social model learn<strong>in</strong>g from peers. With their range of profiles youth associati<strong>on</strong>s offer<br />

different possibilities for identificati<strong>on</strong> as their work is opti<strong>on</strong>al, voluntary, self-organised,<br />

lobby<strong>in</strong>g the <strong>in</strong>terests of youngsters and value-based.<br />

e) Preventi<strong>on</strong> of social exclusi<strong>on</strong>/youth social work 5 :<br />

<strong>Youth</strong> work aimed at the preventi<strong>on</strong> of social exclusi<strong>on</strong> encompasses counsell<strong>in</strong>g, support,<br />

educati<strong>on</strong>, tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g and employment opportunities for socially disadvantaged and/or<br />

<strong>in</strong>dividually impaired young people to support their social <strong>in</strong>tegrati<strong>on</strong>, their formal educati<strong>on</strong><br />

and their <strong>in</strong>tegrati<strong>on</strong> <strong>in</strong>to the labour market and/or adult life.<br />

f) Recreati<strong>on</strong> 6 :<br />

Play, recreati<strong>on</strong> and leisure services encourage and facilitate young people`s effective use of<br />

their leisure time. Leisure time activities may <strong>in</strong>clude games, sports, cultural events,<br />

enterta<strong>in</strong>ment and community service and aim to c<strong>on</strong>tribute to the development of the<br />

physical, <strong>in</strong>tellectual and potential development of young people. These activities provide<br />

youth specific socialisati<strong>on</strong> opportunities as well as space and opportunities to appropriate<br />

youth life <strong>in</strong> modern structured places. Recently preventi<strong>on</strong> and recreati<strong>on</strong>s aspects have<br />

ga<strong>in</strong>ed specific importance as they provide young people liv<strong>in</strong>g under difficult c<strong>on</strong>diti<strong>on</strong>s i.e.<br />

poverty recuperati<strong>on</strong> and regenerati<strong>on</strong> opportunities.<br />

g) <strong>Youth</strong> Counsell<strong>in</strong>g 7 :<br />

<strong>Youth</strong> counsell<strong>in</strong>g addresses young people and their youth-specific questi<strong>on</strong>s and problems.<br />

It provides them with <strong>in</strong>formati<strong>on</strong> and support based <strong>on</strong> professi<strong>on</strong>al counsell<strong>in</strong>g techniques<br />

and trespass-management to other <strong>in</strong>stituti<strong>on</strong>s. Counsell<strong>in</strong>g can cover school problems,<br />

career management and <strong>in</strong>serti<strong>on</strong> <strong>in</strong>to the labour market, crisis <strong>in</strong>terventi<strong>on</strong> <strong>in</strong> partnership or<br />

family-related problems, health and legal issues. It can be provided “<strong>on</strong> the doorstep”, <strong>in</strong><br />

specific counsell<strong>in</strong>g agencies or by teleph<strong>on</strong>e, e-mail or Internet.<br />

h) <strong>Youth</strong> <strong>in</strong>formati<strong>on</strong> 8 :<br />

<strong>Youth</strong> <strong>in</strong>formati<strong>on</strong> c<strong>on</strong>sist of comprehensive, coherent and coord<strong>in</strong>ated <strong>in</strong>formati<strong>on</strong> services<br />

that take account of the specific needs of young people and are youth friendly and<br />

ec<strong>on</strong>omically accessible. They are provided by youth <strong>in</strong>formati<strong>on</strong> centres or services and<br />

dissem<strong>in</strong>ated through all <strong>in</strong>formati<strong>on</strong> channels, particular those most frequently used by<br />
