<strong>INDUSTRIAL</strong> <strong>TRAINING</strong> <strong>RULES</strong> <strong>AND</strong> <strong>REGULATIONS</strong><br />

<strong>Students</strong> undergoing Industrial Training must obey the rules and regulations as well as the Industrial<br />

Training Rules and Regulations of the University, a copy of which will be given to the students prior<br />

to the commencement of their training.<br />

<strong>Students</strong> who voluntarily terminate or are terminated by the training establishment will not be<br />

permitted to take the Professional Conduct/Professional Situation Report segment of the Final<br />

Examination where applicable. In the event of the above, students may have the option to sit for the<br />

said examination at an appropriate time (to be determined by the University) after the completion of<br />

the prescribed Industrial Training Programme at an establishment approved by the University.<br />

1. The Industrial Training period will equip the student with the values and characteristics of the<br />

service industry and enable them to develop into successful professionals. Therefore the training<br />

is of utmost importance and must be taken seriously. A student shall devote his whole time,<br />

attention, energies and abilities to the programme.<br />

2. <strong>Students</strong> must learn to be independent and possess initiatives to fully benefit from the<br />

attachment. <strong>Students</strong> must learn to be independent and possess initiatives to fully benefit from<br />

the attachment. <strong>Students</strong> must co-operate and work as a team with the organisation’s staff and<br />

colleagues.<br />

3. <strong>Students</strong> must uphold the image of the University and the organisation in which he is training.<br />

<strong>Students</strong> must always be well groomed with clean uniforms (where applicable).<br />

4. A student shall promptly and faithfully obey the Supervisor (hereinafter referred as the<br />

“Department Head”) with regards to the programme. He/she must be disciplined and courteous<br />

at all times to staff of the organisation.<br />

5. <strong>Students</strong> must report to work on time. Check duty rosters and ask for clarification when in doubt.<br />

A student shall attend at all times during the usual business or working hours except in the case<br />

of incapacity through illness, accident or other unavoidable cause in which case he shall notify<br />

his Department Head and the Human Resources Department and must furnish them with such<br />

evidence (e.g. medical certificate). Copies of such evidence are to be submitted to the Career<br />

Services Centre upon completion of training.<br />

6. <strong>Students</strong> are not allowed to remove any of the organisation’s property without prior written<br />

consent from the appropriate authorities.<br />

7. A student shall not during and/or after this programme in any way divulge or make known any<br />

information relating to those providing him/her the training or any of their business or customers<br />

or any other information which may come to his/her knowledge in the course of his/her training.<br />

8. The student shall not wilfully damage or wrongly deal with any property belonging to the<br />

organization providing the training.<br />

9. In case the University at any time is called upon to pay and actually pays for any liability which<br />

the student incurs during this programme then the School must be indemnified by the student for<br />

every payment made.<br />

10. The student may only be allowed to change his practical training venue with the written<br />

permission of the Dean/Deputy Dean, who shall notify the Manager, Career Services Centre, of<br />

the change. However, there will be an administration fee of RM100.00 imposed for each change.<br />

11. A student must comply with the Training Schedule mutually agreed upon by the University and<br />

the organisation. The student is not allowed to make any changes unless done in consultation<br />

with the University and the organisation.<br />

12. In the event that the trainee needs to take medical leave, the trainee is required to inform the<br />

Human Resources Department before 9.00am on the day that the trainee is absent. Only an<br />

absence with a valid medical certificate is considered as medical leave. Absence without proper<br />

medical certificate will be addressed by the regulation stated in item (15).<br />

13. Missed Training Days: In the event where the trainee misses more than an accumulated 1 week<br />

of their required training days, the trainee will be required to re-do the full industrial training with<br />

the subsequent batch of students. Should the trainee miss less than 1 week of his/her Industrial<br />

Training, he/she is required to make-up the following term by doing part-time work during the<br />

free time according to the number of days that they have missed.<br />

14. Should the trainee fail to attend the Industrial Training within 48 hours without any notice to the<br />

employer, the employer will have the right to release the trainee without giving any notice to the<br />

trainee.<br />

15. If a student commits any breach of this agreement or neglects his duties under it or is guilty of<br />

misconduct in the course of his/her training, then he/she shall be liable to be brought before the<br />

Dean/Deputy Dean for disciplinary action.<br />

16. During the term of Industrial Training, the trainee will be covered by Taylor’s University current<br />

insurance policy. During the continuance of the Industrial Training, the trainee shall devote the<br />

whole of his/her time and attention in performing and discharging his/her duties and shall not<br />

engage or indulge in any other business or undertake any part time work for any other employer.<br />

17. Confidentiality<br />

The trainees are aware that in the course of their employment by their organisations , they will<br />

have access to and be entrusted with information in respect of the business of the organisation<br />

related directly or indirectly to the organisation and all its dealings, transactions and affairs all of<br />

which information is or may be confidential. The trainee shall not during or after the period of<br />

his/her employment, disclose or divulge to any person or otherwise make use of private and<br />

confidential information. The trainee shall use his/her best ability to prevent the disclosure of any<br />

information about his/her employers, directors, shareholders and associates or any trade secrets<br />

or confidential information concerning the organisation or any clients, suppliers, agents,<br />

distributors or customers.<br />

18. All rules and regulations which apply to a student while he/she is at University will also apply<br />

during the training.<br />

19. Termination of Industrial Training<br />

During this period of assignment with employers, the trainee will be strictly bound by the Rules<br />

and Regulation of the employers and the employers will not hesitate to terminate any trainee<br />

who infringes such regulations. Any trainee who misses or stops his/her training period<br />

prematurely for whatever reasons or who is terminated by the employers for poor attendance or<br />

violation of the employer’s regulations will not be allowed to sit for the Professional Conduct<br />

segment of the final examination where applicable. He/she shall not receive his/her Diploma until<br />

he/she completes another industrial training period and the subsequent examination segment in<br />

the following year where applicable.<br />

20. The University reserves the right to terminate any student who does not comply with the rules<br />

and regulations stated by the University and the organisation involved.<br />
