Editor’s Note
From the running start to finish of the most anticipated race in Bandar Putra, the Putra Charity Run
2013 was a spectacular success for both participants, public, sponsors and organizer involved.
Thanks to the overwhelming support of runners who hailed from across Malaysia and even
Singapore, our charity beneficiary – the Kiwanis Down Syndrome Foundation (Kulai Centre)
received funds that will help run their operations for the year. The event also raised awareness and
gave further insight to their services.
A forerunner in community service, Bandar Putra was also host venue for several “community
favourite” events recently, namely the Strongman Challenge and Mr IOI held at the community’s
favourite IOI Mall. These events gathered the strongest and most muscular men in Malaysia to
champion for the victorious crown of Mr Strongman and Mr IOI. The crowds went wild with
anticipation and cheers for the champions.
Being an eco-conscious organisation, IOI Mall launched i-Cubic, a recycling project held in
conjunction with World Environment Day, between Faculty of Art & Design from Southern
University College and residents of Kulai and Senai. Activities were also held to inform residents
on methods of preventing dengue fever.
High on the agenda were the property launches that received good support from the public, in
particular the launch of D’Summit Residences that raises the benchmark of sky high luxury living
in Iskandar Malaysia. Read on and discover more exciting events Bandar Putra has in store for the
coming months.

STRONGMAN CHALLENGE
2013
For the 7 th consecutive year, strong muscular guys gathered at IOI Mall Bandar Putra for the “IOI Mall
Strongman Challenge” competition. The Qualifying Round was held on 14 th April 2013 while the Final
Round was held two weeks later on 28 th April 2013.
On 5 th June 2013, IOI Mall Bandar Putra organised i-Cubic Recycling
Project, an amazing collaboration project between the Faculty of Art
& Design of Southern University College and residents of Kulai and
Senai.
Using the recycled items, they were required to design and decorate
the new i-Cubic retail outlet. Scores and marks were given based on
design and decoration with Low Carbon Green and all materials
must come from the 12 recyclable items wish list.
Held in conjunction with World Environment Day, this project aimed
to create environmental awareness amongst the public. It also
targeted to invite them to take part and explore the ‘Go Green’
concept by collecting recyclable items from their homes, and
dropping them at recycling bins at the IOI Mall basement car park.
Launched on 1 st June 2013, students of Southern University College
were given one month’s time to complete their design using 12 types
of recyclable materials:

Located on the first floor of IOI Mall, i-Cubic was specially designed
for youngsters. It offers a contemporary and vibrant interior design
with a comfortable ambience to allow patrons to discover great
shopping times with their friends and families.
The retail outlets are targeted for launching soon. Be there to witness

This year’s event attracted 30 participants from various locations in
Johor and Singapore. Up to 10 strongmen made it to the finals and
they had to complete 7 tasks. Each task has to be completed within
90 seconds in order to win the “IOI Mall Strongman Challenge”.

In conjunction with Sports Month, IOI Mall Bandar Putra Kulai
organised its signature event, Mr. IOI/JOHOR 2013 on 26 th May
2013. Jointly organised by IOI Mall Bandar Putra Kulai and Majlis
Sukan Negeri Johor, Persatuan Bina Badan dan Angkat Berat
Johor, this event aims to select the perfect man to represent Johor
in the forthcoming Mr. Malaysia Competition.
This year, we recorded 62 participants who represent gym
associations around Johor, including Burly Gym, Leisure Sport Gym,
Power Extreme, Hyper Gym, Bindu Gym, Excell Gym, Tough Gym,
Iron Brother Gym, Mr. Big Gym, Scientex Gym, San Suria Gym,
Olympia Gym, Body Building Gym, Rakyat Tampoi, First Impact
Gym, GP Gym, Ultra Gym and Universal Fitness.

PUTRA CHARITY RUN
The 9 th Putra Charity Run was held successfully on 7 th July 2013. Held
in Bandar Putra, Kulaijaya, the run was flagged off by former
Steeplechase Champion of Malaysia, Dato' Hj. Noorul Ariffin Bin
Abdul Majeed, who is also the chairman of the Johor Athletic
Association with overwhelming support from the residents, with
around 3,500 people participating in this event.
All funds collected from entry fees and official partners went to the
Kiwanis Down’s Syndrome Foundation, Kulai Centre, a non-profit
organisation that operates an early intervention programme for
children with Down’s Syndrome. Mr. Teng Ah Ching, Charter
President of Kiwanis Club Kulai received the cheque worth
RM68,000 from Senior General Manager of IOI Properties Berhad
(Johor Bahru), Mr. Simon Heng Kwong Hock. Witnessed by OCPD
Superintendent Zulkefli Hj Yahya of the Kulaijaya Police Department,
the ceremony was held after the medals presentation to the winners.
The run aimed at fostering community spirit among the residents as
well as to raise funds for local charity organisations. Through this
meaningful event, IOI reach out to Bandar Putra residents, uniting
them to come together and lend support in making a success of
communal activities.
LARIAN AMAL PUTRA
Pada 7 Julai 2013 yang lepas, acara tahunan Larian Amal Putra
yang ke-9 telah berjalan dengan lancar. Larian amal yang diadakan
di sekitar kawasan Bandar Putra ini telah dirasmikan oleh tetamu
khas, Dato' Hj Noorul Ariffin Bin Abdul Majeed, Presiden Persatuan
Olahraga Johor. Acara amal ini mendapat sambutan hangat dan
dianggarkan lebih 3,500 orang telah mengambil bahagian.
Tahun ini, sebanyak RM68,000 dana kutipan berjaya dikumpul dari
yuran penyertaan serta duit sumbangan dari penaja-penaja
korporat. Kutipan dana tersebut disalurkan kepada Yayasan
Sindrom Down yang telah menubuhkan Pusat Pembelajaran Awal
Kanak-kanak Sindrom Down di Kulaijaya.
Encik Teng Ah Ching, selaku Presiden Piagam Kelab Kiwanis
Kulaijaya menerima cek berjumlah RM68,000 tersebut daripada
Pengurus Besar Kanan IOI Properties Berhad, Encik Simon Heng.
Turut serta dalam upacara pernyampaian cek adalah Ketua Polis
Daerah Kulaijaya, Supt. Zulkefly Bin Hj Yahya dan Pemangku
Pengurus Besar IOI Properties Berhad, Encik Lou Fu Leong.
Tujuan Larian Amal Putra diadakan bagi mengumpul dana untuk
pusat kebajikan berdaftar yang berpusat di Kulaijaya. Selain itu,
mengajak masyarakat Kulaijaya untuk turut serta dalam aktiviti
sukan disamping aktiviti kemasyarakatan.

30 th June 2013 – 85 Residents of Taman Kempas Utama
gathered together to select the Members of their first ever
Resident Committee. The selected Committee Members will
spearhead the formation of the Taman Kempas Utama Resident
Association.
Headed by Senior Project Manager, En. Mohd Izuddin, the
meetings was organized by the staff of IOI Properties Kempas
Utama for the purpose of getting feedback on residents’
concerns and assist them in the formation of a Resident
Association. This objectives of this Association is to enable
members to work together to keep their neighbourhood safe,
clean and comfortable.

TIPS to prevent the Aedes
mosquito from breeding:
Langkah-langkah Pencegahan
Pembiakan Nyamuk Aedes:
• Ensure all pails, containers and plant pot plates are stored under shelter and
there is no stagnant water when not in use
Pastikan semua tempayan baldi, pasu bunga tidak bertakung dengan air
• Ensure all containers that have water in them are covered
Tutup semua bekas menyimpan air dengan rapat
• Change water inside the flower vases regularly
Pastikan air dalam pasu-pasu bunga ditukar dengan kerap
• Ensure no trays or containers are placed beneath air-conditioning units
Jangan letak dulang atau bekas di bawah Alat Penghawa Dingin
• Ensure fallen leaves and branches are cleared from roof gutters and drains and
disposed of regularly

Jaga dan lindungi diri anda serta orang yang tersayang dari dijangkiti demam denggi
Masyarakat sekeliling haruslah peka akan kewujudan penyakit atau
virus yang dikenali sebagai Demam Denggi, sejenis penyakit
bawaan nyamuk Aedes betina. Penyakit ini hanya dapat dikesani
selepas 3 hingga 14 hari selepas virus tersebut terpendam dalam
badan manusia.
Namun begitu terdapat pelbagai tanda awal untuk mengenalpasti
seseorang itu berkemungkinan dijangkiti virus denggi, antaranya
seperti demam secara mengejut, ruam dan gatal-ratal, cirit-birit,
merasa loya, sakit kepala, sakit perut, sakit otot dan sendi serta
mengalami sakit pinggang yang teruk.
Pada hari Ahad yang lepas, bersamaan 7 Julai 2013, Gotong
Royong Perdana telah dianjurkan oleh KRT Zon Jalan Tekukur,
Bandar Putra, Kulaijaya, Johor. Gotong Royong Perdana tersebut
diadakan bertujuan untuk membersihkan kawasan kediaman
sekaligus menghindari pembiakan nyamuk Aedes yang menjadi
pembawa utama kuman virus denggi.
Program tersebut disertai seramai 150 orang termasuk pegawai dari
Jabatan Kesihatan Daerah Kulaijaya dan pegawai dari Majlis
Perbandaran Kulaijaya. Program Gotong Royong Perdana bermula
dari jam 8 pagi dan berakhir pada jam 12 tengah hari.
Pelbagai aktiviti yang dijalankan sepanjang sesi gotong-royong,
termasuk membersihkan kawasan sekitar Jalan Tekukur dan
pameran pencegahan demam denggi dan pembiakan nyamuk
Aedes oleh wakil dari Pejabat Kesihatan Daerah Kulaijaya.
Program ini sekaligus dapat memupuk sikap kerjasama di kalangan
penduduk Jalan Tekukur dan menjadi contoh kepada masyarakat
luar tentang pentingnya kebersihan serta pencegahan terhadap
penyakit demam denggi yang berpunca daripada nyamuk Aedes.
Program tersebut tamat pada jam 12 tengah hari dan majlis penutup
berakhir dengan ucapan khas oleh wakil YB Adun Bukit Permai,
Encik Abdul Halim Bin Abdul Karim.
On 7 th July 2013, the Resident Association of Jalan Tekukur, Bandar
Putra organised a communal activity that was held as early as 8am.
Named “Gotong Royong Perdana”, the activity was attended by
more than 150 participants comprising residents, government
officers from the Health Department and the local council, Majlis
Perbandaran Kulaijaya. IOI Properties Berhad was honoured to
sponsor this meaningful communal activity in line with its long-term
corporate social responsibility (CSR).
The programme aims to cultivate the spirit of teamwork among the
residents to ensure that the township is free from the Aedes
mosquito that has become the main carrier of the dengue virus. The
programme also includes informative activities, such as exhibitions
and public health talks, on how to prevent the spread of dengue
fever.
Ending at 12 noon, the programme was concluded with a speech
from the representative of the Bukit Permai State Assembly, Encik
Abdul Halim Bin Abdul Karim.
