Ben Spies best rookie of the year
While Casey Stoner again proved that he ruled
supreme on the Phillip Island circuit (4 th consecutive
win), Ben Spies, the rider of the Monster Yamaha Tech
3 Team was once again in the limelight.
The real revelation of the season, the best rookie 2010
indeed clinched a Top 5 position for the fifth time of the
season. This excellent result confirms the potential of
this peerless rider discovered by Yamaha and who has
already announced that he will be signed up next year
in the official Fiat Yamaha stable.
As for the other Motul riders, the results are not quite as
brilliant with Colin Edwards (Monster Yamaha Tech 3)
and Alvaro Bautista (Rizla Suzuki) who respectively secured
7 th and 12 th places. Mention must also be made
of the big fright for ‘Mr 315 th Grand Prix’ in other words
Loris Capirossi who suffered a bad fall during the
qualifyings and was unable to participate in the race
because of an injury to his left adductor. Currently
undergoing physiotherapy, he should be back before
the last round of the season at Estoril.

2010 MOTUL TITLES
The last of the 11 rounds of the US World Challenge
took place a fortnight ago at the Miller Motorsport Park
(Utah). This event was in fact merely a formality for the
DG-Spec team since the young pilot Robert Stout has
been champion (TC class) since the beginning of September
at the race at Virginia Speedway, California.
Once again winner, this last race of the season was
therefore that of merrymaking for Dan Gardner and his
team, who can also be proud of having won the team
title and above all for having given the Scion brand
(launched in 2002 by Toyota) its first car racing title!

Uruguayan Superbike
Motul, partner of the Uruguayan SBK!
Located on the left bank of the Río Negro, Mercedes
is usually a quiet little Uruguayan town of 43,000 inhabitants.
Capital of the Soriano region since 1857, this
historical town is now unexpectedly known throughout
the country for... its racetrack!
It was indeed on the ‘Autodromo Mercedes’ track that
the 2010 edition of the local Superbike event took
place on 24, 25 and 26 September past! Living up
to its values, Motul could not fail to be present on this
occasion to promote its products to motorbiker fans.
Through its importer in the country, it was therefore
one of the main partners of the event.
Wishing on this occasion to share their passion for
two-wheelers with their public, the best Mercosur
riders competed in eight distinct categories, including
of course Superbike.

Bobryshev champion… without competing!
We tend to forget but, during the Cold War, a good
number of Russian riders were at the top of the World
Motorcross leaderboard. The young Evgeny Bobryshev
embodies the young generation that once again wants
to honour the Russian flag. And ‘J-Bob’, as he is nicknamed,
has done so by becoming the new English
Motorcross champion in the MX1 category!
At barely 22 years of age, the rider of the CAS Honda
Team, of which Motul is a technical partner, has pulled
off a quite simply amazing season! With no less than
11 rounds won out of the 21 run, he squashed the
competition except for Stephen Sword who, on the
eve of the last round, was merely 30 points behind the
Russian.
On the other hand, and despite the efforts of the
organisers to maintain the Hawkstone Park event, the
English climate decided otherwise. With more than
25mm of rainfall in the single morning of 3 October,
the decision to cancel the event was taken a few hours
before the race. As the final battle between the two
leaders did not take place, it was therefore Evgeny
Bobryshev who was declared Champion without even
rolling his bike out!

Abdo Feghali / Mitsubishi Lancer Evo
The Feghali brothers, riding the crest of the wave!
In the Feghali family, car rallies are more than a passion,
they’re a religion! 47 year old Roger is their first
disciple. Something of a local star, he is known throughout
the country of the cedar tree as the first Lebanese
to have particpated in WRC (6 participations and
2 class podiums). He has more than 35 event wins and
48 class wins to his name.
Never far off, Abdo, the ‘little brother’ is the second
faithful follower. After promising beginnings in 1998,
he too has an impressive track record with, inter alia,
5 overall wins, 25 podiums, 14 class wins and 3 participations
in the legendary ‘Race of Champions’.
In this context, the two brothers pulled off an almost
perfect season, lining up podiums after podiums. After
exchanging his Mitsubishi Lancer Evo at the beginning
of the season for a brand new Skoda Fabia S2000,
Roger indeed won his
8 th Rally of Lebanon (7 th
consecutive win). As for
Abdo, he finished his
2010 season with no less
than two national titles in
his pocket (hill climbing
and slalom)!
These pilots embody more than anyone else the
‘Motul spirit’ and so it was natural that Motul joined
forces with the Motortune Team several years ago.

Organised by the ‘Automotoclub Storico Italiano’ and
Alfa Romeo from 21 to 26 September 2010, the second
edition of the Giro d’Italia (‘Tour of Italy’) celebrated
this year the centenary of the Italian brand with a snake.
For the occasion, no less than 25 Alfa Romeos
recounting 50 years of production were entered in this
event reserved for vintage cars. In the midst of the patriotic
fervour, many owners of Ferraris, Lancias and
Fiats also turned up.
Among the other ‘works of art’ on the departure line,
a 1930 Chevrolet Universal, a 1934 Bugatti 57 Ventoux
and a very rare 1952 2500 Riley Salon were
particularly noticed by the admirers of fine pieces of
engineering. Whether in Rome (departure), Sorrento
(arrival) or in the many stage towns (Ascoli Piceno,
Vieste and Salerno), many salesmen and Italian clients
were present to represent the Motul brand, a major
partner of the event.
Note should also be made of the huge means deployed
by the major manufacturers (BMW, Citroën,
Ferrari, Porsche, Maserati, Ford, Triumph, Mercedes…)
who wanted to take advantage of the passage of this
‘museum on the move’ to present their most prestigious
models to the public.
