Take note that the traditional Winter School for grade 12s will take place during the first week of the September
holidays. It will henceforth be known as the Spring School. We believe that it is better positioned just before the Final
Examinations when the syllabi in all subjects have been completed and the Preliminary Examinations have been
written.
2. SPORT
3.1 Athletics
The athletics is proceeding at full steam and despite the heavy rains of the past two weeks, we have participated in two
meetings. The weather however, had the last say at the successful meeting we hosted against Woodhill College and
Heuwelkruin College. A fierce thunderstorm resulted in the 1500 metre items and hurdles being cancelled.
Congratulations to the athletics relay teams who excelled at Uitsig High School’s relay meeting at Pilditch Stadium and
won seven team medals.
Our athletes met tough competition on the athletics track at Hoërskool Hartbeespoort’s meeting on Friday. Midstream
College finished fourth against schools double our size. Hartbeespoort, Gerrit Maritz and Grenswag showed us a clean
pair of heels. One characteristic of the athletes from Midstream College is their competitive attitude and we want to
congratulate and thank everyone who participated at Hartbeespoort.
The results and names of achievers are available on the school’s website. We are looking forward to our meeting on the
tartan track of Boksburg Stadium today against Stoffberg, Vereeniging and Jan Viljoen.
3.2 Swimming
Our gala at CBC was cancelled, but we managed to swim at Hartbeespoort on Wednesday and hosted our own gala on
Thursday. Congratulations to Chantal Addinall who participated in the Gauteng Provincial School Swimming trials and
won seven events.
3.3 Tennis
The senior girls team are doing us proud with their performances in the league. The team which consists of Leandri
Viljoen, Lenke Schmutz, Jeannie Jordaan, Chantal Oesch and Meagan Bekker, have won their last two league matches
convincingly. They beat the first team of Willowridge High by 40-27 and a team of Affies Meisies by 42-25. Good luck to
these girls with their remaining fixtures.
4. GRADE CAMPS
The various grade groups will be going on camps from 2-6 March. These camps are compulsory as the aims of the
camps are not only socialising and getting to know each other better, but are also adventure related. We will make
provision at the different venues for those learners with special dietary requirements. I would like to reassure our
parents of our commitment in making sure that each and every child will be looked after in the best possible way. All
our staff members that will accompany our learners will undergo a first aid course and we confirmed with the different
venues that all the facilitators that will be working with our learners are in possession of a first aid certificate. You will
receive a contact number of a staff member attending your child’s camp in order for you to make contact with the staff
at the camp if necessary.
The grade groups will attend the following camps:
