We repeat the comment made previously, that it is not
necessary, nor always psible, nor even desirable, to say all
the prayers according to the methods of assisting at Bdasd
found in a prayer-book. These prayers at Mass are merely
suggested to the pious reader as an aid to devotion. Other
prayers may be substituted, especially acts oi adoratioq
thanksgiving, reparation, and pet~tion, such as are found in
this book, in honor of the Blessed Sacrament and the Sacred
Heart 06 Jesus. Vary pur devotions. The Rosary. and in
particular the Euchar~st~c Rosary, t ether with a litany, or
some other indulgenced prayers a s ejaculations, may be
mated with o6t to oneself as well as to the poor souls in
pur atory. & you may form your own pra ers. Speak to
GJ from your heart ; or you may read a Ett~e from your
prayer-book, and then mcditate for a wide, thus combining
mental and vod prayer. Dwell on any point that suggests
particularly pious thoughts, affections, and good resolutions.
ESUS, my merciful Saviour! I present myself
3 before Thy altar for the pur ose of assisting at
the holy sacrifice of the Mass. e 'desire to assist at
it with the same reverential awe, thd same tender
compassion with which my heart would have been
filled had I beheld Thee in the Garden of Gethsemani,
or on Mount Calvary, where Thou didst
offer Thyself to Thy heavenly Father for love of
me. Give Thy blessing, 0 Lord, to this my desire,
and infuse into my soul those holy dispositions
