or to a member or employee<br />

<strong>of</strong> the Board for investigation.<br />

(e) If an application is denied, the grounds for denial shall be<br />

given to the applicants. applicant in writing. The applicant may<br />

request reconsideration <strong>of</strong> the application and present additional<br />

written material in support there<strong>of</strong> which shall be reviewed at<br />

the next scheduled Board meeting. The Board shall not be is not<br />

required to reconsider its decision to deny an application, nor<br />

shall it be is it required to review any materials submitted in<br />

support <strong>of</strong> a request for reconsideration.<br />

SECTION .0300 - EXAMINATION<br />

21 <strong>NC</strong>AC 31 .0301 WRITTEN EXAMINATION<br />

(a) The Board shall employ a standardized national examination<br />

in Marriage and Family Therapy as approved by the Association<br />

<strong>of</strong> Marriage and Family Therapy Regulatory Boards<br />

(AMFTRB). Licensure as a North Carolina Marriage and<br />

Family Therapist requires passing the National Marriage and<br />

Family Therapy Examination.<br />

(b) The examination shall be given at least biannually.<br />

(c) The passing score on the examination shall be determined by<br />

testing agency and the Board. Board in collaboration with the<br />

testing agency.<br />

(d) The qualifying examination may be taken when the Board<br />

approves the application.<br />

21 <strong>NC</strong>AC 31 .0302 REPORTING OF SCORES<br />

The Board shall inform the applicant <strong>of</strong> their examination score.<br />

A passing score qualifies the applicant for licensure. Those who<br />

have not passed the examination are referred to Rule .0303 <strong>of</strong><br />

this Section.<br />

21 <strong>NC</strong>AC 31 .0303 REEXAMINATION<br />

An applicant who has failed the written examination shall not be<br />

admitted to a subsequent examination for a period <strong>of</strong> at least six<br />

months. The applicant for re-examination shall not submit a<br />

new application form, but shall update any information in the<br />

application that is no longer accurate and pay another<br />

examination fee.<br />

SECTION .0400 - RENEWAL<br />

21 <strong>NC</strong>AC 31 .0401 LICENSURE RENEWAL FORM<br />

(a) The Licensure Renewal Form shall include year <strong>of</strong> renewal,<br />

fee, the licensee's current home and business address and<br />

telephone numbers.<br />

(b) Licenses not renewed by July 1 are expired.<br />

(c) Copies <strong>of</strong> continuing education certificates shall be attached<br />

to the renewal form.<br />

Licensees shall attach copies <strong>of</strong> continuing education certificates<br />

to the renewal form.<br />

SECTION .0500 – DEFINITIONS<br />

21 <strong>NC</strong>AC 31 .0501 APPROPRIATE COURSE OF<br />

STUDY<br />

The "appropriate course <strong>of</strong> study" in an allied mental health field<br />

in G.S. 90-270.54(1)a is a graduate degree that includes specific<br />

marriage and family therapy content including course work in<br />

general family studies, marriage and family therapy, personality<br />

theory, psychopathology, and a clinical practicum in marriage<br />

and family therapy. theoretical foundation <strong>of</strong> marriage and<br />

family therapy, assessment and diagnosis, practice <strong>of</strong> marriage<br />

and family therapy, human development and family relations,<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>essional identity and ethics, clinical research, and supervised<br />

clinical practicum or internship.<br />

21 <strong>NC</strong>AC 31 .0502 APPROVED ONGOING<br />

SUPERVISION<br />

(a) Approved ongoing On-going supervision as contained in<br />

G.S. 90-270.54(a)(1)b means face-to-face conversation with a<br />

person who: supervisor consistent with<br />

(1) is a licensed marriage and family therapist and<br />

has completed or is completing:<br />

(A) 36 hours <strong>of</strong> ongoing supervision <strong>of</strong><br />

supervision while supervising at least<br />

two marriage and family therapy<br />

supervisees;<br />

(B) a three semester hour course or<br />

equivalent in marriage and family<br />

therapy supervision;<br />

(C) a philosophy <strong>of</strong> supervision<br />

statement;<br />

(D) a report <strong>of</strong> the supervision process<br />

with one marriage and family therapy<br />

supervisee; or<br />

(2) holds the equivalent as determined by the<br />

Board.<br />

and Family Therapy, which are incorporated by the Board by<br />
