The publishers of The Valparaiso City Directory for 1893
have spared no labor or expense in securing full data for a complete,
correct and reliable reference directory. Every residence,
manufacturing and business house inside the corporation
limits
has been carefully canvassed by expert census takers, and no
effort has been withheld to secure the name of every adult to
classify in its proper place in
our pages.
The population of Valparaiso has evidently increased very
much since the official census was taken, or the city did not
receive due credit at that time for what inhabitants it really
had. We have the names in our columns which, according to
expert figures, give Valparaiso a population of 6,660. This
figure is quite conservative and does not include the students at
the Normal School. Adding then the average attendance at
that institution of 1,900, we have a total population of 8,560.
All information of
insertion in this work.
a valuable character has been sought for
Every society, church and other organization,
has been solicited for information as to the particulars
of their location, officers, time and place of meeting, etc., and
as far as the publishers know the lists are complete.
We wish to thank the city officials, the press, and the many
citizens of Valparaiso, who have aided us in our efforts, and
trust that the result of our labors will be appreciated.
Very respectfully, -r^J- .
