The Rothschilds have had a large position in Vickers for<br />

many years. Chairman is Sir Peter Mat<strong>the</strong>ws, also<br />

director Lloyd's Bank and Sun Alliance. Directors are T.<br />

Neville; Baron Braybrooke; Earl <strong>of</strong> Warwick (<strong>the</strong><br />

Salisburys, one <strong>of</strong> three ruling families in England); Sir<br />

Alastair Frame, chief exec. Rio Tinto Zinc, director <strong>of</strong><br />

Plessey & Co. UK, and <strong>the</strong> Atomic Energy Authority. The<br />

chairman <strong>of</strong> Vickers in 1956 was Edward Knollys, son <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> private secretary to King Edward VII forty years, and<br />

George V for 5 years.<br />

ROTHCHILD INTERESTS IN AMERICA<br />

For more than a century, a widespread belief has been<br />

deliberately fostered in <strong>the</strong> United States that <strong>the</strong><br />

Rothschilds were <strong>of</strong> little significance in <strong>the</strong> American<br />

financial scene. With this cover, <strong>the</strong>y have been able to<br />

manipulate political and financial developments in this<br />

country to <strong>the</strong>ir own advantage. In 1837, <strong>the</strong><br />

Rothschilds let <strong>the</strong>ir American representative, W.L. &<br />

threw <strong>the</strong>ir cash reserves behind a new<strong>com</strong>er,<br />

August Belmont, and <strong>the</strong>ir secret representative,<br />

George Peabody <strong>of</strong> London. Bermingham notes in<br />
