another defector, Fedora, another double agent who had
wormed his way into J. Edgar Hoover's confidence; both
the FBI and the CIA now had a resident authority on
Communist espionage who had been identified as a
double agent. The Nosenko [flap] caused the CIA staff to
split into two camps, pro-Nosenko and anti-Nosenko.
William Colby, director of the CIA, was in the pro-
Nosenko camp, giving rise to rumors that he and James
Angleton were double agents, and that Colby had been
recruited while serving in Vietnam. Angleton was forced
to resign.
