plan and coordinate so many other people’s schedules.

in her office and for helping us with all of the business
aspects of the show.

Mrs. Rochwarger for filling our every request for thumbtacks,
printouts, cds, and so much more.
Thank you to Liat Segal, Yitzy Glicksman, Suzanne
Cohen and Sara Kinstlinger for your help with music

A HUUUGE thank you to Miriam Jacobson for assisting
in all aspects of the show, for accompanying us on piano
for multiple songs and for being there for us no matter

About Heartbeats

By 2008, our junior year in Ma’ayanot, we had already realized a couple of
things about our school. Firstly, we had an incredible amount of talent.
Our friends and peers awed us with the art they were able to create on paper,
with instruments, and with their physical movements. It was no secret
to us that students in our school were eager to express themselves creatively.
Secondly, during our time at Ma’ayanot we saw that our school played a significant
role not only in our own enducational and social lives, but also in its
service to the community at large. Mothers, siblings, and acquaintances frequented
our school for events ranging from shiurim to bake sales and boutiques.
The kind of energy that only happens at high school was something
that seemed to draw communal response. The idea for Heartbeats was born
when the three of us, along with the help of many dedicated friends, decided
that we wanted to run a fundraiser whose goal would be to raise money for a
cause close to home by showcasing the talent of or school to the broader
community.
The subtitle we ultimately gave to Heartbeats, after months of planning,
was A Night of Song, Dance, and Connection. The word “connection”
most accurately encompasses all that Heartbeats is about. Our goal was to
rally our talents in connection to something greater than ourselves, to work
tirelessly in order to ultimately connect to people who needed our help most.
We decided to raise the money for Sharsheret in honor of Shelly Goldberg, a
wonderful woman, mother, and friend who was suffering from breast cancer.
After the first production of Heartbeats, which raised $5,000 for Sharsheret,
we felt that sense of connection as we announced the grand total to
the audience and heard the collective cheer from all the people who had
worked together to bring the goal to fruition. At a time in our lives when we
and our peers were each busy thinking about our own college applications,
SAT scores, and extra-curricular résumé building , Heartbeats touted something
different - an opportunity to reach beyond ourselves. In addition to to
its success in accomplishing the mitzvah of tzedakah to a great degree,
Heartbeats also creates a tremendous sense of bonding within Ma’ayanot as
students share their talents and efforts in dedication to something greater.
After running Heartbeats for two successive years and watching it continue
to thrive, we’ve realized that this in itself stands on its own. To every student
who dedicated time to make this year’s Heartbeats possible, and to
every person who is to be a part of tonight’s event– yashar Koach on your
abilities to inspire and to connect.

Yad Eliezer has partnered with the Yad Gittel discount
houseware store and the Birkat Rachel Fund to
provide Israel's impoverished brides and grooms with
their needs to begin a home. Your tzedakah goes further
as poor brides are provided with Yad Eliezer Kol
Kallah vouchers to be redeemed for store items atnearly
cost price. Though some 250 couples received
vouchers this year, countless impoverished brides and
grooms must be turned away due to limited funding

The Happiest Day of my Life
From a Kallah who was helped by the Kol Kallah Bridal Fund
I am getting married... today.
Its 6:00 am, I'm staring at my ceiling, my eyes won’t shut, they haven’t
the whole night.
Last night I overheard my parents discussing that there isn’t enough
money to pay for the caterer or the hall. I’m hoping that today, the
biggest day of my life, doesn’t turn into my parents’ biggest nightmare.
Thinking back, I remember how just a few years ago, life seemed so
wonderful, my siblings and I felt like we had everything we needed –
and in retrospect, we did. Our life took a very difficult turn for the
worse when my older brother got sick with cancer, and my younger
brother, who suffers from a mental illness, was not doing well either.
Both of my parents were busy with my brothers, and slowly things in
our house started to crumble.
The urgency of the situation impelled me to get a job; I have been
cleaning floors everyday, but in truth what we really need is nothing
short of a miracle.
When we got engaged, my fiancé and I came to the conclusion that
despite the harsh financial situation that our parents were in, we
were going to be optimistic about our situation. Today is my wedding
day. I choose to live it in the greatest way I can.
The next day…
I got to see the light at the very end of my night.
It was past midnight, the wedding was beautiful and now it
was over. All of the guests had gone home, the hall was cleared
up, the chairs stacked and the owners were waiting… Suddenly my
younger cousin came running in calling my mother, “There’s a
woman outside. She’s looking for you and she said that she is from
Yad Eliezer.” My mother met a woman outside by the name of Milka,
who handed her a check and said, "Someone in America just donated
$2500 for a kallah and I couldn’t wait another day to give it you.
Mazal Tov!!"
