Peoria History Through Photography
March 5th
Robert Killion, Curator at the Peoria Historical Society, will present a program on Peoria
Photographers in the early years and will show Vintage Photographs that are archived
at the Peoria Historical Society and Special Collections at Bradley University. Robert will
also share ‘Historypin’ and other web resources for locating historical photography.
“We’re surrounded by a myriad of relics of the past. However, what makes something worth preserving?
Something can, of course, have intrinsic value. Art can be valuable, because it enlightens us or
brings pleasure. Some items were made by hand with craftsmanship and pride, and meant to last.
Some items are made of valuable materials. Items may be valuable, because they are still useful. Yet,
items that were considered disposable and/or have little to no modern use are still often valuable.
Consider that it is the stories that make artifacts valuable.” - Robert Killion
Bob Killion has a BS/MS in History from Illinois State University and a MA in Museum Studies from the University
of Oklahoma. He has been with the Peoria Historical Society since 2007 and is responsible for a large and varied
collection. It includes two historic Museum houses, the John C. Flanagan House Museum and the Pettengill-Morron
House Museum. Peoria Historical also has an extensive research collection that is on deposit at Bradley University.
Special Collections.
