MULTIGREEN IS A POLYMER RESIN COATED, CONTROLLED RELEASE FERTILISER THAT PROVIDES A CONSISTENT 

RELEASE OF NUTRIENTS FOR UP TO 6-7 MONTHS, GOVERNED BY SOIL TEMPERATURE ALONE 

Where to use Multigreen 

There are four types of Multigreen 

Multigreen 6 2 7 

6 to 7 month response. For use on coarse turf areas cut at 10mm or above, 

including sports pitches, golf tees and fairways. 


4 to 5 month response. For use on coarse turf areas cut at 10mm or above, 

including sports pitches, golf tees and fairways, as well as professional 

lawncare. 

Multigreen Fine 

5 to 6 month response. Ideal for close mown areas maintained at 6mm 

or above, such as golf tees, surrounds or approaches. 

Multigreen Mini 

For use on fine turf areas including golf and bowling greens. 5-6 month 

response.

How it Works... 

After application, 

the Multigreen 

prill takes up 

moisture over a

A small portion of the nitrogen is uncoated for initial release. 

Nutrients are released as soon as the soil temperature rises above 6ºC. 

Release carries on through the growing season according to the soil 

temperature only – if it drops, so does the release rate. At the end of the 

products release period, the 

nutrients are totally exhausted 

and the granule degrades.

This consistent, more predictable 

feeding, results in denser turf, increased root development, 

less clippings and a stronger, healthier sward. 

The Multigreen prill releases nutrient slowly into the 

rootzone, which is quickly utilised by the plant. This 

means that leaching is minimised and the nutrients are 

used more efficiently than with conventional fertilisers. 

Multigreen utilises potassium nitrate technology in its 

formulations. This provides a sulphur free source of easily 

available nitrogen and plant strengthening potassium. 

MULTIGREEN 6–7 month formulations are ideal 

for all coarse turf areas. As release is governed by 

temperature alone, nutrients are available to the 

grass plant in the correct amount, at the right time. 

The benefits of this approach include increased 

turf safety when applying to non irrigated areas, 

minimal leaching during excessive rainfall, and 

consistent growth that withstands wear and 

generates good sward thickness. 

MULTIGREEN 4–5 month fertilisers feature all the 

benefits above, but releases over a slightly shorter 

period. Nutrient release is not increased during wet 

weather, avoiding ’flush’ growth when it is difficult 

to cut treated areas. Lower application rates provide 

a cost effective solution to feeding large areas with 

minimal leaching, consistent response and 

less clipping generation. 

MULTIGREEN FINE features a smaller prill suitable 

for use on close mown areas such as some golf 

tees, green surrounds and approaches. It contains 

a potassium nitrate fast start portion that will 

encourage gentle, hard growth under cooler 

conditions. 

MULTIGREEN MINI is a prilled fertiliser for fine 

turf areas. The dense prills fall to the base of the 

sward and incorporate into the soil surface. They 

provide a gentle but consistent release of 

nutrients over 5–6 months. Again, nutrient 

release is dependent on soil temperature alone. 

Multigreen Mini 12-0-44 is a 

unique, mini-prilled, controlled 

release fertiliser that works for 

up to 6 months over the autumn 

and winter periods, on all types 

of turf areas. Multigreen 

12-0-44 is really 3 products in 1. 

1. It contains a high potassium fast 

start portion for initial response in 

the autumn. 

2. The controlled release portion then 

kicks in and provides release of small 

amounts of nitrogen (but always 

three times as much potassium)

3. As soil temperatures rise in the 

spring, then gentle release starts 

again to provide an early, cool 

season response. 

Because Multigreen 12-0-44 contains 

nitrate nitrogen and more than 3 

times as much potash, (both in 

controlled release form) a strong, 

hardened plant is maintained 

through the winter and an early 

spring start achieved. 

As the controlled release of nutrients 

in Multigreen is governed by soil 

temperature alone, excessive rainfall 

has no effect whatsoever. 

Controlled release potassium 

Uncoated forms of potassium in standard fertilisers, quickly solubilise 

and can be rapidly leached from the rootzone. This limits the beneficial 

effects of this nutrient – especially in cooler soils. Some Multigreen formulations 

however, feature controlled release potassium. The coated 

potassium source releases gradually, regulated by soil temperature only, 

maintaining availability over a long period. The potassium in Multigreen 

will continue to be available even during wet seasons, long after conventional 

sources have been exhausted.

How it works 

Headland Xtend uses UFLEXX® stabilized 

nitrogen technology. Each urea prill is treated 

with two soluble chemical coatings to; 

1. Prevent loss of nitrogen to the 

atmosphere (volatilisation) 

Untreated urea is prone to volatilisation, resulting 

in loss of applied nitrogen and causing 

severe scorch under certain climatic conditions 

2. Slow down nitrogen conversion 

in the soil. 

This means that the nitrogen stays in 

outfield type soils much longer, as it 

binds more easily to clay and organic 

matter particles. Because of this, it is 

more resistant to leaching and will 

provide a response under cool 

conditions.

Xtend 46-0-0 Granular contains two key 

components that increase nitrogen efficiency. 

Firstly, the volatilisation inhibitor (NBPT) 

prevents loss of nitrogen to the atmosphere 

as ammonia, a gas linked to the formation of 

particulate matter in the atmosphere. Then 

the nitrification inhibitor (DCD) slows down 

the conversion of ammonium nitrogen to 

nitrate nitrogen, thereby keeping it in a form 

that is less likely to be leached from the rootzone. 

This combination of NBPT and DCD with 

urea, increases the efficiency of the applied 

nitrogen, providing improved turf safety and 

extended release with low leaching potential.

SUITABLE FOR ALL COARSE TURF AREAS INCLUDING RACECOURSES AND SPORTS PITCHES, BLAUKORN IS A 

CONVENTIONAL OUTFIELD TURF FERTILISER THAT BUILDS ON THE PROVEN NITROPHOSKA TECHNOLOGY 

Blaukorn is a new, quick release granular fertiliser range designed for use 

on golf course fairways, rough, tees, approaches, surrounds, sports pitches, 

polo grounds and racecourses. A successor to Nitrophoska, Blaukorn 

features a number of key improvements and is available in two analyses. 

Spring Starter - Blaukorn® N-Max 24-5-5+2MgO+5S+Micronutrients 

Blaukorn 24-5-5is formulated for use as a spring starter for outfield turf 

with its high nitrogen analysis. All of the nitrogen present is immediately 

available to the grass plant, so response is rapid even at low application rates. 

High Analysis – Low Application Rate Flexibility 

Blaukorn 24-5-5 can be applied as low as 20g/m 2 and this still offers 48kg 

of nitrogen per hectare, - the equivalent to applying a traditional 9-7-7 

analysis at over 50g/m 2 . A lower application rate means fewer bags applied 

per hectare, involving less storage, transportation and manpower. 

Blaukorn 15-3-20+2MgO+10S+Micronutrients 

Blaukorn 15-3-20 is formulated for use as either a low nitrogen spring 

starter or as a traditional autumn / winter, high-potassium fertiliser for 

outfield turf. As with Blaukorn N-Max, all of the nitrogen present is 

immediately available to the grass plant, so response is rapid even at low 

application rates. The higher potassium analysis ensures hard growth 

results after application and typically 25g/m 2 will provide sustained 

feeding for 6-8 weeks when applied in October or March 

Optimum Granule Characteristics 

The granulation of Blaukorn has been refined, compared to the original 

Nitrophoska product and now 90% of the granules are between 2.0 – 4.0mm, 

with the average granule size range between 2.8 and 3.4mm. This provides 

optimum spreading characteristics whether applied through a pedestrian 

or tractor-mounted spreader. Granule breakdown is also exceptionally fast 

due to the use of more highly soluble raw materials. As an added benefit, 

the granules are dyed blue to increase visibility during application. 

Optimum Nutrient Package 

Both Blaukorn analyses feature immediately available ammonium and 

nitrate nitrogen, derived from ammonium nitrate and ammonium sulphate, 

to ensure a fast turf response even during cool spring and autumn temperatures. 

The phosphorus content is derived from phosphoric acid for 

quicker availability to the grass plant and the potassium from sulphateof 

potash for maximum turf safety. Blaukorn products also feature the 

important secondary plant nutrients - sulphur and magnesium as well 

as micronutrients, boron, iron and zinc. 

Low Salt Index 

Many outfield fertilisers utilise potassium chloride as their potassium 

source, but although cheaper, this has a higher scorch risk to the grass 

plant. Scorch risk is measured by the salt index of the fertiliser, - the 

higher the salt index, the higher the scorch risk. Potassium chloride has 

a salt index of 116, whereas potassium sulphate (the form used in Blaukorn) 

has a salt index of only 46 In practice this can be up to 60% safer to the 

grass plant.

Multiverdo’s formulation of potassium nitrate contains no sulphur and 

nearly 50% oxygen as part of its chemical structure. The nitrate nitrogen 

contained in Multiverdo requires no conversion in the soil before being 

available to the plant making it ideal for use while soil temperatures are 

low, during the autumn and spring, promoting growth and recovery, 

particularly after aeration.

The easy to see, white micro-prills make application extremely straightforward 

and once applied, they quickly dissolve, eliminating pick up

Why Multiverdo Miniprill is beneficial for Black Layer 

The high oxygen and low sulphur 

accumulations of organic matter. When this occurs, oxygen is unable to 

move freely through the soil profile (Note –oxygen moves through 

water at only 1/10,000th of the rate it moves through air) and eventually 

the grass plant experiences a lack of oxygen known as hypoxia. 

Hypoxic stress is a growing feature of golf turf as our changing climate 

features heavy rainfall over short periods of time, severely testing the 

physical properties of rootzones. At the same time, the microbial balance 

in the soil shifts away from organisms that respire oxygen to those that 

use nitrate and/or sulphur (so called sulphur-respiring bacteria) leading 

to soil denitrification and the production of toxic hydrogen sulphide 

gas. To correct anaerobic conditions and hypoxic stress, a number of 

measures can be undertaken including;

Naturvigor – Composted Organic Base 

The incorporation of a composted organic base to three new analyses in 

the Greentec range uses Naturvigor, an aerobically-composted cow 

manure, fortified with humic acid. The addition of this material to each 

analysis provides an organic nitrogen fraction, stimulates microbial activity 

and enhances root development. 

Slow-Release Organic Potassium 

In some products, the potassium source is derived from Kali Vinasse, a 

potash-rich sugar beet pulp. Bound in an organic complex, potassium is 

released slowly by microbial activity and with a 1:2 nitrogen – potassium 

ratio, the resulting growth produces a tough grass leaf, resilient to stress 

and disease. 

Depending on the product, up to four different 

forms of nitrogen feature in Greentec fertilisers. 

This provides optimum response over a wider range 

of conditions. 

Rapid breakdown 

The granule is formulated to break down quickly 

after application, on contact with moisture, 

minimising disruption to play and maintenance

Greentec 14-2-6+2MgO+Fe+2.7% Humic Acid 

Greentec 14-2-6+2MgO+Fe is formulated as a spring starter and utilises 

three different nitrogen sources to ensure rapid, but sustained results. 

Sulphate of ammonia provides the immediate green up and the initial 

response is then sustained by the addition of both urea and organic 

nitrogen. Colour and growth are enhanced by the addition of magnesium 

and iron to the formulation. Particle breakdown is rapid, minimising pick 

up and the fine granulation also allows application down to 15g/m 2 , 

when only a small nitrogen input is required. 

Greentec 13-3-13+MgO+2.7% Humic Acid and Methylene Urea 

Greentec 13-3-13+MgO is formulated as a summer granular fertiliser to 

provide safe and sustained feeding, even during cool, wet periods of 

weather. The product features four different forms of nitrogen. The first, 

ammonium sulphate, provides the initial release and low-temperature 

response. This is enhanced to provide 6 weeks longevity, by three longer 

-term nitrogen forms, urea, methylene urea and organic nitrogen. Granule 

breakdown is rapid, minimising pick up and like the other Greentec analyses, 

the fine granulation allows low application rate flexibility, down to 15g/m 2 . 

Ideal for application Pre-Anthracnose Disease Period 

Greentec 13-3-13+MgO is ideally suited to a light-rate application in 

July, just prior to the main anthracnose disease pressure period to 

enhance growth and provide good levels of plant vigour. Research has 

shown that one of the most effective ways of preventing Anthracnose is 

to raise plant nitrogen levels just prior to the main disease period.

Greentec 6-5-18 provides excellent rapid response, even at low soil 

temperatures, producing sustained colour without soft, disease prone 

growth. It achieves this by utilising both ammonium and nitrate 

nitrogen in its formulation. Both are immediately available to the plant 

without the need for prior conversion in the soil by bacterial activity. 

Greentec 6-5-18 is ideal for use in the autumn/winter and also as a 

spring starter. 

Balanced analysis fits leachate research identified requirement. 

Many turf rootzones feature a high sand content as a result of initial 

construction or from accumulated top dressing. Leachate trials 

conducted by Headland Amenity and confirmed by soil analyses, 

show that after the winter, such rootzones are often low in phosphorus 

starter or a low temperature hardener on all areas 

of amenity turf where prolonged colour, but not 

growth is required. 

Apply after cutting to allow the maximum time to 

treat the moss before re-cutting. Water-in if applied 

during dry, hot periods. Avoid applying during 

rainfall or frost. Remove from hard surfaces immediately 

to avoid staining.

Solufeed NK 15-0-25 is a new water-soluble formulation featuring a 

combination of technical grade sulphate of ammonia combined with 

potassium nitrate and magnesium. Sulphate of ammonia has a number 

of benefits as a water- soluble component including; excellent low 

temperature availability, surface acidification and enhanced solubility. By 

using potassium nitrate, Solufeed NK 15-0-25 offers optimum low temperature 

response by supplying both ammoniacal and nitrate forms of

LIQUID FERTILISERS THAT CONTAIN THE UNIQUE SLOW RELEASE NITROGEN SOURCE – TRIAZONE – A MECHANISM 

PROVEN IN THE UK CLIMATE OVER THE LAST DECADE. 

Headland N-Sure 28-0-0 and Trisert KS 15-0-12 both contain significant levels 

of Triazone and provide a significantly greater longevity of response than 

when using conventional liquids. N-Sure and Trisert KS are extremely safe and 

have an inherently lower scorch risk compared to other liquid and soluble 

fertilisers. This means that watering-in of Triazone based products is not 

necessary from a safety angle – unlike many other liquid fertilisers which 

may require supplementary irrigation. The slow release properties of 

Triazone provide gradual nitrogen availability to the plant, reducing the 

amount of clippings produced and producing growth characteristics – 

even when comparatively large amounts of nutrients are applied.

NATURVIGOR IS A FAIRWAY GRADE SOIL IMPROVER CONTAINING COMPOSTED COW MANURE AND HUMIC ACID IN A 

GRANULAR FORMULATION. IT IS DESIGNED TO ENRICH SOIL MICRO FLORA AND ENCOURAGE ROOT DEVELOPMENT. 

The high organic matter (32.5%) and humic acid (18.1%) content make 

this product ideal for use on impoverished, sandy soils. Naturvigor also

Aerobic Composting 

A two stage composting process is used to produce Naturvigor. Firstly, 

the cow manure is turned frequently, over a period of 5–7 months to

Then the final phase of composting takes place under cover, to protect 

the beneficial bacteria present from the harmful effects of UV rays.

The bioactive seaweed extract is processed soon after harvesting to

Amino Acid Content 

The benefits of using seaweed extracts as foliar and root drench applications 

are well established on sports turf, but with Seamac Ultra Plus, the 

formulation is greatly enhanced by the presence of plant available 

amino acids. 

Amino acids are involved in numerous functions that facilitate healthy 

plant growth including shoot and root development, nitrogen transfer 

within the plant, chlorophyll production and protection against 

pathogens to name but a few. 

Enhanced Growth in Stress Situations 

When a plant is growing normally it uses energy produced during the 

photosynthetic process to produce amino acid. However, when it is under 

stress, the efficiency of this process can be severely reduced leading to a 

decrease in the amount of amino acids produced. 

Application of amino acids from an external source, (e.g. Seamac Ultra Plus) 

when a plant is under stress, stimulates growth and recovery. Fundamental

Foliar application is especially effective in stimulating chlorophyll 

production when the plant is under stress as the plant can struggle to

The low molecular weight of the amino acids in Seamac Ultra Plus, are also

Turfcomplex exploits the synergistic effect of seaweed combined with 

humic acid to meet the twin objectives of improved root mass and 

reduced plant stress. 

The latter is achieved by stimulating antioxidant production to scavenge 

or prevent the formation of free radicals - a process known to reduce 

plant stress levels. 

Turfcomplex contains Algifol®, a concentrated extract of brown algae, dried 

and refined through an ultra low temperature process which concentrates 

the contained growth stimulants, enzymes and amino acids, without 

damaging their effectiveness. 

Turfcomplex also contains high levels of activated humic and fulvic acids 

to promote root growth. At 40 litres per hectare, Turfcomplex supplies 

the research-identified optimum rate (1.75kg per hectare) of humic acid. 

To maximise root hardiness, Turfcomplex contains an elevated level of 

chelated manganese, and at full rate, supplies the research - identified 

optimum requirement. 

This high level of manganese is also beneficial in alkaline soil scenarios 

where the additional content of chelated iron and micronutrients in Turfcomplex 

ensures complete micronutrient availability, even at high pH levels.

To Irrigate or not to Irrigate? 

During dry Spring months, it is the surface layer of the rootzone, typically 

the top 2” (5cm) that dries out and therefore only light syringing irrigation 

or localised hand-watering is necessary to rectify the problem. There is 

often a concern over any reduction in soil temperature (and consequently 

growth) caused by early irrigation. In fact, field trials conducted by 

Headland Amenity have shown this affect to be short-lived, lasting only 

1-2 hours at most. Failure to rectify surface dessication can lead to 

growth suppression in its own right and hasten the onset of Poa annua 

seedhead formation by putting the plant under stress. 

Apply TriCure AD early – Pre-Stress Conditioning 

To ensure that the rootzone is receptive to light irrigation and / or rainfall, 

it is vitally important to apply Tricure AD wetting agent early in the year, 

before the rootzone begins to dry out. Prevention is always better than 

cure when dealing with hydrophobicity. Headland Amenity suggests 

commencing applications in early to mid-March at 7 – 10 litres per 

hectare and repeat on a monthly basis, ideally combined with a bioactive 

biostimulant, such as Turfcomplex. (see below)

The pictures on this page show typical turf damage by pathogenic 

nematode species on managed turf areas. Assuming that the plant is 

already damaged by stress, there is a need to try and stimulate recovery 

of new root and shoot tissue. As with pre-stress conditioning, there are a 

number of materials that can help achieve this, either by providing the 

building blocks of plant growth, as is the case with amino acids, or by 

stimulating the plants natural defense mechanism (SAR) using plant 

elicitors such as Harpin or Phosphite.

TeMag HPE is a three-in-one, water soluble product, containing 10% 

chelated iron, a full range of chelated micronutrients and the unique 

plant elicitor – Harpin protein. 

As the diagram (bottom right) shows, Harpin works by stimulating the 

plant to grow under the general effects of stress. In the case of stress 

caused by fungal attack it can minimise the overall damage and effect 

of turf disease. Harpin itself does not enter the plant or directly affect 

the pathogenic fungus. Instead it binds to specialised receptors on the 

plant leaf and triggers physiological processes within the plant itself that 

elicit an increased growth and vigour response. 

Harpin was initially developed for the agricultural market where it has 

shown itself to promote yields and, most importantly, maximise the efficacy 

of fungicide treatments by encouraging stronger, healthier growth. 

The mode of action of Harpin is complemented in the TeMag HPE 

formulation by the addition of chelated iron and magnesium for 

enhanced colour (photosynthesis) and a full range of micronutrients to 

prevent potential deficiencies limiting growth.

There are many grades of soluble iron on the market, but this product 

demonstrates superior solubility in water volumes as low as 300 litres 

per hectare. 

The high solubility and cost effectiveness of Headland Soluble Iron also 

makes the product ideally suited for use on large areas, such as golf 

fairways or sports pitches, in combination with liquid fertilisers and / or

Phosphite (as opposed to phosphate) is a form of phosphorus that has 

some unique properties when applied as a fertiliser. It is extremely 

mobile within the plant and, once absorbed, undergoes an oxidation 

process that provides a continual release of soluble phosphorus. 

Secondly, phosphite, unlike phosphate, does not react with calcium in 

high pH, alkaline rootzone situations, to be rendered unavailable to the 

grass plant. 

Lastly and most importantly, phosphite triggers the plant’s own immune 

system, providing benefits of stress resistance and improved overall 

plant health, particularly during periods of high disease pressure. 

How to use 

Turfite can be used in a tank mix combination with Solufeed Hi-K and / 

or Seamac ProTurf to provide a perfect low temperature tonic for the

XL Fairway 

AXIS IS A GRANULAR SOIL AMENDMENT PRODUCT THAT INTRODUCES NON-COMPACTING PORE SPACE INTO 

PROBLEM ROOTZONES. 

The product is calcined (heated to around 1800°C) to create 

a stable and durable particle that is resistant to breakdown. Its internal 

pore structure helps overcome problems such as compaction and black 

layer by introducing air filled porosity (oxygen) into the rootzone. In 

poorly draining soils, Axis helps to increase percolation rates, moving 

water through the soil profile. On free draining soils with low CEC, Axis 

acts to retain water and nutrients to promote continued growth in 

adverse conditions. 

Once applied, Axis becomes a permanent part of the rootzone. Use AXIS: 

• On compacted soils with poor oxygen content 

• Badly draining soils 

• Soils that have black layer or anaerobic conditions 

• Sandy soils that dry out too rapidly.

The ‘Tri’ in Tricure 

Tricure contains three different surfactant chemistries that 

treat all types of rootzone particles,such as soil and sand, 

as well as organic matter, including peat and thatch. 

This multi-molecular approach provides 3 distinct characteristics, 

and advantages over single molecule wetters. 

1 Adhesion to various surfaces including plant lignin and 

cellulose, attracting water molecules and facilitating water

In a second study, levels of anthracnose were measured after applications

Guttation fluid 

Guttation fluid is water secreted on to the surface of leaves through 

specialized pores, known as hydathodes. The process occurs most 

frequently during conditions of high humidity when the rate of transpiration 

is low. Drops of water found on grass in early morning are often the result 

of guttation, rather than dew. (Guttation should not be confused with 

dew, which condenses from the atmosphere onto the plant surface).

Longevity 

The longevity of DewCure is a function of two main factors – the rate of

Best results are obtained prior to or during colder spells of weather when 

the level of clipping removal and new growth / leaf formation is at its 

lowest. Trials have shown that DewCure provides from 1 week to 3 weeks 

longevity depending on the factors mentioned above. 

Frost 

DewCure increases the formation of ice crystals on the plant leaf rather than 

in or on the soil surface and because the ice crystals are affected by air and 

not soil temperature, frost may disappear quicker from treated areas.

the course of the study when compared to the untreated control. 

The level of control provided by DewCure in this trial was statistically the 

same as the level of control provided by the standard contact fungicide 

included in the study. The authors noted no difficulty mixing or spraying 

DewCure and no phytotoxicity was observed. 

DewCure maintains dry surfaces prior to Aeration and top-dressing 

All aspects of aeration and top-dressing become more difficult if the 

operations have to be carried out on wet greens. Top-dressing sticks to 

the leaf instead of moving down into the turf surface and causes damage 

to mower cutting blades. In addition, core harvesting is both a longer 

and messier process when the turf surface is damp or wet. 

Using DewCure before aeration or topdressing can reduce the problems 

associated with the process by eliminating turf moisture caused by dew 

and guttation. The drier surface allows faster and cleaner aeration and 

quicker return to ideal playing conditions after topdressing by enabling 

sand to better work into the turf canopy, rather than sticking to the leaf. 

Application 

Use DewCure at its normal rate of 6L/ha in 400L of water. (It is important 

to maintain a 1.5% dilution) 

The activity of damaging foliar diseases like Fusarium Patch (Microdochium 

nivale) and Dollar Spot (Sclerotinia homoeocarpa) is positively linked with 

conditions conducive to high leaf moisture levels and therefore by 

reducing this level, disease activity is suppressed. DewCure can be used 

on all types of turf including golf greens, approaches, tees and fairways, 

cricket squares and winter sports pitches.

Winter use of Throttle 

Throttle combines two highly active fungicides, each with a different mode 

of action – Prochloraz, a translaminar, and Tebuconazole, a systemic. 

Together they provide a high level of disease control in all types of 

established turf. Stand-alone treatments of Throttle have proven to be 

successful even under the cool conditions of late autumn and early 

spring. Where growth is limited by temperature, a systemic /contact mix 

featuring iprodione with Throttle can be used on a 3-4 week interval.

Systemic Fungicide Choice 

Where turf is rapidly growing and being mowed, duration of protection 

may be affected where leaf penetrant only fungicides are used. 

Throttle is an ideal choice of product under these conditions as part of 

the formulation can be taken into the plant via its roots and moves 

upwardly to rapidly protect from within. This provides longevity of effect 

even when clippings are removed by mowing. 

One of the key factors affecting this disease is the recent change in our 

autumn season with respect to warmer and wetter periods of weather, 

extending deep into what was traditionally winter. Nowadays it is not 

unknown for the UK & Ireland to experience mild weather with temperatures 

typically in the early-mid teens right through to December. 

Throttle combines two highly active fungicides in one formulation – 

Prochloraz and Tebuconazole. Recent experience has shown the 

translaminar action of Prochloraz to be extremely efficient when soil 

temperatures are above 12°C, avoiding the need to include an expensive 

supplementary fungicide in the mix. Longevity of control is provided 

by root uptake of the Tebuconazole portion of the formulation.

Tipping the balance away from disease development 

Besides applying pesticides, other management practices can have a 

negative impact on the development of Fusarium and prevent it 

becoming necessary to spray. Maintaining a healthy grass plant by 

priming its natural defence mechanism (SAR) using plant elicitors, 

strengthening cell wall structure and maximising photosynthesis by 

optimising potassium, calcium and iron availability all contribute positively. 

Headland has perfected an extremely effective tankmix combination in 

the fight against Fusarium. 

It is important to rotate different active ingredients to minimise the risk 

of resistance building up within the target organism. It is not advisable 

to reduce the rate of systemic fungicides as part of a systemic / contact 

tankmix, as this may increase the risk of resistance to that active ingredient 

and will also shorten the longevity of protection.

Dew & Disease Development 

Plant leaf moisture and the production of guttation fluid on the leaf tip 

are two key factors that favour the development of a number of turf

Anthracnose Foliar Blight. Guttation fluid is an exudate from the grass 

plant containing water, sugars and fertiliser salts and acts as a food

Dakar Pro is a dust free, extruded, water soluble granule with excellent 

handling characteristics. 

The granules dissolve easily and are completely cold water soluble. 

Each 10kg pack will treat up to 40,000m 2 (4 hectares). The design of the 

resealable packs ensures that they can be emptied completely with 

no rinsing. 

The new Accelerator surfactant technology combined with the high 

loaded glyphosate gives a more efficient and rapid uptake as well as 

faster transport throughout the plant and down to the roots. 

Waste packaging 

Dakar Pro gives a massive 97% reduction in waste packaging compared 

to standard glyphosate products. In addition, as the product does not 

require triple rinsing, there are significant time savings compared to liquid 

formulations. Working on 2 minutes to triple rinse an ordinary glyphosate 

container - a pallet of empty containers would take over 5 hours to 

triple rinse in order to comply with waste regulations. 

How to use the product 

Glyfos Dakar Pro is easily measured out with a calibrated jug. The cold 

water soluble grains dissolve readily and there is no mess with dripping 

cans or spillage.

Natural Weed Spray from 

Headland Amenity is the

The active ingredient – 

acetic acid – has been 

formulated from the 

highest food grade 

product and developed to produce a formulation suitable for controlling 

a wide range of weeds and grasses. 

What is it? 

Natural Weed Spray contains 240g/litre acetic acid as a soluble concentrate. 

Acetic acid occurs naturally through fermentation processes and breaks 

down to water, so is safe to the environment. It is the first herbicide to be 

approved for use on hard surfaces in the UK for many years. 

How does it work? 

Natural Weed Spray is a non-selective herbicide with extremely fast 

activity and is active against most soft plant tissue it comes in contact 

with. It controls both grasses and broad-leaved weeds. The product 

produces discolouration and browning of the foliage within a few hours 

of treatment and during warm sunny weather most plants die within 

1-2 days. The product can be used year round. Perennial weeds generally 

require more than one application to control but annual weeds are 

usually controlled with one treatment. 

Areas of Use 

Natural Weed Spray can be used to control weed growth in amenity 

situations such as footpaths and pavements, parks, around trees, shrubs 

and hedges and in industrial areas such as railways, industrial sites and 

fence lines etc. It is approved for moss control on hard surfaces such as 

footpaths and tennis courts. Unlike other moss killers for hard surfaces, 

Natural Weed Spray No1 will also control weeds and grass as well, 

eliminating the need for a separate application. 

Application

Apply the spray so that leaves and stems are fully wetted before run-off. 

As the product works by contact action it is important that the weed is 

fully covered otherwise there will be partial control. The product is not 

translocated within the plant and therefore is safer to use around trees, 

shrubs and other valuable plants. Repeat treatment as required. 

Mixing 

Mix 1 part Natural Weed Spray to 3 parts of clean water. For example in 

a 16 litre knapsack sprayer mix 4 litres of Natural Weed Spray to 12 litres 

of water in the following manner: 

• Half fill spray tank with clean water 

• Add the required amount of Natural Weed Spray 

• Fill the tank with more clean water to the required level 

• Agitate before use 

Weather 

The product can be used year round. Applications made in cooler 

months will take longer to work. In warm sunny weather most weeds 

will die within 1-2 days. Apply the product on a dry day. Rain, soon after 

spraying, may wash spray off the foliage leading to poor results. 

Subsequent Planting 

As there are no residual effects with the product in the soil, sowing and 

planting may be undertaken as soon as the weeds have died.

Traditional spray tank acidifiers merely reduce 

spray tank pH by adding hydrogen ions to the 

spray solution, however this has no effect on 

the hardness of the water. Transport Ultra 

reduces both spray tank water pH and hardness, 

providing significant benefits over traditional 

acidifiers. To understand these, it is first necessary 

to understand what is meant by ‘water hardness’. 

About Water Hardness 

Water Hardness is a method of classifying water 

in terms of its calcium and magnesium content 

and is expressed as an equivalent of calcium 

carbonate. Soft water contains low levels of calcium and magnesium, 

whereas hard water contains higher levels, as well as typically - bicarbonate. 

Calcium, magnesium and bicarbonate ions are known to react in the 

spray tank solution with many pesticide active ingredients, making them 

less available, by a process known as alkaline hydrolysis. Transport Ultra 

sequesters (locks up) calcium, magnesium and bicarbonate ions,

results of a hard water sample. 

Usage Notes 

In order to increase the efficacy of a spray application, Transport Ultra 

should always be added to the spray tank first before the active 

ingredient(s). If a water sample has not been taken prior to the application 

to determine the effective dosage rate of Transport Ultra, Headland 

Amenity suggest using a 0.25% dilution in relation to the spray volume.
