The Petroleum Institute | Annual Report - Academic Year 2011 - 2012
Duration: February 2012-February 2013
Summary of the project: The goal of the
project is to develop a field-wide, 3D reservoir
model for the impact of various diagenetic
processes on reservoir heterogeneities of
the Jurassic Arab Formation in the Umm
Shaif Field, offshore Abu Dhabi by means of
geostatistical methods.
Project Title: Stylolites, Porosity Controls and
Dense Zones in Lower Cretaceous Reservoirs
of the Sahil Field, Abu Dhabi
Name of Sponsor: ADNOC Upstream
Research Oil-Subcommittee
Team members: Dr. Sadoon Morad
Dr. Ihsan Al-Aasm
Dr. Stephen Ehrenberg (Sultan Qaboos
University)
Amena Al-Harethi (M.Sc. student)
Amount awarded: USD 268,000
Duration: March 2012-March 2013
Summary of the project: This study aims to use
petrographic, geochemical, and fluid inclusion
analyses in order to better understand the
parameters controlling the distribution of
stylolites and their impact on diagenesis and
related reservoir quality evolution pathways. In
order to achieve the study goal, core samples
will be studied from flank and crest of Lower
Cretaceous Thamama limestone from Sahil
Field, onshore Abu Dhabi, UAE.
The structure and Evolution of UAE Foreland
Basins and Northern Oman Mountains
Principal Investigator: Mohammed Ali
Amount awarded: USD23,100
Examination of the Aptian-Albian (Mid
Cretaceous): A Comparative Study of the Nahr
Umr Formation (shallow marine, UAE) and the
Cedar Mountain Formation (Utah, USA)
Principal Investigator: Aisha Al Suwaidi
Team Member: Thomas Steuber
Amount awarded: USD 41,000
