<strong>Storage</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>materials</strong><br />

<strong>INSTALLATION</strong> <strong>LONGSPAN</strong> <strong>SHELVING</strong><br />

<strong>The</strong> area required for laydown <strong>of</strong> <strong>materials</strong> will be contained, either within the<br />

areas <strong>of</strong> installation <strong>of</strong> <strong>materials</strong>, or within a cordoned <strong>of</strong>f area within the ground<br />

floor stores.<br />

Personal Protective Equipment<br />

It is acknowledged that it is mandatory for all installers to wear Safety Helmets,<br />

safety footwear (no rigger boots) and orange Hi Visibility vest.<br />

Additional Personal Protective Equipment, which will be required<br />

Riggers gloves.<br />

Safety goggles.<br />

Work wear.<br />

<strong>The</strong> shelving system will be designed and manufactured and installed under<br />

quality management systems conforming to International Quality Standards<br />

BSEN ISO 9002:1994 and Quality Assessment Schedules (QAS) 2000 Category A,<br />

for Pallet Racking and Shelving. On going checks <strong>of</strong> installation tolerance will be<br />

made for all shelving installed and on completion a certificate <strong>of</strong> compliance will<br />

be issued.<br />

NOTE<br />

We reserve the right to alter or amend all or any part <strong>of</strong> this Method Statement<br />

should we feel that improvements to working safety could be made. Should we<br />

do so we will confirm the amendment in writing to the site safety Co-Ordinator.<br />

BUILDING ENVELOPE SURVEY<br />

All areas will be surveyed to validate the shelving layout.<br />

POSITIONING AND FIXING<br />

All elements <strong>of</strong> the installation will be datumed and set up to the dimensions<br />

detailed on the drawing.


All shelving within a height (top shelf) to depth ratio <strong>of</strong> 4:1 will be free standing.<br />

Shelving outside this ratio will be floor fixed using M6 expansion fixings.<br />

<strong>LONGSPAN</strong> <strong>SHELVING</strong> <strong>INSTALLATION</strong> METHODOLOGY<br />

<strong>The</strong> Longspan system comprises pre-fabricated frames and beams. <strong>The</strong> beams<br />

clip into the frames and are secured with locking clips.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Longspan shelving on this contract is supplied with chipboard shelves.<br />

To commence installation a pair <strong>of</strong> frames will be selected and the foot plates<br />

fitted.<br />

<strong>The</strong> frames will be raised vertically and beams fitted from bottom to top.<br />

Beam locking clips will be fitted.<br />

<strong>The</strong> beams will then be fitted to the correct positions and the shelf panels fitted<br />

(the bays are free standing / floor fixed).<br />

SEMA load signs will be fitted to selective bays.<br />

Movement <strong>of</strong> <strong>materials</strong> from <strong>Storage</strong> area to Installation area, by team plus<br />

supervisor<br />

Brief Emcor about the movement via stairs , restrict access and liaise where<br />

required.<br />

Floor Protection by team plus supervisor<br />

Laying down hard board and corex to protect floor surface.
