Generally the differences <strong>in</strong> participati<strong>on</strong> <strong>in</strong> youth work between Oslo and Porsgrunn are<br />

small. The participati<strong>on</strong> rate for recreati<strong>on</strong>al activities, cultural activities, youth clubs and<br />

youth associati<strong>on</strong>s is a bit higher <strong>in</strong> Oslo than <strong>in</strong> Porsgrunn. The f<strong>in</strong>d<strong>in</strong>gs are difficult to<br />

<strong>in</strong>terpret because the survey <strong>in</strong> Porsgrunn was d<strong>on</strong>e four yeas before the <strong>on</strong>e <strong>in</strong> Oslo. The<br />

differences could result from the difference <strong>in</strong> time rather than from differences between the<br />

cities.<br />

More males than females participate <strong>in</strong> recreati<strong>on</strong>al activities, <strong>in</strong> youth clubs and <strong>in</strong> sports,<br />

whereas more females are <strong>in</strong>volved <strong>in</strong> youth associati<strong>on</strong>s and youth groups. Generally the<br />

differences are small.<br />

In general the rate of participati<strong>on</strong> for 15-19- year-olds is higher than for those aged 13-14.<br />

There are more younger participants <strong>in</strong> youth clubs and <strong>in</strong> sports than <strong>in</strong> the other<br />

categories.<br />
