serve Her. When he saw Her so afflicted and sorrow<br />

ful, he was filled with consternation and asked permis<br />

sion <strong>to</strong> speak, saying<br />

&quot;My Lady and Mo<strong>the</strong>r of my Lord<br />

Jesus Christ, since our Master died I have never seen<br />

on thy countenance such grief and sorrow as now, when<br />

thy face and thy eyes are ba<strong>the</strong>d in tears of blood. Tell<br />

me, Lady, if possible, <strong>the</strong> cause of this new affliction,<br />

and whe<strong>the</strong>r I can alleviate it at <strong>the</strong> cost of my The<br />

Thou canst moderate thy tears. Although it is not just,<br />

that we forget what He suffered for men, yet<br />

right that we rejoice in <strong>the</strong> blessings following upon his<br />
