s short sentence is often seen inscribed upon
calendars. It is a constant injunction to attd
promptly to present duties.
The motto is a good one for the new year. There
is a great fascination about the unknown future and
the dismnt past. "Distance lends enchantment to
the view." Some are occupied with vain regrets for the
"good old times," now gone forever. Others are
looking eagerly forward to the days that are to
come. There is danger lest the value and meaning
of to-day be entirely fo men. We need the sharp
reminder "Do it now." %o not put ol till to-morrow
what can be and ought to be done to-day.
"Ever keep in mind thy end," says Thomas 2 Kempis.
"and that time lost returneth no more." Take
to heart the following admonition froni "The Little
Treasury of Leaflets" :
" At the falling of another,
Be it friend or be it brother,
Never sneer, and ne'er deride,
Help the weak and conquer pride.
"Let no good hy thee be marred,
Let no duty seem too hard,
In all things bravely do your best,
And then to God we'll leave the rest."
