The Work Session Meeting of the Cresskill Board of Education was held on Monday, March 11,
2013 in the Board of Education Conference Room. The meeting was called to order by Denise
Villani at 7:30 p.m.

READING OF THE OPEN PUBLIC MEETING STATEMENT
“The New Jersey Open Public meetings Law was enacted to insure the right of the public to have
advance notice of and to attend the meetings of public bodies at which any business affecting their
interest is discussed or acted upon. In accordance with provisions of the act, The Cresskill Board of
Education has caused notice of this meeting taking place in the Cresskill Board of Education
Conference Room be published by having date, time and place thereof posted in the Cresskill
Board of Education office, sent to the Cresskill Library and Cresskill Borough Hall.”

A Public Hearing on the 2013-2014 school budget will be held on March 25, 2013.

EDUCATIONAL PLANNING
1. BE IT RESOLVED, that, subject to the applicable restrictions and requirements set forth in the
New Jersey travel payment guidelines as established by the Department of the Treasury, as
well as those guidelines established by the Office of Management and Budget, except to the
extent that said guidelines conflict with the provisions of Title 18A of the New Jersey Statutes,
the Board upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, hereby approves travel related to
attendance, as well as the payment and/or reimbursement for the allowable costs and expenses
associated with the attendance at the conferences or workshops for the professional staff as
noted, so long as said costs and/or expenses are consistent with the provisions of N.J.S.A.
18A:12-11.

Care Plus NJ, for mental health services from March 1, 2013 – June 30, 2013.
On a motion by Joseph Lepore, seconded by Sally Cummings and carried, the Board approved the
Educational Planning items.

BOARD PRESIDENT’S REPORT
No report at this time.
SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT
Dr. Bellina reported that we had a lock down drill at the middle school and high school today. We
checked for locks not working. The administrative team met to discuss any issues and will consider
some kind of outside alert for people entering the building.
Dr. Bellina stated that we will be meeting with the police to discuss evacuation drills. We will have
two (2) drills per school this year sometime in April/May/June. The first drill will be announced to
the parents but the second will not.
Dr. Bellina and Kevin Whitney are meeting with the Fire Chief tomorrow to discuss the lightning
detection system.
Dr. Bellina stated that the elementary school play is coming up and that the band is leaving for their
Disney trip on Wednesday, March 13, 2013.
Dr. Bellina stated that the Edward H. Bryan school main entrance will be move over the next three
(3) weeks. Merritt Memorial’s main entrance will be move in July.
Dr. Bellina stated that a date for the Board Retreat needs to be set up. Dr. Bellina stated that at this
retreat we will discuss Board Goals and District Goals. Dr. Bellina and the Board will look at the
calendar and possibly do the Board Retreat the last week of June.

Dr. Patricia Brown – 41 Adams Drive stated that Tuesday, March 19, 2013 is International Day at
Merritt Memorial School and she invited the Board to attend.

On a motion by Stephen Moldt, seconded by John Park and carried, the Cresskill Board of
Education Work Session Meeting of March 11, 2013 was adjourned at 8:15 p.m.
