THE OFFICIAL NEWSLETTER OF THE
OFFICE OF THE VCAR
3. The VCFAS clarified that credit card payment without charge applies to the
total enrollment assessment fee. Summer is on April 25-May 31.
February 9, 2011
1. In relation to ELGA, the VCAR announced that the focus of the Lasallian
Congress is on curriculum standards.
2. HRMO announced that ID lace and ID jackets may be charged to the office
supplies budget on a one-time basis, as advised by the Controller. Replacement
however, in case of loss, shall be shouldered by the faculty concerned.
3. Lasallian Festival T-shirts and dog tags are still available for purchase.
4. The LLC proposal on Folk Life program has been approved. It was advised
to coordinate with concerned departments regarding CELTA and the
online Journal
5. The revised IFS guidelines have been approved. The online IFS shall start
next SY.
6. The guidelines for crediting of subjects have been approved with revisions.
7. The USC proposal on mascot design contest has been approved in principle.
9 February 2011
1. Faculty members, whose papers submitted to the Search for Outstanding Faculty are incomplete, shall be disqualified. It was
clarified however that if items on the scoring sheet were not allotted points, no attachment or supporting document is expected.
Also, guidelines shall be reviewed taking into consideration the weights given and the ceiling set.
2. The following shall be looked into in preparation for the next Faculty Recognition: briefing of emcee, pacing in the announcement
of names, decorum of waiters, rehearsal, motif, criteria for on-the-spot awards, and messages given.
3. As clarified, transferees who have completed nine (9) units of English subjects from their previous school shall not be required to
take ENGL100. However, they shall be required to take the English Language Ability Test (ELAT), failure from which would
result in mandatory 30-hour English module, and another round of test. Should the transferee still fail, the LLD and concerned
departments shall be advised about the language ability status of the transferee. ELAT shall be implemented first week of June.
In relation, it was also emphasized that even non-credit subjects shall be considered in the awarding of scholarships and honors.
4. Faculty evaluation instruments have been approved for immediate implementation.
5. As a clarification the VCAR cited Glickman, Gordon, & Ross (1995): Supervision of Instruction that “clinical” entails an assistance given to
teachers in terms of reviewing and even modifying patterns of teaching. It assumes that such is done and offered in a collegial way. It requires
pre-conference with teacher, observation of the classroom, and post conference (in which observation is interpreted by both teacher and observer).
The members of the Chairs’ Forum may consider this non-invasive observation technique: MODIFIED STUDENT ON-TASK
AND OFF TASK BEHAVIOR – observer focuses on the students and observes the class following areas as on-task or off-task.
6. The members are one with the opinion that the current process in bidding and purchasing need to be revised. The process should
have the chairs involved from start (planning and designing) to end (completion of work of delivery of material). It was also emphasized
that prices should be presented even before projects are awarded.
7. Reprogramming of the Communication in the Workplace Context for Graduates (formerly EPP) is based on the results (Basic
Word Proficiency) of TOEIC of the graduating students. Starting next SY, the program shall be held three consecutive days.
(MTW) and lessons shall be calibrated based on the discussions of the content subject.
