On behalf of the College of Podiatrists,
the Society and the conference committee,
it is my pleasure to welcome delegates to
Harrogate for the Annual Conference and
Exhibition 2011
The conference is now a firm favourite with both clinicians and
exhibitors alike. The success of the last few years has seen both
attendance from delegates and support from our commercial
colleagues grow to unprecedented levels. This year also I am delighted
to welcome a number of members from overseas who join us to share
in the knowledge and networking this event affords.
The theme this year is ‘Keeping you on Your Feet’ and was not just
intended to be clinically orientated but allowed the committee to help direct
the Special Interest Groups towards thinking about how we personally
and professionally stay up to date and prepared for the times ahead.
We are excited to welcome renowned Consultant in Sports Medicine
Dr Nick Webborn and Mark Loeffler, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon
who will be joining us as part of the opening key note session. Along with
Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson, Paralympic Gold Medal Winner I hope the
conference will really embrace the passion that these people bring.
In response to last years successful Saturday sessions and following
valuable feedback from delegates we have once again put together a
number of concurrents that will help provide training and resourcing
for colleagues around core updates. The focus on practical
demonstrations and hands-on workshops will allow delegates to
embed the theory in to practice. I hope, as with all the sessions during
the three days, that you will gain knowledge, further understanding
and develop a hunger to take your own practice forward.
The social calendar at the conference is one that has, as with the academic
programme, grown from strength to strength. The enthusiasm of
members and the fun had in the evening events was clear to see from the
full conference report earlier this year. I am pleased to announce that we
will be holding the first joint Faculty College of Podiatrists’ Annual Dinner
this year with the Dean’s from each Faculty hosting this event. It will be both
a formal yet entertaining way to celebrate our combined achievements as a
profession. And of course the infamous, not to be missed, conference party
on Friday night with the theme “Hollywood Glamour”.
It is, therefore, with great pleasure I look forward welcoming you in
November to the Harrogate 2011Conference.
