FERTILISERS | CONTROLLED RELEASE
Multigreen®
FERTILISERS | CONTROLLED RELEASE
Multigreen Selection Guide
MULTIGREEN IS A POLYMER RESIN COATED, CONTROLLED RELEASE FERTILISER THAT PROVIDES A CONSISTENT
RELEASE OF NUTRIENTS FOR UP TO 6-7 MONTHS, GOVERNED BY SOIL TEMPERATURE ALONE
Where to use Multigreen
There are four types of Multigreen
Multigreen 6 2 7
6 to 7 month response. For use on coarse turf areas cut at 10mm or above,
including sports pitches, golf tees and fairways.
Multigreen 4 2 5
4 to 5 month response. For use on coarse turf areas cut at 10mm or above,
including sports pitches, golf tees and fairways, as well as professional
lawncare.
Multigreen Fine
5 to 6 month response. Ideal for close mown areas maintained at 6mm
or above, such as golf tees, surrounds or approaches.
Multigreen Mini
For use on fine turf areas including golf and bowling greens. 5-6 month
response.
Multigreen Key Points
• Controlled release of nutrients for up to 7 months if required.
• Only soil temperature affects release, providing a consistent
response.
• Reduced clipping yield.
• No flushing or rapid soft growth.
• Nutrient release unaffected by increased rainfall or irrigation.
• Nutrients release in phase with the grass plant’s needs.
• Features potassium nitrate for cool season response.
• Sulphur free formulations available.
• Dust free prill.
• Safe and easy to apply.
How it Works...
After application,
the Multigreen
prill takes up
moisture over a
period of 7–10
days.
A small portion of the nitrogen is uncoated for initial release.
Nutrients are released as soon as the soil temperature rises above 6ºC.
Release carries on through the growing season according to the soil
temperature only – if it drops, so does the release rate. At the end of the
products release period, the
nutrients are totally exhausted
and the granule degrades.
Multigreen benefits
Multigreen’s different prill sizes
can be used on all turf areas to
provide an extended release of nutrients for up to 6–7 months. The longevity
of Multigreen has been tested
and consistently proven under
U.K. conditions over the last
14 years.
Key advantages of
Multigreen
Because Multigreen only relies
on soil temperature to regulate
release, increased rainfall will
not cause a ‘flush’ response.
Polymer Resin
Coating
Inner Nutrient
Core
This consistent, more predictable
feeding, results in denser turf, increased root development,
less clippings and a stronger, healthier sward.
The Multigreen prill releases nutrient slowly into the
rootzone, which is quickly utilised by the plant. This
means that leaching is minimised and the nutrients are
used more efficiently than with conventional fertilisers.
Multigreen utilises potassium nitrate technology in its
formulations. This provides a sulphur free source of easily
available nitrogen and plant strengthening potassium.
MULTIGREEN 6–7 month formulations are ideal
for all coarse turf areas. As release is governed by
temperature alone, nutrients are available to the
grass plant in the correct amount, at the right time.
The benefits of this approach include increased
turf safety when applying to non irrigated areas,
minimal leaching during excessive rainfall, and
consistent growth that withstands wear and
generates good sward thickness.
MULTIGREEN 4–5 month fertilisers feature all the
benefits above, but releases over a slightly shorter
period. Nutrient release is not increased during wet
weather, avoiding ’flush’ growth when it is difficult
to cut treated areas. Lower application rates provide
a cost effective solution to feeding large areas with
minimal leaching, consistent response and
less clipping generation.
MULTIGREEN FINE features a smaller prill suitable
for use on close mown areas such as some golf
tees, green surrounds and approaches. It contains
a potassium nitrate fast start portion that will
encourage gentle, hard growth under cooler
conditions.
MULTIGREEN MINI is a prilled fertiliser for fine
turf areas. The dense prills fall to the base of the
sward and incorporate into the soil surface. They
provide a gentle but consistent release of
nutrients over 5–6 months. Again, nutrient
release is dependent on soil temperature alone.
Multigreen Mini 12-0-44 is a
unique, mini-prilled, controlled
release fertiliser that works for
up to 6 months over the autumn
and winter periods, on all types
of turf areas. Multigreen
12-0-44 is really 3 products in 1.
1. It contains a high potassium fast
start portion for initial response in
the autumn.
2. The controlled release portion then
kicks in and provides release of small
amounts of nitrogen (but always
three times as much potassium)
whilst soil temperatures exceed
6 o c. (When low soil temperatures
mean that growth stops – then
Multigreen stops releasing also.)
3. As soil temperatures rise in the
spring, then gentle release starts
again to provide an early, cool
season response.
Because Multigreen 12-0-44 contains
nitrate nitrogen and more than 3
times as much potash, (both in
controlled release form) a strong,
hardened plant is maintained
through the winter and an early
spring start achieved.
As the controlled release of nutrients
in Multigreen is governed by soil
temperature alone, excessive rainfall
has no effect whatsoever.
Controlled release potassium
Uncoated forms of potassium in standard fertilisers, quickly solubilise
and can be rapidly leached from the rootzone. This limits the beneficial
effects of this nutrient – especially in cooler soils. Some Multigreen formulations
however, feature controlled release potassium. The coated
potassium source releases gradually, regulated by soil temperature only,
maintaining availability over a long period. The potassium in Multigreen
will continue to be available even during wet seasons, long after conventional
sources have been exhausted.
FERTILISERS | STABILIZED® NITROGEN - SLOW RELEASE
Xtend
FERTILISERS | STABILIZED® NITROGEN - SLOW RELEASE
Xtend
DESIGNED FOR COST EFFECTIVE USE ON ALL OUTFIELD TURF, XTEND FEATURES A UNIQUE, SOLUBLE, SLOW RELEASE NITROGEN
THAT IS SAFE TO APPLY AND LASTS FOR UP TO 3 MONTHS. AVAILABLE IN GRANULAR, SOLUBLE OR LIQUID FORMULATIONS.
Xtend 46-0-0 GRANULAR
Headland Xtend Key Points
• Unique slow release nitrogen, feeds for
up to 3 months.
• Granular, soluble or liquid formulations
for extra flexibility.
• Suitable for all coarse turf areas.
• Efficient use of nitrogen as loss to the
atmosphere is limited.
• Soluble slow release
granules mean no
pick-up.
• Safer for turf on areas
without irrigation.
• Liquids are tank
mixable with ‘Relay
Turf’ or ‘Cabadex’ for
‘weed and feed’
applications.
How it works
Headland Xtend uses UFLEXX® stabilized
nitrogen technology. Each urea prill is treated
with two soluble chemical coatings to;
1. Prevent loss of nitrogen to the
atmosphere (volatilisation)
Untreated urea is prone to volatilisation, resulting
in loss of applied nitrogen and causing
severe scorch under certain climatic conditions
2. Slow down nitrogen conversion
in the soil.
This means that the nitrogen stays in
outfield type soils much longer, as it
binds more easily to clay and organic
matter particles. Because of this, it is
more resistant to leaching and will
provide a response under cool
conditions.
Where to use Xtend
Xtend is particularly suited for use on all coarse
turf areas including golf tees and fairways,
sportsgrounds, and professional lawncare.
46-0-0 Granular is ideally suited for use on
sports pitches, race tracks and polo fields.
High Analysis = Low Application Rate
= Low Cost
The regular and easy to see Xtend 46-0-0 granule
allows efficient application at rates as low as
10g/m 2 . This low rate applies 46kg/ha of N,
enough to last 3 months from one application.
Easy to apply granule with minimal
pick up
Xtend 46-0-0 granules are extremely soluble
and will disappear into the grass sward on
contact with moisture, so the potential for
pick up is significantly reduced.
stabilized nitrogen, slow release fertiliser for use
on golf course tees, approaches, surrounds,
Increased Nitrogen Efficiency = Safer
for the environment
Xtend 46-0-0 Granular contains two key
components that increase nitrogen efficiency.
Firstly, the volatilisation inhibitor (NBPT)
prevents loss of nitrogen to the atmosphere
as ammonia, a gas linked to the formation of
particulate matter in the atmosphere. Then
the nitrification inhibitor (DCD) slows down
the conversion of ammonium nitrogen to
nitrate nitrogen, thereby keeping it in a form
that is less likely to be leached from the rootzone.
This combination of NBPT and DCD with
urea, increases the efficiency of the applied
nitrogen, providing improved turf safety and
extended release with low leaching potential.
from 20Kg up to 40Kg per hectare and is safe
to use at low water volumes even in the
with its high nitrogen analysis. All of the nitrogen present is immediately
available to the grass plant, so response is rapid even at low application rates.
High Analysis – Low Application Rate Flexibility
Blaukorn 24-5-5 can be applied as low as 20g/m 2 and this still offers 48kg
of nitrogen per hectare, - the equivalent to applying a traditional 9-7-7
analysis at over 50g/m 2 . A lower application rate means fewer bags applied
per hectare, involving less storage, transportation and manpower.
Blaukorn 15-3-20+2MgO+10S+Micronutrients
Blaukorn 15-3-20 is formulated for use as either a low nitrogen spring
starter or as a traditional autumn / winter, high-potassium fertiliser for
outfield turf. As with Blaukorn N-Max, all of the nitrogen present is
immediately available to the grass plant, so response is rapid even at low
application rates. The higher potassium analysis ensures hard growth
results after application and typically 25g/m 2 will provide sustained
feeding for 6-8 weeks when applied in October or March
Optimum Granule Characteristics
The granulation of Blaukorn has been refined, compared to the original
Nitrophoska product and now 90% of the granules are between 2.0 – 4.0mm,
with the average granule size range between 2.8 and 3.4mm. This provides
optimum spreading characteristics whether applied through a pedestrian
or tractor-mounted spreader. Granule breakdown is also exceptionally fast
due to the use of more highly soluble raw materials. As an added benefit,
the granules are dyed blue to increase visibility during application.
Optimum Nutrient Package
Both Blaukorn analyses feature immediately available ammonium and
nitrate nitrogen, derived from ammonium nitrate and ammonium sulphate,
to ensure a fast turf response even during cool spring and autumn temperatures.
The phosphorus content is derived from phosphoric acid for
quicker availability to the grass plant and the potassium from sulphateof
potash for maximum turf safety. Blaukorn products also feature the
important secondary plant nutrients - sulphur and magnesium as well
as micronutrients, boron, iron and zinc.
Low Salt Index
Many outfield fertilisers utilise potassium chloride as their potassium
source, but although cheaper, this has a higher scorch risk to the grass
plant. Scorch risk is measured by the salt index of the fertiliser, - the
higher the salt index, the higher the scorch risk. Potassium chloride has
a salt index of 116, whereas potassium sulphate (the form used in Blaukorn)
has a salt index of only 46 In practice this can be up to 60% safer to the
grass plant.
MULTIVERDO MINIPRILL 13-0-46 IS A MICRO-PRILLED FORMULATION IDEALLY SUITED FOR PROMOTING GROWTH
AND RECOVERY IN LOW SOIL TEMPERATURE CONDITIONS
Multiverdo Miniprill 13-0-46 Key Points
• 100% potassium nitrate – no carrier
• Easy to see during application
• Nitrate nitrogen for immediate plant availability with no sulphur
• Ideally suited for use in black-layer situations
• Micro-prilled formulation for ease of application and quick dispersal into the sward
• Low application rates for cost-effective use
Multiverdo’s formulation of potassium nitrate contains no sulphur and
nearly 50% oxygen as part of its chemical structure. The nitrate nitrogen
contained in Multiverdo requires no conversion in the soil before being
available to the plant making it ideal for use while soil temperatures are
low, during the autumn and spring, promoting growth and recovery,
particularly after aeration.
Easy application with minimal disruption
The easy to see, white micro-prills make application extremely straightforward
and once applied, they quickly dissolve, eliminating pick up
problems.
Why Multiverdo Miniprill is beneficial for Black Layer
The high oxygen and low sulphur
accumulations of organic matter. When this occurs, oxygen is unable to
move freely through the soil profile (Note –oxygen moves through
water at only 1/10,000th of the rate it moves through air) and eventually
the grass plant experiences a lack of oxygen known as hypoxia.
Hypoxic stress is a growing feature of golf turf as our changing climate
features heavy rainfall over short periods of time, severely testing the
physical properties of rootzones. At the same time, the microbial balance
in the soil shifts away from organisms that respire oxygen to those that
use nitrate and/or sulphur (so called sulphur-respiring bacteria) leading
to soil denitrification and the production of toxic hydrogen sulphide
gas. To correct anaerobic conditions and hypoxic stress, a number of
measures can be undertaken including;
content of Multiverdo Miniprill
make it ideally suited for use in
• The addition of nitrate nitrogen to counteract the process of
denitrification
anaerobic conditions where soil
oxygen levels are deficient.
• The addition of oxygen to raise the redox status of the soil and
counteract Hypoxia
These conditions usually occur
when a rootzone becomes
• A reduction in sulphur input to deter sulphur-respiring soil bacteria
waterlogged due to poor
drainage, incompatible soil
physical characteristics and/or
The use of Multiverdo Miniprill as part of an overall strategy can help to
meet the above requirements by providing chemical oxygen without
additional sulphur as part of the fertiliser program.
FERTILISERS | FINE TURF
Greentec Fertilisers
FERTILISERS | FINE TURF
NEW Greentec Mosskiller Pro 4-0-4+9Fe
ADVANCED FORMULATION TECHNOLOGY PRODUCES A UNIFORM, FINE TURF GRANULE WITH AN AVERAGE SIZE OF 1.25mm.
EACH GRANULE IS HOMOGENEOUS AND HELPS TO PROVIDE A CONSISTENT TURF RESPONSE, EVEN AT LOW APPLICATION RATES.
New Improved
Greentec Formulations
For 2010, three Greentec
analyses have been
re-formulated and this
reflects an ongoing product
improvement process that
will eventually benefit the
whole Greentec range.
Naturvigor – Composted Organic Base
The incorporation of a composted organic base to three new analyses in
the Greentec range uses Naturvigor, an aerobically-composted cow
manure, fortified with humic acid. The addition of this material to each
analysis provides an organic nitrogen fraction, stimulates microbial activity
and enhances root development.
Slow-Release Organic Potassium
In some products, the potassium source is derived from Kali Vinasse, a
potash-rich sugar beet pulp. Bound in an organic complex, potassium is
released slowly by microbial activity and with a 1:2 nitrogen – potassium
ratio, the resulting growth produces a tough grass leaf, resilient to stress
and disease.
Depending on the product, up to four different
forms of nitrogen feature in Greentec fertilisers.
This provides optimum response over a wider range
of conditions.
Rapid breakdown
The granule is formulated to break down quickly
after application, on contact with moisture,
minimising disruption to play and maintenance
practices such as grooming or scarifying.
Where to use Greentec Fertilisers
Suitable for use on all fine turf areas including golf
and bowling greens, and in professional lawncare.
Greentec 14-2-6+2MgO+Fe+2.7% Humic Acid
Greentec 14-2-6+2MgO+Fe is formulated as a spring starter and utilises
three different nitrogen sources to ensure rapid, but sustained results.
Sulphate of ammonia provides the immediate green up and the initial
response is then sustained by the addition of both urea and organic
nitrogen. Colour and growth are enhanced by the addition of magnesium
and iron to the formulation. Particle breakdown is rapid, minimising pick
up and the fine granulation also allows application down to 15g/m 2 ,
when only a small nitrogen input is required.
Greentec 13-3-13+MgO+2.7% Humic Acid and Methylene Urea
Greentec 13-3-13+MgO is formulated as a summer granular fertiliser to
provide safe and sustained feeding, even during cool, wet periods of
weather. The product features four different forms of nitrogen. The first,
ammonium sulphate, provides the initial release and low-temperature
response. This is enhanced to provide 6 weeks longevity, by three longer
-term nitrogen forms, urea, methylene urea and organic nitrogen. Granule
breakdown is rapid, minimising pick up and like the other Greentec analyses,
the fine granulation allows low application rate flexibility, down to 15g/m 2 .
Ideal for application Pre-Anthracnose Disease Period
Greentec 13-3-13+MgO is ideally suited to a light-rate application in
July, just prior to the main anthracnose disease pressure period to
enhance growth and provide good levels of plant vigour. Research has
shown that one of the most effective ways of preventing Anthracnose is
to raise plant nitrogen levels just prior to the main disease period.
Greentec Fertilisers Key Points
• Conventional release, mini granular fertilisers for fine turf.
• Features a mix of nitrogen sources to ensure results under a wide
range of conditions.
• Breaks down quickly to avoid disruption to play.
• Uniform granule size for even turf response.
• Lower scorch risk than with chloride based formulations.
• Suitable for golf and bowling greens. Bag Size: 25Kg
FOR SPRING AND AUTUMN USE
Greentec Microtonic
3-0-6+3Fe
* For effective moss control - use at the higher rate.
The 4-0-4+9Fe
formulation features a
balanced NK analysis
and the economy of a
lower potassium
content than its
predecessor. In addition
to its mosskilling
qualities, it is ideal for
use as a spring
Greentec 6-5-18 provides excellent rapid response, even at low soil
temperatures, producing sustained colour without soft, disease prone
growth. It achieves this by utilising both ammonium and nitrate
nitrogen in its formulation. Both are immediately available to the plant
without the need for prior conversion in the soil by bacterial activity.
Greentec 6-5-18 is ideal for use in the autumn/winter and also as a
spring starter.
Balanced analysis fits leachate research identified requirement.
Many turf rootzones feature a high sand content as a result of initial
construction or from accumulated top dressing. Leachate trials
conducted by Headland Amenity and confirmed by soil analyses,
show that after the winter, such rootzones are often low in phosphorus
starter or a low temperature hardener on all areas
of amenity turf where prolonged colour, but not
growth is required.
Apply after cutting to allow the maximum time to
treat the moss before re-cutting. Water-in if applied
during dry, hot periods. Avoid applying during
rainfall or frost. Remove from hard surfaces immediately
to avoid staining.
LIQUID FERTILISERS THAT CONTAIN THE UNIQUE SLOW RELEASE NITROGEN SOURCE – TRIAZONE – A MECHANISM
PROVEN IN THE UK CLIMATE OVER THE LAST DECADE.
Headland N-Sure 28-0-0 and Trisert KS 15-0-12 both contain significant levels
of Triazone and provide a significantly greater longevity of response than
when using conventional liquids. N-Sure and Trisert KS are extremely safe and
have an inherently lower scorch risk compared to other liquid and soluble
fertilisers. This means that watering-in of Triazone based products is not
necessary from a safety angle – unlike many other liquid fertilisers which
may require supplementary irrigation. The slow release properties of
Triazone provide gradual nitrogen availability to the plant, reducing the
amount of clippings produced and producing growth characteristics –
even when comparatively large amounts of nutrients are applied.
Where to use slow-release liquids
N-Sure and Trisert KS are suitable for use on all turf areas, including golf
and bowling greens, tees, approaches, surrounds, fairways, winter season
pitches, cricket outfields and domestic lawns.
Tank mixing
Tank mixing is an ideal method of saving labour and fine tuning fertiliser
Vertex CONVENTIONAL LIQUID FERTILISERS
Vertex fertilisers contain conventional (non-slow) release nitrogen where a
faster response is required. They are suitable for tank mixing with other
liquid and soluble fertilisers to provide flexibility of nutrient input.
Vertex NK 10-0-10 contains a mixture of nitrogen forms for consistent
response, whatever the weather conditions. These include nitrate
nitrogen for good low temperature response and ureic nitrogen for
longer term feeding and enhanced safety in warmer conditions
Vertex K 0-0-25 is a high potassium liquid used to strengthen turf. It
may be tankmixed with N-Sure 28-0-0 to create a nitrogen / potassium
liquid fertiliser. By varying the amounts of these two products, the user
can create a low N with high K or a low K with high N feed. (For more
detailed information on tank-mixes, please contact Headland Amenity).
Where to use Vertex Liquid Fertilisers
Vertex fertilisers are suitable for use on all turf areas including golf and
bowling greens, tees, approaches, surrounds, fairways, winter season
pitches, cricket outfields and domestic lawns.
applications. Headland
has developed a
number of tank mix
recommendations to
further enhance
performance. These
ORGANIC SOIL CONDITIONERS | FINE TURF
C-Complex
WITH NATURVIGOR
ORGANIC SOIL CONDITIONERS | COARSE TURF
Naturvigor
C-COMPLEX IS A NEW GENERATION ORGANIC FERTILISER FEATURING AN AEROBICALLY COMPOSTED COW
MANURE AND HUMIC ACID BASE
C-Complex not only contains humic acid and aerobically composted
cow manure, but to provide a complete package, it also contains coldtemperature
processed seaweed extract as well as balanced primary,
secondary and micronutrients.
C-Complex Key Points
• Composted cow manure and humic
acid base
• Full complement of micronutrients
• Soft granule formulation for fast
breakdown
• No tacky inter-phase
• Low odour
Bag Size: 25Kg
Unique Granule Characteristics – Fast Breakdown for Fast
Response
C-Complex utilises ‘soft granule’ technology which allows faster breakdown
when in contact with moisture, without the tacky inter-phase typical of
poultry manure based fertilisers. The result is minimal mower pick up
and faster plant availability of nutrients, assuring a rapid response.
High Humic Acid Content
Most poultry based organic fertilisers only contain trace levels of humic
acid, typically in the region of 0.25–0.50%. C-Complex 4-3-4 contains
9.0% humic acid for encouragement of root and shoot development.
Fully Composted Organic Base =
No Nitrogen Drawdown
Non or only partly composted organic fertilisers rely on microbial activity
to complete the process, utilising nitrogen from the rootzone to achieve
this. In so doing, they deprive the plant of this important nutrient. C-
Complex has a fully composted organic base that does not adversely
affect nitrogen availability to the plant.
C-Complex 4-3-4+5CaO+3MgO
The Complete Pre-seeder
Many specifications for grass establishment list organic fertiliser, high
phosphate pre-seeder and a micronutrient package for inclusion in the
rootzone prior to seeding or turfing. C-Complex satisfies these requirements
by providing all primary, secondary and micronutrients in one
granule, along with humic acid and a high carbon loading.
Ideal for use at Aeration
Its fine granule size, rapid breakdown, balanced analysis and low
temperature response make C-Complex 4-3-4 ideally suited for use
during aeration to promote fast recovery. In addition, the enhanced
humic acid content helps to stimulate new root development whilst
the high carbon content provides a food source for soil microbes.
• High humic acid content – 9.0%
• Ammonium nitrogen for fast turf response
• Excellent for use as a Pre-seeder and at aeration
C-Complex 7-0-7+3CaO+2MgO
Excellent Low Temperature Nitrogen Response – Ideal as a
Spring Starter
C-Complex 7-0-7 contains both nitrate and ammoniacal nitrogen for
excellent availability in cool temperatures. This is combined with urea
and organic nitrogen providing gentle, extended release. The use of four
different types of nitrogen makes C-Complex 7-0-7 ideally suited for use
during the spring and summer.
• High humic acid content 6.7%
• Ammonium and nitrate nitrogen for fast turf response
• Urea and organic nitrogen for extended, gentle release
• Excellent for use as a spring starter
this product ideal for use on impoverished, sandy soils. Naturvigor also
contains a comprehensive range of micronutrients.
The 1% iron content is complexed by humic acids to ensure long term
availability.
Aerobic Composting
A two stage composting process is used to produce Naturvigor. Firstly,
the cow manure is turned frequently, over a period of 5–7 months to
input oxygen, regulate temperature and encourage aerobic decomposition.
Then the final phase of composting takes place under cover, to protect
the beneficial bacteria present from the harmful effects of UV rays.
Humic acids with a high fulvic acid fraction (for maximum availability)
are then added to the mixture prior to granulation.
Naturvigor Key Points
• Fairway grade formulation.
• 1-1-1 analysis with added iron and micronutrients.
• Free-flowing granule - Easy to apply, with rapid
particle breakdown.
The Effects of Using Naturvigor
Application of Naturvigor imparts a number of benefits to impoverished
soils including:
• Improved organic matter recycling (by introducing actinomycetes,
the micro-organisms responsible for thatch breakdown)
• Increased nutrient retention, thereby maximising the effects of fertiliser
applications.
• Increased soil micro flora population.
Where to use Naturvigor
Naturvigor can be used for application to golf course fairways, semi-rough
and rough areas and also on winter season pitches, race courses, polo
grounds and in professional lawn care.
BIOSTIMULANTS | SEAWEED WITH AMINO ACIDS | POST STRESS RECOVERY
Seamac Ultra Plus
SEAMAC ULTRA PLUS IS A CONCENTRATED BIOACTIVE SEAWEED EXTRACT WITH 17 PLANT-AVAILABLE AMINO
ACIDS IN AN EASY TO APPLY LIQUID FORM.
The bioactive seaweed extract is processed soon after harvesting to
maintain the natural goodness present and independent tests have shown
it is especially high in gibberellic acid – a known plant growth hormone.
Amino Acid Content
The benefits of using seaweed extracts as foliar and root drench applications
are well established on sports turf, but with Seamac Ultra Plus, the
formulation is greatly enhanced by the presence of plant available
amino acids.
Amino acids are involved in numerous functions that facilitate healthy
plant growth including shoot and root development, nitrogen transfer
within the plant, chlorophyll production and protection against
pathogens to name but a few.
Enhanced Growth in Stress Situations
When a plant is growing normally it uses energy produced during the
photosynthetic process to produce amino acid. However, when it is under
stress, the efficiency of this process can be severely reduced leading to a
decrease in the amount of amino acids produced.
Application of amino acids from an external source, (e.g. Seamac Ultra Plus)
when a plant is under stress, stimulates growth and recovery. Fundamental
building blocks necessary to facilitate growth are provided, with no need
for the plant to expend energy that is already in short supply.
Foliar Application of Amino Acids
Plants are able to absorb amino acids through the leaves. However if the
molecular weight of the amino acid is too great (>400 Daltons), this
Seamac Ultra Plus Key Points
• Liquid seaweed with plant essential amino acids
• Cold extracted seaweed provides high levels of bioactive
plant growth hormones.
• Improves stress resistance in turf and aids recovery.
• Increases photosynthesis and growth response.
• Enhances root development in stressed
areas.
• Tank-mixable with other Headland
products.
Pack Size: 10 and 100 Litres
process is inefficient. The average molecular weight of the amino acids
present in Seamac Ultra Plus is 130 Daltons and this allows them to be
absorbed in a few hours, penetrating the cell membrane and rapidly
becoming incorporated in the metabolic routes of protein synthesis.
Foliar application is especially effective in stimulating chlorophyll
production when the plant is under stress as the plant can struggle to
manufacture amino acids of its own.
Root Application of Amino Acids
The low molecular weight of the amino acids in Seamac Ultra Plus, are also
capable of absorption by plant roots.
Applied as a soil drench they stimulate the activity of micro organisms
and increase the efficiency of nitrogen transfer through the plant.
Root development is specifically stimulated by the presence of Arginine
– a key amino acid involved in root formation.
PRE STRESS PREVENTION | BIOSTIMULANTS | SEAWEED WITH HUMIC ACID
Turfcomplex exploits the synergistic effect of seaweed combined with
humic acid to meet the twin objectives of improved root mass and
reduced plant stress.
The latter is achieved by stimulating antioxidant production to scavenge
or prevent the formation of free radicals - a process known to reduce
plant stress levels.
Turfcomplex contains Algifol®, a concentrated extract of brown algae, dried
and refined through an ultra low temperature process which concentrates
the contained growth stimulants, enzymes and amino acids, without
damaging their effectiveness.
Turfcomplex also contains high levels of activated humic and fulvic acids
to promote root growth. At 40 litres per hectare, Turfcomplex supplies
the research-identified optimum rate (1.75kg per hectare) of humic acid.
To maximise root hardiness, Turfcomplex contains an elevated level of
chelated manganese, and at full rate, supplies the research - identified
optimum requirement.
This high level of manganese is also beneficial in alkaline soil scenarios
where the additional content of chelated iron and micronutrients in Turfcomplex
ensures complete micronutrient availability, even at high pH levels.
How to use Turfcomplex
Turfcomplex is formulated for use both as a root drench and as a
foliar application.
INFORMATION | MANAGING TURF STRESS
Dealing with Stress
SOLUFEED TEMAG HPE | SOLUBLE IRON/MICRONUTRIENTS
TeMag HPE with Harpin Plant Elicitor
INTENSIVELY MANAGED TURF IS HIGHLY SUSCEPTIBLE TO STRESS, ESPECIALLY IN OUR EVER-CHANGING AND
OFTEN EXTREME NORTHERN CLIMATE.
SOLUFEED TEMAG HPE PROVIDES A VERSATILE SOLUTION TO HELP OVERCOME PLANT STRESS AND
MINIMISE THE EFFECTS OF DISEASE.
Root gall of Subanguina radicicola nematode.
In order to achieve recovery from stress it is key that, along with
applications of such materials, the correct cultural processes are also
Dealing with a Dry Spring – A Preventative Strategy
Spring can be a difficult time to achieve consistent grass growth, with a
lack of both soil temperature and moisture, being potentially growthlimiting.
adopted to increase the plants recuperative ability. Both these areas are
dealt with in depth in the technical article available from Headland
Amenity – ‘Dealing with Nematode Stress’
Climate analysis over the last 45 years has shown the
trend for Spring to become warmer and drier with a quicker
Drought stress
To Irrigate or not to Irrigate?
During dry Spring months, it is the surface layer of the rootzone, typically
the top 2” (5cm) that dries out and therefore only light syringing irrigation
or localised hand-watering is necessary to rectify the problem. There is
often a concern over any reduction in soil temperature (and consequently
growth) caused by early irrigation. In fact, field trials conducted by
Headland Amenity have shown this affect to be short-lived, lasting only
1-2 hours at most. Failure to rectify surface dessication can lead to
growth suppression in its own right and hasten the onset of Poa annua
seedhead formation by putting the plant under stress.
Apply TriCure AD early – Pre-Stress Conditioning
To ensure that the rootzone is receptive to light irrigation and / or rainfall,
it is vitally important to apply Tricure AD wetting agent early in the year,
before the rootzone begins to dry out. Prevention is always better than
cure when dealing with hydrophobicity. Headland Amenity suggests
commencing applications in early to mid-March at 7 – 10 litres per
hectare and repeat on a monthly basis, ideally combined with a bioactive
biostimulant, such as Turfcomplex. (see below)
Post-Stress Conditioning
The pictures on this page show typical turf damage by pathogenic
nematode species on managed turf areas. Assuming that the plant is
already damaged by stress, there is a need to try and stimulate recovery
of new root and shoot tissue. As with pre-stress conditioning, there are a
number of materials that can help achieve this, either by providing the
building blocks of plant growth, as is the case with amino acids, or by
stimulating the plants natural defense mechanism (SAR) using plant
elicitors such as Harpin or Phosphite.
Turf mottling caused by Subanguina spp nematode.
Turfite 7-24-0 @ 30L/ha + Seamac Ultra Plus
@ 10L/ha + TeMag HPE @ 6kg/ha
400 litres of water
TeMag HPE is a three-in-one, water soluble product, containing 10%
chelated iron, a full range of chelated micronutrients and the unique
plant elicitor – Harpin protein.
As the diagram (bottom right) shows, Harpin works by stimulating the
plant to grow under the general effects of stress. In the case of stress
caused by fungal attack it can minimise the overall damage and effect
of turf disease. Harpin itself does not enter the plant or directly affect
the pathogenic fungus. Instead it binds to specialised receptors on the
plant leaf and triggers physiological processes within the plant itself that
elicit an increased growth and vigour response.
Harpin was initially developed for the agricultural market where it has
shown itself to promote yields and, most importantly, maximise the efficacy
of fungicide treatments by encouraging stronger, healthier growth.
The mode of action of Harpin is complemented in the TeMag HPE
formulation by the addition of chelated iron and magnesium for
enhanced colour (photosynthesis) and a full range of micronutrients to
prevent potential deficiencies limiting growth.
LIQUID FORMULATION UTILISING PHOSPHITE TECHNOLOGY TO HARDEN TURF,
AID STRESS MANAGEMENT AND IMPROVE DISEASE RESISTANCE.
Phosphite (as opposed to phosphate) is a form of phosphorus that has
some unique properties when applied as a fertiliser. It is extremely
mobile within the plant and, once absorbed, undergoes an oxidation
process that provides a continual release of soluble phosphorus.
Secondly, phosphite, unlike phosphate, does not react with calcium in
high pH, alkaline rootzone situations, to be rendered unavailable to the
grass plant.
Lastly and most importantly, phosphite triggers the plant’s own immune
system, providing benefits of stress resistance and improved overall
plant health, particularly during periods of high disease pressure.
How to use
Turfite can be used in a tank mix combination with Solufeed Hi-K and /
or Seamac ProTurf to provide a perfect low temperature tonic for the
Autumn / Winter and Spring.
In addition, the readily available form of phosphorus in Turfite is ideally
suited for use in over-seeding situations and after aeration to stimulate
new root development.
Liquid Turf Hardener
SOIL TREATMENTS | AXIS | GREENS-GRADE GYPSUM
XL FAIRWAY | INFO XL | WETTING AGENTS
XL Fairway
AXIS IS A GRANULAR SOIL AMENDMENT PRODUCT THAT INTRODUCES NON-COMPACTING PORE SPACE INTO
PROBLEM ROOTZONES.
The product is calcined (heated to around 1800°C) to create
a stable and durable particle that is resistant to breakdown. Its internal
pore structure helps overcome problems such as compaction and black
layer by introducing air filled porosity (oxygen) into the rootzone. In
poorly draining soils, Axis helps to increase percolation rates, moving
water through the soil profile. On free draining soils with low CEC, Axis
acts to retain water and nutrients to promote continued growth in
adverse conditions.
Once applied, Axis becomes a permanent part of the rootzone. Use AXIS:
• On compacted soils with poor oxygen content
• Badly draining soils
• Soils that have black layer or anaerobic conditions
• Sandy soils that dry out too rapidly.
• Areas of high traffic and wear.
• Turf areas with poor root structure and development.
• As a surface dressing to discourage moss and algae colonization
High volume - low weight
The beneficial effects of soil amendments depend on the actual amount
(or volume) of product applied, rather than on the weight. Axis is
extremely light, so a bag of Axis contains significantly more product
than the same weight of other types of amendment.
Application
Apply after aeration, combined with the topdressing material or in a
‘Drill and Fill’ operation.
Axis Key Points
• Lightweight, porous granule to help improve problem soils.
• Increases the oxygen holding capacity of soils.
• Helps improve drainage and permeability.
• Helps reduce compaction.
• Balances air and water in the rootzone, encouraging rooting.
• Can increase water and nutrient availability in sandy soils.
Pack Size: 11.34kg bags.
For best results, use 14-20 bags (eg: after coring)
or up to 40 bags (e.g after verti-draining) per 500m 2 .
Apply Axis after aeration, in isolation or mixed 50/50 with a suitable top
dressing. Drag mat or brush into holes and water-in.
Axis can also be used
(1) In renovation where it can be rotovated into the top 150 mm of
root zone before re-turfing or seeding.
(2) Premixed into rootzone used in construction.
Please contact Headland Amenity for detailed rate and application
infomation.
POWERFUL SOIL WETTER WITH BIOACTIVE SEAWEED EXTRACT FOR USE ON FAIRWAYS, SPORTS
PITCHES AND OUTFIELD TURF.
Increased water penetration
The Organosiloxane soil surfactants used in XL Fairway have excellent
penetrant capabilities, helping moisture to move into the soil profile,
optimising the use of applied irrigation and preventing loss through
run-off. Field trials have also shown that application of XL Fairway provides
a short-term dew dispersal effect, thereby minimising disease potential
and providing a drier cut.
Bioactive Seaweed
XL Fairway also features a highly active seaweed extract, rich in gibberellic
acid, to aid plant growth processes and reduce stress. Field trials have
Speed SOIL PENETRANT
shown that application of XL Fairway results in a more consistent and even
turf cover as hydrophobic ‘hot spots’ are dissipated by the penetrating
action of the soil surfactant and the ingression of moisture.
Tank Mixing
XL Fairway is suitable for application with other tank mix components
designed to act in the soil but should not be mixed with foliar absorbed
materials due to placement incompatibility. XL Fairway is designed to
act in the soil, not on the leaf.
XL Fairway Key Points
• Cost effective, penetrant wetter for large areas.
• Ideal to aid moisture penetration into dry and compacted soils.
• Added bioactive seaweed provides
growth stimulants.
• Short term dew dispersal effect.
Speed is a highly active soil surfactant
that has been specially formulated to
increase the penetration of water into
the soil profile. The powerful formulation of Speed is designed for use at
very low application rates and is ideal for cost-effective re-wetting of dry
areas without risk of scorch. During wet periods, speed can be utilised to
aid removal of excess water from turf surfaces.
Use when Top-dressing
Speed can be used after top dressing to minimise pick-up. After the top
dressing has been brushed or drag-matted in, 2 or 3 passes should be
made with the sprinkler heads to wet up the sand on the surface of the
turf. Finally, applying Speed at this point will minimise pickup on
machinery and shoes.
treat all types of rootzone particles, such as soil and sand,
as well as organic matter, including peat and thatch.
This multi-molecular approach provides 3 distinct characteristics,
and advantages over single molecule wetters.
1 Adhesion to various surfaces including plant lignin and
cellulose, attracting water molecules and facilitating water
penetration into thatch and soil organic matter.
2 Better hydration of soil particles along with a reduction in water
surface tension.
Optimum partner for Fairy Ring Fungicides
The unique surfactant chemistries utilised in Tricure AD are extremely
beneficial when tank-mixed with Fairy Ring fungicides such as Heritage® in
facilitating penetration of the tankmix solution to the area of the rootzone
where the fungus is active.
Improved dry-down characteristics
Getting water to drain quickly can positively affect growing and playing
conditions. Use of TriCure AD can increase the speed of drainage resulting
in faster soil surface dry-down characteristics and a more rapid return to
play after rain or irrigation. TriCure AD works by attaching to soil particles,
reducing the surface tension of water, and attracting a thin film of water close
to the particle surface. This allows optimum moisture retention for plant
uptake, whilst facilitating effective drainage and release of excessive water.
Improved irrigation efficiency
University studies have shown that hydrophobic soil treated with TriCure
AD requires as little as a third as much water to reach optimum moisture
levels. Water conservation benefits and cost savings associated with
reduced irrigation levels can be expected from programmed applications
DEW CONTROL | DEWCURE
DewCure
REDUCING DISEASE | DEW CONTROL
DewCure Reducing disease
DEWCURE IS A LONG LASTING, DEW CONTROL PRODUCT, SPECIFICALLY FORMULATED TO REDUCE THE
ACCUMULATION OF SURFACE MOISTURE ON TURF, INCLUDING DEW, GUTTATION FLUID AND LIGHT FROST.
DEWCURE – KEEPING SURFACES DRIER TO HELP REDUCE DISEASE INCIDENCE
DewCure forms a water-resistant, rainfast coating on the leaf surface that
Conclusive DewCure research data
In a second study, levels of anthracnose were measured after applications
suppresses the formation of moisture in the form of dew or guttation fluid.
It is clear that surface moisture plays an important part in the ‘disease
of DewCure.
Guttation fluid
Guttation fluid is water secreted on to the surface of leaves through
specialized pores, known as hydathodes. The process occurs most
frequently during conditions of high humidity when the rate of transpiration
is low. Drops of water found on grass in early morning are often the result
of guttation, rather than dew. (Guttation should not be confused with
dew, which condenses from the atmosphere onto the plant surface).
Treated
triangle’ of host – pathogen – environment. Adapting the environment
by maintaining drier turf, especially in times of expected disease pressure,
helps to reduce the incidence of disease. Field trials and end-user feedback
in the UK and Ireland have indicated slower establishment of
Fusarium and lower incidence through the susceptible periods of the
year when using DewCure. DewCure has also undergone extensive
university trials in the U.S. that highlight its ability to help minimize the
impact of turf disease.
The product’s effect upon the incidence of Dollar Spot was investigated
at Ohio State University.
Application Notes
It is important not to exceed the water volume shown and to apply to
dry turf. Allow DewCure to thoroughly dry on the leaf surface prior to
DewCure is significantly different from untreated control on all dates.
DewCure applications made at 14 d intervals beginning May 16.
irrigation or rainfall.
In the absence of any fungicides, an adequate level of control (i.e. less
than 10% disease) was observed in the DewCure-treated plots early in
the disease cycle at a time when the level of disease in the untreated
Untreated
Product
Application Rate (litres/ha)
Water Volume (litres/ha)
DewCure 6 400
checks (60%) had far exceeded an acceptable level. Although the level
of disease rose in the DewCure-treated plots over the course of the
summer, it never reached the level of disease in the untreated checks
and remained significantly lower on all rating dates.
Longevity
The longevity of DewCure is a function of two main factors – the rate of
mowing frequency (removing leaf tissue treated with DewCure) and the
growth rate following application.
Best results are obtained prior to or during colder spells of weather when
the level of clipping removal and new growth / leaf formation is at its
lowest. Trials have shown that DewCure provides from 1 week to 3 weeks
longevity depending on the factors mentioned above.
Frost
DewCure increases the formation of ice crystals on the plant leaf rather than
in or on the soil surface and because the ice crystals are affected by air and
not soil temperature, frost may disappear quicker from treated areas.
Disease reduction
DewCure Key Points
• Reduces leaf moisture,
suppressing dew and
guttation fluid formation.
• Enhanced longevity over
conventional dew
suppressants.
• Faster drying times
following rain or irrigation.
• Drier surfaces can result in
less disease.
DewCure was significantly different from untreated check on all dates.
All applications made at 14 d intervals beginning September 2.
DewCure significantly suppressed dollar spot by 75% or more during
the course of the study when compared to the untreated control.
The level of control provided by DewCure in this trial was statistically the
same as the level of control provided by the standard contact fungicide
included in the study. The authors noted no difficulty mixing or spraying
DewCure and no phytotoxicity was observed.
DewCure maintains dry surfaces prior to Aeration and top-dressing
All aspects of aeration and top-dressing become more difficult if the
operations have to be carried out on wet greens. Top-dressing sticks to
the leaf instead of moving down into the turf surface and causes damage
to mower cutting blades. In addition, core harvesting is both a longer
and messier process when the turf surface is damp or wet.
Using DewCure before aeration or topdressing can reduce the problems
associated with the process by eliminating turf moisture caused by dew
and guttation. The drier surface allows faster and cleaner aeration and
quicker return to ideal playing conditions after topdressing by enabling
sand to better work into the turf canopy, rather than sticking to the leaf.
Application
Use DewCure at its normal rate of 6L/ha in 400L of water. (It is important
to maintain a 1.5% dilution)
The activity of damaging foliar diseases like Fusarium Patch (Microdochium
nivale) and Dollar Spot (Sclerotinia homoeocarpa) is positively linked with
conditions conducive to high leaf moisture levels and therefore by
reducing this level, disease activity is suppressed. DewCure can be used
on all types of turf including golf greens, approaches, tees and fairways,
cricket squares and winter sports pitches.
• Quicker recovery from frost.
• Reduced labour and
drier cutting.
Pack size: 10 litres
Make a pretreatment application 1-2 days before aeration and/or topdressing.
The shorter the interval between application and aeration, the
better the results.
DewCure will continue to suppress dew and frost for a period of time
after the operation (duration will be dependent on grass removal by
mowing and / or new growth emergence).
PESTICIDES | FUNGICIDE
Throttle
DISEASE MANAGEMENT | INFORMATION
Disease Management
THROTTLE HAS BEEN SPECIFICALLY DEVELOPED TO PROVIDE ULTIMATE CONTROL OF FUSARIUM PATCH IN ALL
MANAGED TURF AREAS.
OF ALL THE TURF DISEASES REQUIRING SPECIFIC MANAGEMENT PRACTICES, FUSARIUM NIVALE IS BY FAR THE MOST
AGGRESSIVE, WITH SUSTAINED ACTIVITY DURING THE AUTUMN /WINTER AND ALSO DURING COOL, WET SUMMERS.
Winter use of Throttle
Throttle combines two highly active fungicides, each with a different mode
of action – Prochloraz, a translaminar, and Tebuconazole, a systemic.
Together they provide a high level of disease control in all types of
established turf. Stand-alone treatments of Throttle have proven to be
successful even under the cool conditions of late autumn and early
spring. Where growth is limited by temperature, a systemic /contact mix
featuring iprodione with Throttle can be used on a 3-4 week interval.
Where to Use
Throttle is approved for use on managed amenity turf including sportsturf
such as golf greens and tees, bowling greens and sports pitches, as
well as lawns (in commercial and residential situations) Apply Throttle to
established turf only.
Throttle Key Points
• Liquid formulation for efficient curative
or preventative control of Fusarium Patch.
• Provides outstanding results if applied before,
or at the early stages of disease establishment.
• Tankmixable with contact fungicides for
efficient, long term control.
• User experience has shown good control of
Red Thread disease.
• Throttle contains 267 g/l Prochloraz and 133 g/l
Tebuconazole.
• User-friendly 0.85L, half ha pack.
Systemic Fungicide Choice
Where turf is rapidly growing and being mowed, duration of protection
may be affected where leaf penetrant only fungicides are used.
Throttle is an ideal choice of product under these conditions as part of
the formulation can be taken into the plant via its roots and moves
upwardly to rapidly protect from within. This provides longevity of effect
even when clippings are removed by mowing.
One of the key factors affecting this disease is the recent change in our
autumn season with respect to warmer and wetter periods of weather,
extending deep into what was traditionally winter. Nowadays it is not
unknown for the UK & Ireland to experience mild weather with temperatures
typically in the early-mid teens right through to December.
Throttle combines two highly active fungicides in one formulation –
Prochloraz and Tebuconazole. Recent experience has shown the
translaminar action of Prochloraz to be extremely efficient when soil
temperatures are above 12°C, avoiding the need to include an expensive
supplementary fungicide in the mix. Longevity of control is provided
by root uptake of the Tebuconazole portion of the formulation.
Preventative Fungicide Application
Headland Throttle @ 1.7L/ha
in 500L of water
Tipping the balance away from disease development
Besides applying pesticides, other management practices can have a
negative impact on the development of Fusarium and prevent it
becoming necessary to spray. Maintaining a healthy grass plant by
priming its natural defence mechanism (SAR) using plant elicitors,
strengthening cell wall structure and maximising photosynthesis by
optimising potassium, calcium and iron availability all contribute positively.
Headland has perfected an extremely effective tankmix combination in
the fight against Fusarium.
It is important to rotate different active ingredients to minimise the risk
of resistance building up within the target organism. It is not advisable
to reduce the rate of systemic fungicides as part of a systemic / contact
tankmix, as this may increase the risk of resistance to that active ingredient
and will also shorten the longevity of protection.
High soil temperature and soil / leaf moisture levels favour the development
and spread of Fusarium and, therefore, management practices
should be geared to stop the establishment of a high fungal population
early in the autumn by applying preventative fungicide such as Headland
Throttle. Failure to do so often results in successive, repeated applications
of costly contact fungicide to try and slow the population growth.
Dew & Disease Development
Plant leaf moisture and the production of guttation fluid on the leaf tip
are two key factors that favour the development of a number of turf
diseases including Fusarium Patch, Dollar Spot, Brown Patch and
Anthracnose Foliar Blight. Guttation fluid is an exudate from the grass
plant containing water, sugars and fertiliser salts and acts as a food
source for pathogenic fungi. It follows therefore, that by preventing dew
formation and guttation fluid sitting on the tip of the leaf (see above)
that disease movement from plant to plant will be slowed. Application
of Headland Dewcure monthly from October to December prevents
due formation for up to three weeks and is rainfast soon after application
assuring longevity of response.
• Can be used on all established amenity grassland.
• Also controls some woody weeds.
Pack Size: 1L
Relay Turf has justifiably become a market leader due to its superior
effectiveness in amenity situations.
It is highly active against a wide range of broad leaved weeds in both
fine and coarse turf.
Relay Turf contains 200g/L Mecoprop-P, 200g/L MCPA and 25g/L Dicamba
Application
Apply when soil is moist and
weeds are actively growing.
Most weeds will be controlled by
a single application, however
certain species and weeds that
have over-wintered or have become hardened by cold weather or poor
growing conditions may be less susceptible, and need re-treatment.
General
A nitrogen fertiliser application, 7-14 days before treatment will aid
weed control.
Do not apply to grass suffering from drought, during freezing conditions or
when rain is imminent. Newly sown or turfed areas should not be treated
in the year of establishment. Maximum number of treatments per year - 2.
Weed and feed treatment
Relay Turf can be tank mixed with Headland Xtend soluble and liquid
fertilisers to feed turf and kill weeds in one application.
Treat in the spring when the docks are in the
rosette stage up to 25cm high. If the grass has
been cut leave for 2-3 weeks to allow sufficient
re-growth to occur before spraying. On large
well established docks, or where there is a high
reservoir of seed in the soil, a second dose the
following year may be required.
Spray when actively growing but before
flowering spikes are 15cm high. For thistles
beyond this stage the rate should be increased
to 4.0 L/ha. Applications of BLASTER
flowering or during seeding is likely to produce
reduced levels of control. If grass has been cut
treat 2-3 weeks after cutting when sufficient
regrowth has occurred.
Control is achieved using very low rates of active ingredients, making
Cabadex the obvious choice for SAFE and environmentally sensitive
weed management in the UK.
Mode of action
Cabadex combines two active ingredients with different modes of action.
Fluroxypyr is an auxinic herbicide that enters plants via the leaves and
disrupts normal growth functions.
Florasulam however, can enter via the roots as well as the foliage,
helping to ensure complete distribution throughout the plant.
Application equipment
Cabadex can be applied through tractor mounted hydraulic sprayers or
knapsack sprayers as MEDIUM spray as defined by the BCPC system.
Areas of use
Cabadex can be used on areas of managed amenity turf or amenity
grassland. This includes golf courses, winter sports pitches, racecourses
and professional lawn care as well as airfields, roadside verges and
embankments.
Safe on young turf
The product can be used on newly sown turf from the two leaf stage for
spring or summer sowings. A good covering of grass should be present
before application.
Application notes
Apply when weeds are actively growing (normally between March and
October). Do not apply in periods of drought unless irrigation is applied.
Re-seeding can take place as little as 4 weeks after application. Clippings
from grass treated with Cabadex can be safely used for mulch after the
third cut. Use of Cabadex is not subject to
LERAP restrictions. Where Broad-Leaved
Plantain is present in addition to the target
weeds, apply a tank mix of Cabadex at 2
litres/ha + 2 litres/ha of an amenity
approved 2,4-D amine product.
* Moderate control only
Trials and commercial use have also shown
good control of Yellow Suckling Clover.
TOTAL HERBICIDES | PESTICIDES
THE FIRST NATURAL BASED NON- SELECTIVE HERBICIDE FOR AMENITY & INDUSTRIAL WEED CONTROL IN THE UK.
NEW NOW APPROVED FOR MOSS CONTROL ON HARD SURFACES
Natural Weed Spray from
Headland Amenity is the
first NATURAL non-selective
herbicide for amenity
and industrial weed
control in the UK.
The active ingredient –
acetic acid – has been
formulated from the
highest food grade
product and developed to produce a formulation suitable for controlling
a wide range of weeds and grasses.
What is it?
Natural Weed Spray contains 240g/litre acetic acid as a soluble concentrate.
Acetic acid occurs naturally through fermentation processes and breaks
down to water, so is safe to the environment. It is the first herbicide to be
approved for use on hard surfaces in the UK for many years.
How does it work?
Natural Weed Spray is a non-selective herbicide with extremely fast
activity and is active against most soft plant tissue it comes in contact
with. It controls both grasses and broad-leaved weeds. The product
produces discolouration and browning of the foliage within a few hours
of treatment and during warm sunny weather most plants die within
1-2 days. The product can be used year round. Perennial weeds generally
require more than one application to control but annual weeds are
usually controlled with one treatment.
Areas of Use
Natural Weed Spray can be used to control weed growth in amenity
situations such as footpaths and pavements, parks, around trees, shrubs
and hedges and in industrial areas such as railways, industrial sites and
fence lines etc. It is approved for moss control on hard surfaces such as
footpaths and tennis courts. Unlike other moss killers for hard surfaces,
Natural Weed Spray No1 will also control weeds and grass as well,
eliminating the need for a separate application.
Application
MAPP No. 12328.
Apply the spray so that leaves and stems are fully wetted before run-off.
As the product works by contact action it is important that the weed is
fully covered otherwise there will be partial control. The product is not
translocated within the plant and therefore is safer to use around trees,
shrubs and other valuable plants. Repeat treatment as required.
Mixing
Mix 1 part Natural Weed Spray to 3 parts of clean water. For example in
a 16 litre knapsack sprayer mix 4 litres of Natural Weed Spray to 12 litres
of water in the following manner:
• Half fill spray tank with clean water
• Add the required amount of Natural Weed Spray
• Fill the tank with more clean water to the required level
• Agitate before use
Weather
The product can be used year round. Applications made in cooler
months will take longer to work. In warm sunny weather most weeds
will die within 1-2 days. Apply the product on a dry day. Rain, soon after
spraying, may wash spray off the foliage leading to poor results.
Subsequent Planting
As there are no residual effects with the product in the soil, sowing and
planting may be undertaken as soon as the weeds have died.
Intake
SUPER SIGNAL IS A NON-TOXIC, SUPER CONCENTRATED, SPRAY PATTERN INDICATOR.
SPRAY PENETRANT AND ACIDIFIER
Super Signal Key Points
• Super concentrated spray pattern indicator.
• Provides excellent indicator properties at
very low inclusion rates.
• Typically used from 100ml – 250ml
per 100L of spray solution.
• Non-toxic, degraded by
ultra-violet light.
Super Signal eliminates waste due to spray overlap and indicates drift
and potential nozzle blocking, a key function with the increasing use of
shrouded booms. Super Signal dissipates with sunlight or moisture and
will not permanently stain vegetation, soil or human skin.
Super concentrated formula – Low inclusion rate
Super Signal is an extremely concentrated spray pattern indicator.
During the product assessment period, field trials showed that the
inclusion rate can be significantly reduced when compared with many
competitor indicators.
For the first usage, Headland Amenity suggest using Super Signal at the
same inclusion rate as your normal pattern indicator to gauge just how
concentrated the formulation actually is. Rate adjustment can then be
made to achieve the required depth of colour.
Based on Propionic acid, Intake is a powerful penetrant designed to
enhance pesticide performance under difficult conditions.
It is also widely used to acidify (lower pH) spray solutions where alkaline
water can cause tank mix problems.
Intake Key Points
• Helps pesticide penetration
during cold weather.
• Penetrates waxy leaf
surfaces and difficult to
control weeds.
NPK NUTRIENT | INFORMATION
Fertilisers Planning your NPK nutrient input
TRANSPORT ULTRA IS NEW CLASS OF WATER CONDITIONER FEATURING A NON-IONIC SURFACTANT,
WATER-CONDITIONING AGENTS AND AMMONIUM IONS IN A CONVENIENT PREMIX FORMULATION.
TO ACCURATELY PLAN TURF FERTILISER INPUT IT IS IMPORTANT TO KNOW HOW MUCH ACTUAL NUTRIENT IS BEING APPLIED
IN ANY GIVEN TREATMENT AND OVER THE COURSE OF A SEASON. THIS CAN BE CALCULATED IN THE FOLLOWING WAYS;
Traditional spray tank acidifiers merely reduce
spray tank pH by adding hydrogen ions to the
spray solution, however this has no effect on
the hardness of the water. Transport Ultra
reduces both spray tank water pH and hardness,
providing significant benefits over traditional
acidifiers. To understand these, it is first necessary
to understand what is meant by ‘water hardness’.
About Water Hardness
Water Hardness is a method of classifying water
in terms of its calcium and magnesium content
and is expressed as an equivalent of calcium
carbonate. Soft water contains low levels of calcium and magnesium,
whereas hard water contains higher levels, as well as typically - bicarbonate.
Calcium, magnesium and bicarbonate ions are known to react in the
spray tank solution with many pesticide active ingredients, making them
less available, by a process known as alkaline hydrolysis. Transport Ultra
sequesters (locks up) calcium, magnesium and bicarbonate ions,
preventing them from reacting with the pesticide added to the spray
tank. In addition, Transport Ultra ‘protonates’ (imparts a positive charge)
to the materials added to the tank, making them more available to the
grass plant, resulting in faster uptake and translocation. The difference
between the mode of action of Transport Ultra and a traditional spray
tank acidifier (based on Propionic acid) is shown below in actual analysis
results of a hard water sample.
Usage Notes
In order to increase the efficacy of a spray application, Transport Ultra
should always be added to the spray tank first before the active
ingredient(s). If a water sample has not been taken prior to the application
to determine the effective dosage rate of Transport Ultra, Headland
Amenity suggest using a 0.25% dilution in relation to the spray volume.
Fertiliser analyses and inputs are
expressed in elemental form for
nitrogen (N), but in oxide form
(P2O5 & K 2O) for phosphorus and
potassium.
To calculate actual elemental input;
To convert P2O5 to elemental P
- multiply by 0.44
To convert K 2O to elemental K
- multiply by 0.83
This can be useful when considering
other constituents of fertilisers. For
example, many granular fertilisers
contain high levels of sulphur (S)
expressed in the oxide form (SO3).
To convert SO3 to elemental S,
– multiply by 0.4.
WATER SOLUBLE FERTILISERS
Water Soluble fertilisers are treated
as granular fertilisers.
However, where application rates are
in kg / ha, use the following formula:
Granular Fertilisers Formula
To calculate the kg of nutrient applied per hectare, use;
Application rate (in g/m 2 ) x % Nutrient content/10
Example:
An application of Multigreen 30-5-14 (6-7 month release)
applied at 40g/m 2
40 x 30/10 = 120kg of N per hectare
40 x 5 /10 = 20kg of P2O5 per hectare
40 x 14/10 = 56kg of K2O per hectare
Water Soluble Fertilisers Formula
Application rate (in kg/ha) x % nutrient content / 100
Example:
An application of Solufeed Hi-K 13-0-45 water soluble fertiliser
applied at 40kg/ha.
40 x 13/100 = 5.2kg N per hectare
40 x 45/100 = 18kg K2O per hectare
Jet Black EZ Solupak NATURAL EFFECT LAKE DYE
Jet Black EZ Solupak is a blend of environmentally friendly, non-toxic,
watersoluble black dyes formulated to reduce sunlight penetration.
Use can help to control algae and submerged weeds by blocking light
and thus reducing photosynthesis .
Jet Black imparts a natural black colour when applied to any water feature.
The Jet Black EZ SoluPaks are protected by a unique, waterproof, foil
lined over-pack to prevent accidental staining when handling.
Jet Black Key Points
• Black, reflective colour.
• Helps combat algae and submerged weeds
• Unique packaging that eliminates the risk of staining during handling
• Non-toxic
Application
Jet Black is packed in cartons containing 6 x 148gm EZ Solupak sachets.
Each carton will treat 7400m 3 of water in total. Water temperature and
convection will influence dissolution and dispersion of Jet Black. High
levels of chlorine in the water may reduce the longevity of Jet Black.
LIQUID FERTILISERS
Liquid fertilisers present a different
challenge. It is essential to know
the Specific Gravity (S.G.) of the
product to work out nutrient content.
To calculate the kg of nutrient
being applied per hectare, use:
Liquid Fertilisers Formula
Application rate (in litres per hectare) x Specific Gravity of
the liquid = W and then
W x % nutrient content/100
Example:
An application of 15-0-12 liquid applied at 100 litres per
hectare. (S.G. = 1.36)
100 x 1.36 (Specific Gravity) = 136
136 x 15/100 = 20.4kg N per hectare
136 x 12/100 = 16.3kg K2O per hectare
