HE Sovereign Pont8s who have so gloriously occupied
35 the chair of St. Peter in later days havk enriched
with great indulgences this tender devotion, in 6rder to
stimulate the faithful to its practin.
In virtue of a c&ession of Pope Gregory XVI we
may gain an hhlgehce of po days w each of the lint
six Sundays, and a plenary ind@ence on the seventh
Suaday, for saying the pray- of the Seven Sorrows and
Joys of St Joseph on any seven consecutive Sundays 04
the year.
On February I, 1847, Pope Pius IX, of holy memory,
wishing to extend this devotion, added to the indulgences
already granted a plenary indulgence on eaehsunday, applicable
to the souls m purgatory.
On March az of the same year his Haliess extended
this indulgence to those who, owkg to sople g d cause,
being unable to recite the prayers of the Seven Sorrows
and Joys of St. Joseph, say seven Our Fathers, seven
Hail Marys, and seven. Glorias, fulfilling the usual conditions
for gaining a plenary indulgence; namely, confession,
communion, and prayers for our holy mother the
Church.
The Sovereign Pontiff, P b VII, Da. r8$g, granted
an hddgence of rw days, wee aday: an indulgeace 4
po days, every Wednesday in the pear, and on every day
of the two novenas precedbg the, fwts of St. Joseph,
vra, the principal feast, March 19, and the feast of the
patronage, the third Sunday after Easter.. A plenarx
indulgence, on these two feasts,.to all those who, morewer,
being truly penitent, shalt hsve gone to confession
