These responsibilities relate to overall academic planning and support student performance, interpersonal relations, social adjustment, career guidance, and work adjustment. The counseling section’s professional commitment to PI students is to support the unlimited development of students’ potential. Student One Stop Shop (SOS) The Arzanah and Habshan SOS Offices provide most of the administrative services students need, these include: registration, transfer credit evaluation, graduation formalities, student ID, residence visa, meal tickets, insurance, tutoring, student employment and safety gear. Resident Life Resident Life supports the academic mission of the PI by providing a supportive living and learning community. In the past year, the department provided accommodation for 480 undergraduate and 110
A year of transformation, growth and success graduate students in the newly refurbished hostels. Sixteen students from Abu Dhabi enrolled in the established Resident Assistant (RA) Program. RAs play a key role in creating an environment for students that encourages academic, personal and social growth. They help promote social, academic and cultural activities: an RA is a friend, resource, mentor, role model and community leader in their hostel. Not least, RAs develop strong and transferable leadership and interpersonal skills. In 2012 they played a pivotal role in organizing: faculty, and staff to participate in organized, competitive sports regardless of athletic ability. Intramural Sports promotes sportsmanship and social growth through a range of individual and team sports. • Inter-building sports tournaments • Beach BBQ • Fun Day One hundred and sixty female students, faculty and staff took part in competitions which included volleyball, basketball, table tennis and badminton. The male competitions –with over 500 participants- featured soccer, volleyball, basketball, squash, table tennis, tennis, swimming, cricket, badminton and bowling. Athletics Department The Athletics Department provides PI students with the opportunity to participate in a broad based program which enhances their academic, cultural and social growth. We emphasize that the benefits of athletic and physical activities play an important role in the students’ overall personal development. Intramurals The Intramural Sports program was launched in Spring 2012. The goal is to allow students, Among the department’s achievements in 2011-12 are: PI students and staff were placed first in the singles and first and second in the doubles badminton competition that was organized by Sorbonne University in Abu Dhabi. PI visiting student John Broman won the 1500 meters event; Hamed al Hebsi qualified for the 100 meters final and Ibrahim El Hassan qualified for the 400 meters final in the tournament organized by the Higher Education Federation in Dubai. 111
