Oakleigh’s Dylan Ruddy joined the Krushers
from St Peter’s in 2008 and is bound to play
many games at the senior level.
Dale Andrew arrived at Richmond Central
from Diamond Creek in 2008 and immediately
impressed at both centre-half forward and
on the ball, taking out the best and fairest
with a string of outstanding performances;
the following season he showed his liking
for the big stage, bagging seven goals in the
elimination final win over South Mornington.
Dancer is blessed with strong hands, fierce
attack on the ball and an infectious enthusiasm
for all things football.
Trent Woodberry also arrived at KB Reserve in
2008, after several seasons in west Gippsland.
His appetite for the one-on-one contest and
hatred of being beaten, allied with a booming
left-foot kick, made him one of the most
respected full backs in the competition. When
asked to shoulder the ruck burden in the
second half of last season he took his game
to another level again, his fine season being
rewarded with a runaway best-and-fairest
win. Having started the season in fine form
again, Woody is one of the first magnets on
the board each week and a cornerstone of the
Club’s drive for future success.
Oakleigh’s Stephen Doherty began his Krusher
career with the U19’s in 2005. He won Best
U19 Team player in 2006. After winning the
2007 senior premiership he has now establish
himself in the seniors.
Collegians’ Richard Hosking came to the
club straight from school in 1998 and played
in Tim Killworth’s all conquering Under 19
premiership side. He soon slotted straight
into the seniors and stuck with the club as
we went through a very difficult period, up
and down the grades. Richard showed great
leadership which belied his youth and rarely
played a bad game. He showed enormous
courage, sometimes too much, and has
overcome some extremely serious injuries to
continue to play. He has been an outstanding
finals player, a premiership player and a State
Rep. He has never asked any favours, been a
great contributors on and off the field, has the
utmost respect of his peers and is a credit to
his family.
TWITTER ERUPTION
The number of those following Saturday
afternoon progress on Twitter has more
than double since R1 last year. If you have a
smartphone – an iPhone or a Blackberry or some
other model – you can follow “@vafacomm”
and see progress from around the grounds. We
are always looking for people to tweet scores
themselves to improve the service, so if you
are already following the service, please help
out. The scores go direct to the website, where
over a thousand people followed the action. If
you don’t know how Twitter works, there are full
instructions under Live Scores at vafa.com.au
NEW MAN IN WHITE
Our intrepid U18 scribe Ben Hodges put in the
hard yards over the summer trying for selection
in his club’s U19 team. Astonishingly (to this
correspondent), he was overlooked for selection.
Rather than be idle, he donned the whites and
the Acme Thunderer and impressed all with his
control and knowledge of the game.
