European level <strong>on</strong> youth <strong>in</strong>formati<strong>on</strong> and <strong>on</strong> the implementati<strong>on</strong> of the ‘<strong>Youth</strong> <strong>in</strong><br />
Acti<strong>on</strong>’ programme was documented at nati<strong>on</strong>al level; and<br />
� the structures and services provided by youth associati<strong>on</strong>s are not sufficiently visible<br />
(Germany, Est<strong>on</strong>ia, Ireland, Norway). In some countries, however, the share of youth<br />
work provided by n<strong>on</strong>-public associati<strong>on</strong>s can be documented.<br />
In summary, the follow<strong>in</strong>g can be said about the data <strong>on</strong> the m<strong>on</strong>ey and time <strong>in</strong>vested <strong>in</strong><br />
youth activities:<br />
� <strong>in</strong> nearly all the countries surveyed, <strong>on</strong>ly amounts provided by the m<strong>in</strong>istries<br />
resp<strong>on</strong>sible for youth affairs or by European <strong>in</strong>stituti<strong>on</strong>s were identifiable;<br />
� the budgets c<strong>on</strong>tributed by other sources – e.g. employment and social affairs,<br />
health or sport – were not available for the present study;<br />
� <strong>in</strong> n<strong>on</strong>e of the countries surveyed, with the excepti<strong>on</strong> of Germany, was there any<br />
<strong>in</strong>formati<strong>on</strong> available at nati<strong>on</strong>al level <strong>on</strong> funds <strong>in</strong>vested at state or local level;<br />
� the time and m<strong>on</strong>ey <strong>in</strong>vested by youth organisati<strong>on</strong>s and other n<strong>on</strong>-public<br />
associati<strong>on</strong>s cannot be documented.<br />
The follow<strong>in</strong>g can be said regard<strong>in</strong>g data <strong>on</strong> the number of people employed:<br />
� some countries (Greece, Italy, Norway) have no aggregated data <strong>on</strong> youth workers at<br />
nati<strong>on</strong>al level;<br />
� the <strong>on</strong>ly well documented figure is the number of youth workers employed <strong>in</strong> public<br />
<strong>in</strong>stituti<strong>on</strong> and paid with public funds;<br />
� <strong>in</strong>formati<strong>on</strong> is available <strong>on</strong> the qualificati<strong>on</strong>s of youth workers and their employment<br />
relati<strong>on</strong>ships <strong>in</strong> those cases where basic data is collected <strong>on</strong> numbers of youth<br />
workers;<br />
� the number of youth work volunteers cannot be directly documented <strong>in</strong> any of the<br />
countries of the survey. If <strong>in</strong>formati<strong>on</strong> is available at all, it c<strong>on</strong>cerns data derived from<br />
studies <strong>on</strong> volunteer work and data <strong>on</strong> the ratio between paid and unpaid youth<br />
workers.<br />
The follow<strong>in</strong>g can be said with regard to the young people participat<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> youth work<br />
activities:<br />
� data <strong>on</strong> participants <strong>in</strong> <strong>in</strong>stituti<strong>on</strong>al activities is available for <strong>on</strong>ly a few of the countries<br />
surveyed (Est<strong>on</strong>ia, Germany, Romania);<br />
