INSTALLATION LONGSPAN SHELVING
The area required for laydown of materials will be contained, either within the
areas of installation of materials, or within a cordoned off area within the ground
floor stores.
Personal Protective Equipment
It is acknowledged that it is mandatory for all installers to wear Safety Helmets,
safety footwear (no rigger boots) and orange Hi Visibility vest.
Additional Personal Protective Equipment, which will be required
Riggers gloves.
Safety goggles.
Work wear.
The shelving system will be designed and manufactured and installed under
quality management systems conforming to International Quality Standards
BSEN ISO 9002:1994 and Quality Assessment Schedules (QAS) 2000 Category A,
for Pallet Racking and Shelving. On going checks of installation tolerance will be
made for all shelving installed and on completion a certificate of compliance will
be issued.
NOTE
We reserve the right to alter or amend all or any part of this Method Statement
should we feel that improvements to working safety could be made. Should we
do so we will confirm the amendment in writing to the site safety Co-Ordinator.
BUILDING ENVELOPE SURVEY
All areas will be surveyed to validate the shelving layout.
POSITIONING AND FIXING
All elements of the installation will be datumed and set up to the dimensions
detailed on the drawing.

All shelving within a height (top shelf) to depth ratio of 4:1 will be free standing.
Shelving outside this ratio will be floor fixed using M6 expansion fixings.
LONGSPAN SHELVING INSTALLATION METHODOLOGY
The Longspan system comprises pre-fabricated frames and beams. The beams
clip into the frames and are secured with locking clips.
The Longspan shelving on this contract is supplied with chipboard shelves.
To commence installation a pair of frames will be selected and the foot plates
fitted.
The frames will be raised vertically and beams fitted from bottom to top.
Beam locking clips will be fitted.
The beams will then be fitted to the correct positions and the shelf panels fitted
(the bays are free standing / floor fixed).
SEMA load signs will be fitted to selective bays.
Movement of materials from Storage area to Installation area, by team plus
supervisor
Brief Emcor about the movement via stairs , restrict access and liaise where
required.
Floor Protection by team plus supervisor
Laying down hard board and corex to protect floor surface.
