The Petroleum Institute | Annual Report - Academic Year 2011 - 2012 Information Technology Department Dr. Gemal Seede, Manager I. Executive Summary This academic year has seen major milestone achievements for the Information Technology department at the PI. These landmark accomplishments include the deployment of new systems, customer service offerings, cost saving projects, and improvements in our internal processes. It would be difficult to list all of the projects, but some of the highlights are: • The launch of our new ERP system based on Oracle E-business Suite • The launch of our new Library Management System called Symphony • The deployment of a re-engineered student application portal and applicant screening system • The expansion of our Trackit helpdesk system to other departments • The expansion of Internet bandwidth to 1 Gigabit per second (20 times more bandwidth) • The launch of 1 Gig research network (ANKABUT) tying UAE universities together • The building of a server Infrastructure (Private Cloud) • The rollout of Digital Signs 130
A year of transformation, growth and success • The adoption of Performance Contracts/ Balanced Score cards • The introduction of major IT organization chart changes including the addition of two departments: Enterprise Systems and Planning & Policies • The enhancement of web mail • The creation and initial meeting of the Computer and Information Technology Committee, which will eventually help provide the department with strategic direction. PI community. Therefore the IT Departments mission is to serve the PI community by: II. Department Mission and Program Goals a. Enhancing and supporting teaching, learning, and research mission b. Providing, securing, and maintaining IT structures and IT related academic and administrative services at the PI c. Managing and controlling IT investment and contributing to savings opportunities and eco-friendly sustainable initiatives d. Developing a responsive governance for the IT department that promotes accountability, discipline, communication and collaboration both within IT and with all functions of the PI community The IT department formalized a Vision statement, a Mission statement, and a set of strategic objectives Vision: Infuse innovative technology services into all aspects of teaching, learning, and research at the Petroleum Institute. Mission: Committed as an enabler to the PI core mission by providing high quality infrastructure, exceptional support and innovation in the delivery of IT services to the 131
