Session III—International Energy and Ethanol
Overview

If you want to know what’s happening in the U.S. and
international energy market and in the Brazilian/Canadian/
EU/U.S. ethanol complex, be sure to attend this session.
Congress eliminated the U.S. ethanol tariff and the ethanol
tax credit, a devastating drought reduced U.S. corn
production and Brazil will factor these events into its
ethanol/sugar mix from sugarcane production. Natural gas
extraction is booming in the United States, global shale
gas and shale oil may be viable energy sources, and
energy demands are rising, while Middle East crude oil
supplies are threatened. This panel of experts will discuss
the implications of these events and more to aid you in
managing costs associated with energy inputs.

Opportunities for Sugar Trade Liberalization

Billed as “an ambitious, next-generation, 21st century
trade agreement,” the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP)
agreement is the most significant multilateral trade initiative
since NAFTA and will likely serve as a template for future
trade agreements. The current negotiations include several
important players in global sweetener markets, including
Australia, Canada, Mexico, and the United States. Our
panelists will discuss the status of the negotiations and the
potential impact of this agreement on markets and future
trade policy.

you also need to know to do a good job as a sweetener
buyer? Is it having a sense of the sweetener landscape
and your place in it? Is it how to balance your own time
resources against the varying complexity of different
strategies? Is it knowing what your company policies and

finding a strategy that accommodates both? Old hands as
well as new sugar buyers may learn a thing or two in this

experience in advising both buyers and sellers on
