not in thy mortal flesh understand what passed in my<br />

soul in contemplating <strong>the</strong> holy Church. In addition <strong>to</strong><br />

what thou hast unders<strong>to</strong>od already, thou wilt see more,<br />

if thou consider what moved my heart; namely, <strong>the</strong><br />

loving works of my divine Son in <strong>the</strong> interest of <strong>the</strong><br />

holy Church; <strong>the</strong>y should be thy meditation day and<br />

night; for in what He did for <strong>the</strong> Church, thou wilt be<br />

able <strong>to</strong> estimate his love <strong>to</strong>ward it. In order <strong>to</strong> be its<br />

Head and <strong>the</strong> Chief of <strong>the</strong> predestined in this world<br />

and forever (Col. 1, 18; Rom. 8, 29), He descended from<br />

<strong>the</strong> bosom of <strong>the</strong> eternal Fa<strong>the</strong>r and assumed flesh in my<br />

womb. In order <strong>to</strong> regain his children (Luke 19, 10),<br />

lost through <strong>the</strong> first sin of Adam, He <strong>to</strong>ok passible and<br />

suffered most cruelly, shed his blood accepting a most<br />

painful and frightful death on <strong>the</strong> Cross (Phil. 2, 8).<br />
