into this busy and sinful wcrld, and have endeavored,
by prayer and effort, to do the will of Him, whose one
great mission was to go about doing good.

F YOU love God, you will keep His commandments.
That is the visible proof of charity. Love can not
rest in words-it must go out into action. If
you love God, you will do something for Him. Love
is ingenious at finding ways in which to show itself. It
manifests itself in acts of praise, in acts of self-denial,
in acts of kindness to God's other creatures. Love
without works is dead.
RARACTER is the product of daily, hourly actions,
and words, and thoughts; daily kindnesses, sacrifices
for the good of others, struggles against temptation,
submissiveness under trial. Oh! it is these, like
the blending colors in a picture, or the blending notes
of music, which constitute the man.
Saints are men of character. A man has cha~actei;
when he is conscientious; when he is not moved by
every passing impulse or feeling hut by a fixed will to
do always what is right and good; when he does not
go where it is easiest to go, but where it is his duty to go;
when he controls his passions; when he has the moral
courage to stand up for his religious convictions.
