A year of transformation, growth and success
Greetings from the Petroleum Institute, Abu Dhabi
The theme of this year’s annual report is “A Year of
Transformation, Growth and Success” which highlights the
visible actions the Petroleum Institute has taken to add clarity
to the future direction of the Institute.
In the pages that follow, we provide an overview of the
accomplishments and contributions of the PI during the
Academic Year 2011-2012 which is a testament of the hard
work by the faculty and staff who made progress during this
year possible. On behalf of the PI, I sincerely thank all of them
for their service.
The PI received accreditation for all five undergraduate programs by ABET: the Chemical
Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Petroleum Engineering are all
accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) and the Petroleum Geosciences
is accredited by the Applied Science Accreditation Commission (ASAC).
We are proud of the new student centered approach to teaching Physics. Takreer funding allowed
us to rearrange two classrooms and labs to integrate the hands-on and theoretical aspects of
physics studio approach, to improve teaching and learning in this area.
The PI introduced its new brand to reaffirm our reputation in the region and world. The “Strategic
Planning” exercises helped the PI to stay focused and act decisively. The Institute focused on
becoming a more student centered institution.
As a result of the actions we took, the PI is clearly a better university. The overall progression
rate for undergraduate students at PI is 85.4% as compared to other CAA higher education
institutions; furthermore, the success rate for continuing students (% of credit hours passed) is
91%. With the progress made so far, we will continue to stay focused on the initiatives developed
in Academic Year 2011-2012.
