In doing so, we shall operate and manage our facilities and services in a responsive and cost effective manner; strive to exceed our customers’ expectations; and pursue a culture of continuous improvement in all aspects of our business. III. Highlights for Academic Year 2011 – 12 Current Accomplishments • Plans for new dormitory blocks have been drawn. • The PI Research Centre is ready. • The Asab Examination Hall will have seating for 280 examination candidates • The Student Centre “mess hall” has been upgraded in order to create a more student-friendly atmosphere. • The furniture in the Student Centre canteen, Bu Hasa and in Zarkuh cafeteria has been replaced. • CCTV coverage is complete. • Zarkuh & Bu Hasa classrooms floor coverings and blinds are being refurbished. • The carpets throughout the offices in Zarkuh & Bu Hasa will be changed. • The student clubs are now fully equipped. • The new catering services are operational. • The PI’s new brand image has been successfully introduced. • The Independent Learning Centre (ILC) will be expanded in early 2013. • Two Takreer Studio Physics Labs have been installed. • The new cladding for the outer walls of Zarkuh, Bu Hasa and Ruwais is being added. • The admission area/ VIP business centre on the ground floor of Habshan has been completed. • Eight open IT labs for general use by the students are operational. • Funding was secured from 3 ADNOC operating companies (OPCOs) for facilities upgrades: o Takreer has funded 2 innovative Studio Physics labs to enhance teaching and to foster an independent approach among students. o ADMA has sponsored the renovation of the main auditorium at Arzanah, which is now known as the ADMA Auditorium. o ADCO has sponsored the upgrade of the auditorium in Zarkuh , which is now known as the ADCO Auditorium. • Activities that have focused on student retention, such as dormitory, study and recreation area upgrades have all contributed to improving student morale. IV. Current Initiatives Our initiatives include the PI campus Master Plan. The plan will give us a clear road map for the period up to 2030 and it reflects our determination to continue to be a vibrant community focused on research and education. V. Summary Much has been achieved in the last 18 months and great momentum and energy has been generated among the team involved in the provision of services at the PI. With the continued support of the Governing Board, the PI Senior Management and our industrial partners, the facilities team continues its efforts to offer the best support services possible to the PI community. 122
