Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, <strong>Scholarship</strong>: Applicants must be an African American student,<br />

AMERICAN COLLEGE FOUNDATION VISIONARY SCHOLARSHIP: Applicants must<br />

be currently enrolled as a high school freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior and be a United<br />

States citizen or eligible non-citizen. Financial need is NOT considered; all income levels may<br />

apply. Awards range from $1,000 to $5,000 each; with multiple winners to be selected. Each<br />

award is a non-renewable, one-time award and is to be used to offset costs related directly to the<br />

student's first year of higher post-secondary education at an accredited college of the student's<br />

ASIAN PACIFIC COMMUNITY FUND – VERIZON SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: This<br />

program is for high school seniors in California, Oregon, or Washington planning to attend a 4-<br />

year college or university as a full-time, degree-seeking student majoring in math, engineering,<br />

or a technical science. Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 to be eligible.<br />

Fifteen $1,000 scholarships will be awarded. Applications are available at:<br />

AYN RAND’S ‘THE FOUNTAINHEAD’ ESSAY CONTEST: This contest is for high school<br />

students in 11th & 12th grades. Students must write an essay of 800 to1600 words that<br />

addresses one of three possible topics from the book, ‘The Fountainhead’. Cash prizes range<br />

AYN RAND’S ‘WE THE LIVING’ ESSAY CONTEST: This contest is for 10th, 11th, and<br />

BELLEVUE ALUMNAE CHAPTER’S DELTA SIGMA THETA SORORITY, INC.<br />

SCHOLARSHIP: This $1,500 award is for high school seniors that are college-bound women<br />

of African descent. Applicants must submit a resume, essay, two letters of recommendation, and<br />

Berol-Shindell <strong>Scholarship</strong>: The Berol-Shindell <strong>Scholarship</strong> was established to provide tuition<br />

scholarships to Jewish students in financial need who are currently attending or entering the<br />

University of Washington. The scholarship amounts vary depending upon the available funds<br />

for distribution and the overall financial needs of those applying. Applications are available in<br />

the Career Center. Application Deadline May 4, 2013.<br />

BOEING EMPLOYEES CREDIT UNION (BECU) FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS:<br />

Applicant must be a member of BECU, (establish a BECU savings account with a deposit of at<br />

least $5.00) and have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Selection is based on community/school<br />

involvement, leadership potential, and academic achievement. An essay and two letters of<br />

recommendation are required. Up to twenty-five $2,500 merit-based scholarships will be<br />

Careers That Work: Federal Way High School has five $1,000.00 scholarships to award<br />

students who will be attending a private career college, for example: Devry University, digiPen<br />

COLLEGE JUMPSTART SCHOLARSHIP: This merit-based competition is open to 10th,<br />

11th, and 12 grade students who are legal residents of the United States. The goal is to recognize<br />

students who are committed to using education to better their lives and that of their families<br />

and/or communities. Apply online at: www.jumpstart-scholarship.net. The award amounts are<br />

$1,500 for first place, $750 for second place, and $250 for honorable mentions. Deadline: April<br />

CONGRESSIONAL HISPANIC CAUCUS INSTITUTE SCHOLARSHIP: This scholarship<br />

is for Latino students with a history of performing public service-oriented activities in their<br />

communities who plan to continue with similar activities in the future. The scholarship is a one<br />

time award of either $1,000 at a community college or AA/AS granting institution or $2,500 at a<br />

4 yr college or university or $5000 to pursue graduate-level study. Students must be either US<br />

citizens or permanent residents. NOTE: Individuals who are seeking consideration under the<br />

“Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival” (DACA) policy must possess an Employment<br />

ELECTRONIC SECURITY ASSOCIATION OF WASHINGTON (ESA): This program is<br />

for graduating high school seniors of law enforcement and fire service personnel. To be eligible,<br />

the student must have a father, mother, or natural guardian who is a Washington State full-time<br />

member of the police or sheriff’s department or fire department. Selection is based on an essay,<br />

an official transcript, SAT/ACT test scores, college acceptance letter, proof of parent’s<br />

occupation, and a letter of recommendation. First place winner receives $1,500 and the second<br />

Fort Lewis Family Member <strong>Scholarship</strong>: You are eligible if you have a valid military ID card<br />

and – Are the immediate family member of an active duty Soldier assigned to or residing within<br />

a 50 mile radius of JBLM – Are a surviving family member of a Soldier last assigned to or<br />

residing within a 50 mile radius of JBLM –Are a family member of a retired Soldier residing<br />

FWEA “Future Teacher <strong>Scholarship</strong>”: Open to all seniors who are planning on pursuing a<br />

INCIGHT SCHOLARSHIP FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES: Incight provides<br />

scholarships that range between $500 and $2,500 for any student with a documented disability<br />

who plans to enroll as a full-time student at a trade school, college, or university for fall 2013.<br />

Three essays, two letter of recommendation, and documentation of your disability are required to<br />

It’s Always Something: Writing Contest that invites kids from grades 9-12 to share their stories<br />

about cancer in personal essays of 500 to 2,000 words. Their stories can be about their own<br />

experiences of personal diagnosis or about their experience with a diagnosis of a loved one, a<br />

schoolmate, friend, or perhaps even about cancer in the abstract as it relates to them.<br />

Applications are available in the Career Center. Application Deadline May 1 st<br />

Kiwanis Club of Federal Way’s Vocational/Technical <strong>Scholarship</strong>: Two awards of $750<br />

each that honor Joe and Donna Larson and Elwood and Gladys Berntson Applicants must seniors<br />

attending Federal Way Schools who will be graduating in 2013 and plan to enroll in a<br />

vocational/technical/trade program at a community or technical school. Applications are<br />

available in the Career Center. Application Deadline <strong>March</strong> 15, 2013<br />

KOHL’S ‘KIDS WHO CARE’ SCHOLARSHIP: This award recognizes and rewards student<br />

volunteers’ ages 6 - 18 who help make their communities a better place. Volunteer efforts should<br />

have made a positive impact on others and occurred in the last 12 months. The activity cannot be<br />

performed solely to benefit a family member. Winners are selected based on the project, the<br />

benefits it provided and the actual outcome. Apply online beginning February 1st at:<br />

www.kohlskids.com . More than 190 regional winners will be awarded $1,000 scholarships. Ten<br />

national winners will receive $10,000 awards and Kohl’s will donate $1,000 to a nonprofit<br />

National Co-op <strong>Scholarship</strong> Program: Available to students who are applying to one of the<br />

following colleges: Drexel university, Johnson & Wales university, Kettering University,<br />

Rochester Institute of Technology, University of Cincinnati, University of Toledo, or Wentworth<br />

Institute of Technology. Students must also be interested in participating in the colleges<br />

Paul Wineman <strong>Scholarship</strong>: Applicants must be a male student who is planning on attending<br />

the University of Washington in the fall. Applications are available in the Career Center.<br />

Puget Sound Engineering & Science <strong>Scholarship</strong>: Applicants must be accepted in a full time<br />

program of study towards a bachelor’s degree in engineering, science or related fields.<br />

QUESTBRIDGE COLLEGE PREP SCHOLARSHIP: This program helps outstanding lowincome<br />

students make the most of the advantages they possess in the admissions process for<br />

selective colleges. High school juniors with an annual household income of less than $60,000<br />

and a strong academic record are encouraged to apply. Many past award recipients have also<br />

been part of the first generation in their family to attend college. Apply beginning February 15th<br />

Red Canoe Credit Union: Red Canoe Credit Union will award a total of 14 scholarships to<br />

students who have an account with the Red Canoe Credit Union and have a GPA of 3.0 or<br />

SEA MAR COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER SCHOLARSHIP: One hundred $1,000<br />

scholarships to low-income high school seniors from Washington seasonal or migrant farm<br />

worker families. A transcript and a short personal statement are required. Applications are<br />

Seattle Swedish Community <strong>Scholarship</strong>: Applicants must be a senior and attend high school<br />

in King County, and reside in King County Washington. Applications are available in the Career<br />

Center. Application Deadline <strong>March</strong> 31 st .<br />

Sound Credit Union: Applicant must be a prime member of Sound Credit Union and maintain<br />

a 3.0 GPA. Applications can be downloaded at www.soundcu.com/about. Applicants can also<br />

complete online application at TheWashBoard.org Application Deadline April 5 th .<br />

STUDENT-VIEW SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: This program offers scholarships to seniors<br />

who plan to attend a four-year college, community college or career school. To apply, log on to<br />

www.student-view.com and complete a survey application about colleges in your area. No<br />

minimum test scores, essay, GPA, etc. are required. <strong>Scholarship</strong> amounts include: one $4,000<br />

award, two $1,000 awards and nine $500 awards. The scholarships will be awarded via a random<br />

drawing of all completed applications. Deadline: April 22, 2013<br />

2013 STUDENT PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR AWARD: The Professional<br />

Photographers of Washington will award a $2,000 scholarship to further the recipient’s study in<br />

photographic arts. The contest is open to all high school seniors in Washington State, graduating<br />

in the year 2013. Applicants will be chosen based upon photographic and scholastic<br />

achievements and the student’s desire to continue their studies in the photographic arts.<br />

2013 HOLOCAUST REMEMBERANCE PROJECT SCHOLARSHIPS: This is an essay<br />

scholarship contest open to students in the 9th though 12th grade. Students responding to this<br />

year’s writing contest should study the Holocaust and then write an essay of no more than 1,200<br />

words responding to this year’s prompt. (a) analyze why it is vital that the remembrance, history<br />

and lessons of the Holocaust be passed on to a new generation; and (b) suggest what young<br />

people can do to combat and prevent prejudice, discrimination and violence in our world today.<br />

The scholarships vary in amount from $2,500 to $5,000 for the first place winners and $500 to<br />

University of Washington Nikkei Alumni Association: Open to all students of Japanese<br />

WASHINGTON STATE ASSOCIATION FOR JUSTICE (WSAJ) AMERICAN JUSTICE<br />

ESSAY SCHOLARSHIP CONTEST: This contest is available to high school seniors who are<br />

residents of Washington State. Students don’t need to attend a Washington college, but must<br />

eventually attend college to receive the scholarship. WSAJ will award up to three scholarships<br />

ranging from $1,000 to $3,000 each. The essay prompt and specific contest guidelines are<br />

WASHINGTON STATE ASSOCIATION FOR JUSTICE (WSAJ) PRESIDENTS’<br />
