Friedman came to <strong>the</strong> Hoover in 1977 as senior research<br />

fellow, simultaneously accepting a post as economic<br />

consultant to <strong>the</strong> Federal Reserve Bank <strong>of</strong> San<br />

Francisco. He and his consort, Murray Rothbard,<br />

dominate a closely interlocked network <strong>of</strong> "hard money",<br />

"conservative" groups, which includes <strong>the</strong> Heritage<br />

Foundation, Mont Pelerin Society, Cato Institute, Ludwig<br />

von Mises Institute, and American Enterprise Institute,<br />

which hold banquet meetings, always with no visible<br />

result. Their mentor is <strong>the</strong> late Ludwig von Mises, born in<br />

Austria, and founder <strong>of</strong> "<strong>the</strong> Austrian School <strong>of</strong><br />

Economics", who taught at New York University from<br />

1946 until his death. The Institute is now run by his<br />

widow, Margit Herzfeld, to whom President Reagan said,<br />

at a testimonial dinner for her husband, "You don't know<br />

how <strong>of</strong>ten I consult <strong>the</strong> books <strong>of</strong> your husband before<br />

making a decision." She still doesn't know.<br />

At <strong>the</strong> age <strong>of</strong> 16, Milton Friedman became <strong>the</strong> protege <strong>of</strong><br />

Arthur Burns at Rutgers and Columbia. Their economic<br />

principles stemmed from <strong>the</strong> "Viennese School" founded<br />

by Karl Menger and Eugen von Bauwerk. Merger taught<br />

von Hayek, Eric Voegelin and Fritz Machluys. At that<br />

time. Vienna was dominated by <strong>the</strong> House <strong>of</strong> Rothschild,<br />

which had controlled <strong>the</strong> national debt <strong>of</strong> Austria since<br />

<strong>the</strong> Congress <strong>of</strong> Vienna in 1815. Austria's Tyrol silver<br />

mines were owned by <strong>the</strong> Rothschilds, as were her<br />
