This report focuses <strong>on</strong> the structures of youth work <strong>in</strong> these European countries as<br />

documented and reported by nati<strong>on</strong>al reports from the participat<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>stituti<strong>on</strong>s and experts.<br />

The first part of the report presents central comparative results regard<strong>in</strong>g<br />

� the def<strong>in</strong>iti<strong>on</strong>s of youth work;<br />

� the ma<strong>in</strong> fields of acti<strong>on</strong> of youth work and<br />

� the pathways to qualificati<strong>on</strong> of youth workers.<br />

On the <strong>on</strong>e hand this provides a structured comparis<strong>on</strong> of the ma<strong>in</strong> categories <strong>in</strong>fluenc<strong>in</strong>g the<br />

characteristics of youth work <strong>in</strong> every country. Particularly regard<strong>in</strong>g the ma<strong>in</strong> field of acti<strong>on</strong>,<br />

it also offers a first mutual framework for commitment <strong>on</strong> the central categories of youth work<br />

<strong>in</strong> an European c<strong>on</strong>text. Short qualitative descripti<strong>on</strong>s of the status of youth work <strong>in</strong> each<br />

country provide the opportunity to deepen the understand<strong>in</strong>g of the nature of youth work <strong>in</strong><br />

each nati<strong>on</strong>al c<strong>on</strong>text.<br />

The sec<strong>on</strong>d part of the report presents and analyses the available data about youth work at<br />

each nati<strong>on</strong>al level. It provides an overview of the report<strong>in</strong>g structures and rout<strong>in</strong>es <strong>in</strong> each<br />

country and identifies best practices <strong>in</strong> report<strong>in</strong>g. The data sources are presented; the scope<br />

of the available data is discussed as well as the reas<strong>on</strong>s for the lack of statistic material.<br />

As the categories of youth work are not comparable, the data available for each country is<br />

presented <strong>in</strong> separate tables. This gives an overview of the statistically reliable part of youth<br />

work and allows gaps to be identified.<br />

The third part of the report processes the data about youth work collected by each <strong>in</strong>stituti<strong>on</strong><br />

at local level and discusses the particularities of each country. This secti<strong>on</strong> exam<strong>in</strong>es the<br />

ma<strong>in</strong> statements made about the nature and scope of youth work and c<strong>on</strong>trasts them to the<br />

f<strong>in</strong>d<strong>in</strong>gs at nati<strong>on</strong>al level.<br />

Part four of this report c<strong>on</strong>ta<strong>in</strong>s the central f<strong>in</strong>d<strong>in</strong>gs and discussi<strong>on</strong>s l<strong>in</strong>es of the study<br />

regard<strong>in</strong>g<br />

� the significance of the data about youth work<br />

� the statistically educible nature and scope of youth work<br />

� the necessary structures and categories of report<strong>in</strong>g and<br />

� the favourable c<strong>on</strong>diti<strong>on</strong>s and c<strong>on</strong>stra<strong>in</strong>ts of documentati<strong>on</strong>.<br />

F<strong>in</strong>ally the last part of the report summarises some recommendati<strong>on</strong>s regard<strong>in</strong>g possible<br />

further acti<strong>on</strong> at European level. These recommendati<strong>on</strong>s are the result of the fruitful<br />

discussi<strong>on</strong>s of experts at the c<strong>on</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g c<strong>on</strong>ference held <strong>on</strong> 18 June 2007 <strong>in</strong> Strasbourg.
