The Petroleum Institute | Annual Report - Academic Year 2011 - 2012 Mission and Strategic Planning Dr. Mohamed Al Shehhi, Director of Strategic Planning The Academic Year 2011-2012 was important in the planning history of the PI because the next strategic plan was developed and reviewed as a part of PI’s transformation framework. The strategic plan is intended to set a tone for the culture and make clear to internal and external communities what is valued; to provide alignment of purpose and function; and to provide a guide to important infrastructure decisions about manpower, funds and space, etc. In developing the next strategic plan the PI is assisted by a team of experts from the University of Maryland whose job was to facilitate, coach and oversee the whole process as impartial consultants. A steering committee was formed to provide oversight and support, to define the main structure, milestones and deliverables, and to ensure progress is made in an effective and timely manner until the finalization of strategic plan. Furthermore, the Committee serves as a forum for the discussion and resolution of cross-boundary matters that arise from the subcommittees’ work.
