Ano<strong>the</strong>r son <strong>of</strong> J.P. Morgan [Jr.], Junius, was placed in<br />

charge <strong>of</strong> OSS finances. Paul Mellon and his bro<strong>the</strong>r-inlaw,<br />

David Bruce joined OSS -- Bruce was in charge <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> London <strong>of</strong>fice, later was Ambassador to France. OSS<br />

also had operatives from <strong>the</strong> Vanderbilt, Archbold,<br />

DuPont and Ryan families, giving rise to <strong>the</strong> quip that<br />

OSS meant "Oh So Social". James Paul Warburg, son <strong>of</strong><br />

Paul (who had written <strong>the</strong> Federal Reserve Act), was<br />

Donovan's personal assistant in setting up OSS. William<br />

J. Casey, present head <strong>of</strong> CIA, was chief <strong>of</strong> secret<br />

intelligence OSS Europe.<br />

In Feb. 1981, OSS veterans held a gala reunion in New<br />

York. Present were Margaret Thatcher, Prime Minister <strong>of</strong><br />

England; Julia Child; Beverly Woodner, Hollywood<br />

designer; John Shaheen, who had been chief <strong>of</strong> OSS<br />

Special Projects, now a wealthy oil man; Ernest Cuneo,<br />

who had been liaison between OSS and FDR; Arthur<br />

Goldberg, labor lawyer and Zionist leader, later Supreme<br />

Court Justice and U.S. Ambassador to <strong>the</strong> U.N.; Bill<br />

Colby, later chief <strong>of</strong> CIA; and Temple Fielding, <strong>the</strong> travel<br />

authority who began his travel expertise with OSS. One<br />

<strong>of</strong> OSS' most famous agents who didn't show up, was<br />

Ho Chi Minh.<br />

OSS agents became prominent members <strong>of</strong> "<strong>the</strong> new<br />

class" in Washington: Archibald MacLeish became<br />

Librarian <strong>of</strong> Congress; Ralph Bunche became U.S.<br />

Representative to <strong>the</strong> U.N.; S. Dillon Ripley became<br />

head <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Smithsonian.
