Target group orientati<strong>on</strong> is another reas<strong>on</strong> why youth work is such a highly diverse field<br />

distributed am<strong>on</strong>g many competencies. While a number of <strong>in</strong>dividual fields of activity can be<br />

clearly allocated to youth work and identified as such, others, for <strong>in</strong>stance youth sport, youth<br />

vocati<strong>on</strong>al counsell<strong>in</strong>g and certa<strong>in</strong> areas of salutogenesis are not so clear-cut. There is<br />

therefore a need for<br />

� more <strong>in</strong>tensive cooperati<strong>on</strong> between fields of activity and stakeholders.<br />

Recommendati<strong>on</strong> 3<br />

As a result, we recommend:<br />

� str<strong>on</strong>ger cooperati<strong>on</strong> am<strong>on</strong>g stakeholders, particularly governments, youth<br />

associati<strong>on</strong>s and perhaps also professi<strong>on</strong>al groups to c<strong>on</strong>tribute to a comm<strong>on</strong><br />

documentati<strong>on</strong> of youth work, and<br />

� more <strong>in</strong>tensive cooperati<strong>on</strong> am<strong>on</strong>g the various sectors to identify and document those<br />

fields of activity of youth work that, as a result of differences <strong>in</strong> nati<strong>on</strong>al traditi<strong>on</strong>s, are<br />

not sufficiently visible and cannot be clearly allocated to youth work.<br />

The follow<strong>in</strong>g steps were identified at the expert workshop as be<strong>in</strong>g possibly useful towards<br />

implement<strong>in</strong>g these requirements:<br />

� encourag<strong>in</strong>g a greater <strong>in</strong>volvement of the European Knowledge Centre for <strong>Youth</strong><br />

Policy regard<strong>in</strong>g the collecti<strong>on</strong> of data the development of respective methods<br />

and the dissem<strong>in</strong>ati<strong>on</strong> of the results of various <strong>in</strong>vestigati<strong>on</strong>s and of relevant<br />

data;<br />

� promot<strong>in</strong>g a more <strong>in</strong>tensive professi<strong>on</strong>al debate <strong>on</strong> the def<strong>in</strong>iti<strong>on</strong> of c<strong>on</strong>cepts and<br />

the identificati<strong>on</strong> of <strong>in</strong>dicators at nati<strong>on</strong>al, European and <strong>in</strong>ternati<strong>on</strong>al level, and<br />

� complet<strong>in</strong>g data collecti<strong>on</strong> work so as to obta<strong>in</strong> the data shown by the present<br />

survey to be miss<strong>in</strong>g, to expand the exist<strong>in</strong>g, for <strong>in</strong>stance with regard to social<br />

<strong>in</strong>dicators of users of youth work, and, last but not least, to <strong>in</strong>tegrate more<br />

countries than those <strong>in</strong>cluded <strong>in</strong> the present study <strong>in</strong> the European<br />

documentati<strong>on</strong> of youth work.<br />
