74 A New Virtue<br />

Children, particularly boys, need to be studied and<br />

understood. They need to he treated justly, but kindly.<br />

The tolerant fa<strong>the</strong>r and mo<strong>the</strong>r who try to undeistand<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir children are too few. They want to drive <strong>the</strong><br />

boys, whereas <strong>the</strong>y should ra<strong>the</strong>r try to lead <strong>the</strong>m. It<br />

is of very little use for parents to prcach <strong>the</strong> virtues to<br />

children while <strong>the</strong>y <strong>the</strong>mselves disregard <strong>the</strong>m. If you<br />

would have children just and kind, well-mannered and<br />

truthful, be all <strong>the</strong>w things yourself first. These virtues<br />

practised by <strong>the</strong> parents, and insisted upon kindly and<br />

firmly from <strong>the</strong> children, are what go to make up that<br />

which truly deserves to be called "a good home." - The<br />
