CASE STUDY - Rampton Hospital, Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust Services provided: • Planned and unplanned maintenance of M&E services; • Building fabric; • Building installations; • Grounds maintenance; • Operation and maintenance of sewage and water treatment plants and boiler house. What was the Trust looking for? The Trust wanted to be confident they could achieve annual efficiency savings without compromising quality of service. How did we help? Providing a maintenance service within this environment presented an almost unique challenge, with many of the complexities of an acute hospital combined with the security measures found in a prison. Routine maintenance tasks typically take twice as long and cost up to 30% more than in a normal hospital. We implemented a number of improvements including: • Early warnings for flagging up rising project costs; • Monthly target cost setting; • Pain/gain linked to key performance indicators; • Weekly finance review; • Greater ownership of the Trust’s risk and closer integration of the quality/ risk manager; • A more innovative way of working.
